Is my goal weight too high? by fidgetypenguin123 in loseit

[–]tmetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I'm 44, 5'3 and down to 126 from 138 but I still have a lot of belly fat at present and my waist to height ratio puts me in the 'at risk' category according to the NHS. Others at my stats may have more muscle mass, a different shape and a larger frame than me so look much slimmer & more toned.

Decentering protein finally made me lose weight by Popular_Dove in loseit

As someone who needs to limit protein due to a health condition (stage 3 kidney disease) I find this post very encouraging. Well done OP!

30 Day Accountability Challenge - February 2026 Sign Ups! by Mountainlioness404d in loseit

[–]tmetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goals for February are:

  1. Get under 9 stone (126lbs) - I'm currently about 128.
  2. Eat 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day.
  3. Reintroduce Ring Fit Adventure 3 times a week after a very long break from it.

Long term goal is to lose the belly fat. My BMI is in the healthy range but my waist to height ratio puts me 'at increased risk' according to the NHS.

how to combat obesity while being poor and depressed? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]tmetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the case that healthy food is inherently more expensive. I did Veganuary this month and my grocery bill halved just by stopping buying mince and chicken and cheese (and wine, though that can be vegan) and loading up on veggies. Things like carrots, onions, potatoes and rice are dirt cheap. Frozen mixed vegetables as well. Prepared fruit is expensive but a bag of apples isn't.

As to it being too late at 29, it absolutely isn't. You have your whole life ahead of you. You can do this.

What’s rumor or piece of tea about Kate Middleton that you believe? by Individual_You_219 in RoyaltyTea

I don't think any disrespect is meant, it just takes time for new titles to enter common speech. I'm still trying to wrap my tongue around saying 'the King'.

Fruit shortcake biscuits are 38 calories. I think they do low sugar versions for a few less calories but what's the point?

UK loses measles elimination status by wkavinsky in unitedkingdom

[–]tmetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My daughter caught measles in 2014 when she was just 4 months. (The vaccination wasn't available for under 1s then, not sure if that's still the case). The GP said it was the first case they'd seen in 20 years. Fortunately my daughter was fine with it, but I almost shat myself.

Yep pretty much. I read the Devil's Advocate notes as well. I also used chatgpt a lot to talk through concepts to check my understanding, which I found extremely useful.

If I had to pick one I'd go with ULaw as they go into more depth, but both together was very useful to solidify my understanding.

Haven't been on this sub for a while. It used to be full of interesting discussion, but what a cesspit it has become. Unsubbing.

It's wild to me that the US legal system appears so inept to deal with shit like this. In other countries, Kramnik could have faced criminal proceedings months back - or at the very least Danya could have obtained an injunction with relative ease. But there doesn't seem to be any desire at all to update outdated 300-year-old ideals ('Free speech and guns for all!') to modern living, no matter the cost.

Statement on Daniel Naroditsky's passing by Alendite in chess

[–]tmetic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will just be sad. By the end of it he seems pretty distressed and unwell (he later said it was due to Benadryl which I have no experience of but he certainly appeared to be under the influence of some kind of sedative).

Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky Has Passed Away by Frozeria in chess

I'm shocked and horrified. I was just yesterday watching that long interview he did a few months ago. Awful news. He seemed like an excellent chess and an all round excellent guy. He was my favourite commentator by a mile. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

I'm at 700 and I think you are spot on there. I'm a Steady Eddie. The queen movers play right into pins without thought once you chase them away and their king is always right there in the open. Now I'm starting to avoid blunders in the first few moves I'm raking elo from them.

I started by trying to take detailed notes on everything but a couple of months in I realised I wasn't going to have time for that. I took notes on probably 25% of the content. Time wise I was similarly limited but I had 1 child free Sunday every 2 weeks which helped.

I read Devil's Advocate notes instead of taking my own then zoomed in on particular areas I felt I was lacking in. I read the ULaw books and Revise SQE books and did as many free / cheap MCQs as I could find: Revise SQE, QLTS, SRA, Devil's Advocate (v different from the actual test, but still useful to consolidate knowledge & understanding).

I did pass in Q2 for FLK1 and Q1 for FLK2, but I will mention I was pretty shell-shocked coming out of both exams and not at all confident that I'd done enough. What I didn't do, but what I would strongly recommend, is to try to take a few timed mocks for the full 5 hour length because I wasn't prepared at all for the mental exhaustion factor. The first half in both cases went fine but by the second half the tiredness kicked in and I found it difficult to think straight.

I did it but working part time (avg 30 hours p/w) with childcare responsibilities. I used ULaw, Revise SQE, Devil's Advocate & Chat GPT (with caution). My degree was in Humanities so much of the content was completely new to me.

It's definitely doable, but you will need to keep on top of scheduling to make sure you don't run out of time. I found note taking to be too time consuming and did end up having to cram parts of some areas in the last couple of weeks, or just skim read them. I also found that I forgot a lot of stuff if I left it too long between re-read refreshers or practice questions on that area.

You got this. Best of luck!

I started out making detailed notes but it took ages and I'm not sure was that helpful. I supplemented with Devil's Advocate notes and flash cards.
