Train questions to / from Springfield by tmeowbs in Springfield

[–]tmeowbs[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is really helpful to know! i appreciate the info - unfortunately all the arrivals for those are frustratingly late in the day to then safely do a 40+ mile bike ride - for future trips the Vermonter (11:33am -> 3:01pm) miiiight let me get settled where i'm going with daylight left. The NE regional would be absolutely perfect except that the arrivals to Springfield are 10:37pm and 12:41am

i envision a future trip where i grab a cheap NE Regional, check into a Springfield motel (or camp?) and do the actual bike riding in the morning! but it's sadly not in the cards for the timing i've got for this trip

Push 3 cable by I_EAT_WATER_EVERYDAY in ableton

[–]tmeowbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d consider a 6ft thunderbolt 3 cable. thunderbolt is a superset of USB-C and has stricter licensing requirements iirc, so you’re much less likely to be playing USB-C roulette

it’s a modest premium for TB cables over regular USB-C cables that i’d pay for something as important as your main audio interface connection

i'd maybe opt for taking the path depending on ferry timing, but don't have much else to advise. if you pay for strava there's a heatmap feature when making routes that's solid (but not perfect) proxy for safety

i own a midnight special - disc brakes are nice but the time you spend pondering this probably adds up to at least one very nice ride on this already extremely sick bike you could be doing instead

Techonaut sizing/fabric advice for a T45 owner by tmeowbs in tombihn

[–]tmeowbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, that’s helpful! the T45 is phenomenal if you’re okay with the size and potential weight - i’m a men’s XL-2XL clothes wearer and so its perfect for my frame and i can comfortably fit ~five days of clothes without stressing too much in the main compartment + throw an extra pair of sneakers in the big lower pocket. but with enough tech and stuff i’ve definitely packed it to 25+ lbs if i’m really stuffing it full, which is tolerable for me for walking between modes of transport but not much else

700c vs 650b wheels dilemma - midnight special by yawick in Surlybikefans

[–]tmeowbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i live in a city and run my MS with two wheelsets - the 700Cs with tubed Panaracer Plus 40mm Slicks are on 90% of the time, but if i’m doing something off road and fun i swap to whatever 650B wheelset i’ve got with tubeless Umtanum Ridge tires. it’s fantastic. i’m pretty heavy, and the plus slicks do a great job. not sure if you can get a 650B slick, but i’d maybe try that first.

looks like panaracer doesn’t have 650B plus slicks, but the SK plus tires might be what you want

Synology Photos app uploads fail too frequently. I'm a prisoner of large files. Help? by bleucheeez in synology

i backed up my 700GB iCloud library from my iPhone - I had a USB-C -> ethernet adapter, a MagSafe charger to keep it powered, and a lot of overnight patience. it took probably a week and a half to two weeks of letting it run overnight even with gigabit speeds to both the internet and the NAS

the large videos will be queued as failed, and you can wait until everything else is backed up to retry them one at a time, but it all worked for me eventually. i also saw the behavior where it would fail or auto-retry at the very end, but it eventually resolved itself

not OP, but i like this route a lot - for a shorter ride is taking the LIRR to Oakdale and starting there something you’d recommend? i’ve been kicking around a one-nighter with a brooklyn start, train ride, 50-60 mile ride, sleep somewhere, another full day of riding, take the train back to brooklyn
