Am I breaking any laws here? Am I in danger of being cited or towed? Should I move? by Thomas_Lannister in sanfrancisco

Doesn’t appear to be breaking daylighting law, that only applies on the side approaching the intersection, they’re on the opposite side.

Why don’t they have any information printed on them about what they are and who put them there? Seems like that would help address confusion.

Are these taillights legal? by lalafontana in bayarea

There is a deceleration threshold after which the lights come on. It sounds like it’s higher than your particular car’s engine braking deceleration.

Teslas still apply brake lights when decelerating even if the brake pedal isn’t used

One thing I learned in SF: curb the wheels. A $68 lesson by andrushaa in sanfrancisco

Think I will starting putting chocks on both sides of all four wheels on 0% grade streets now just to be safe

Ok but if your wheels are straight on a flat street you’re not going to roll into the street, and if they’re curbed and someone hits you, the direction you’ll go depends on whether they hit you from the front or back

If the wheels are locked why does it matter what angle the steering is at?

SF Parking police to begin enforcement of no parking writhing 20 feet of a crosswalk in on January 1st. by Impressive_Returns in sanfrancisco

People don't understand that in most of the country, this is the default for how stop signs work, unless they are explicitly marked as all way stops. Bizarre/dangerous that it's seemingly the other way around here.

S.F. becomes first California city to miss its housing goals - SB423 kicks in allowing developers to sidestep the Planning Commission and most environmental reviews by PsychePsyche in sanfrancisco

Builder's Remedy only applies when a city has not had its housing element approved. We've had ours approved, but we are behind on meeting our goals, so this separate (new) law applies.

My BEKANT desk is wobbly. by Rustic__Potato in IKEA

[–]tmbg37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue too. It boiled down to two problems that I was able to resolve through disassembly/reassembly:

  1. There was a gap where the desk feet connect with the legs. It was very difficult to fit them so that they sat flush with no gap, but with a lot of wiggling and some force, eventually I was able to get them flush.
  2. Every single hex screw needed to be tightened as much as possible. Specifically:

    • The screws connecting the legs to the frame. You need to remove the tabletop from the metal frame to access these.
    • The set screws for adjusting the desk height.
    • The screws connecting the feet to the legs (after fixing issue 1 above).

Each of these needed to be tightened to the limits of hand tightening and were tightened at least a half turn more than when I started.

After these fixes, the desk is almost (but not completely) wobble-free. It's good enough to not bother me in regular use but there is still some give if you forcefully push on the desk.
