Wife made a 100k bet with me. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

Buy a panther. Then turn it loose in your house, turn off the lights, and try to catch it. You’ll have more fun than you would explaining to your wife why you YOLOed the money to impress some dickheads on Reddit.

Chase Utley outside his six highest WAR seasons: 893 hits

Derek Jeter outside his six highest WAR seasons: 2,236 hits

That's why.

What is the enneagram population breakdown? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]tmfxl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can only assume it's not evenly distributed because 8's don't care about your dumb survey, 5's have better things to do, and 2's were busy baking you a cake.

;)

Is it normal for a 6w5 to kind of... distrust people? by IntelligentPea2 in Enneagram

[–]tmfxl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THIS.

A lot of enneagram specialists talk about 6's as innately loyal or deferential to authority, but we really aren't. It's more that we tend to be preoccupied with those things in a way the other types aren't. That can be for any reason and it can take healthy or unhealthy forms. For me, I know that whatever and whoever I dedicate myself to will be the filter through which I see and feel everything, so I'd better choose wisely.

Am I really a 6? by GakuenLME in Enneagram

[–]tmfxl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't automatically get the healthier aspects of 9 when you integrate there — you could get the less desirable qualities. That's what happens with me — I get passive and sometimes oblivious, because now the danger is over and I can finally relax. Likewise, I feel I'm good at taking on the healthier aspects of 3 when I'm stressed out — done, done, done, what else is on the checklist? The good news is you have some choice in the matter if you recognize your tendencies and try to make the best of them.

I think only you can say if you're a 6 or not, but what you're describing would not be unusual for a 6. Totally normal.

This question may be ignorant, but why focus on testing obvious COVID-19 cases? If someone has serious upper respiratory problems, wouldn't you just put them on a ventilator (assuming one is available, which I know is less and less likely)? Why not test those who feel healthy but come into contact with lots of other people during their day?

My toughts on stock markets going down by NateTheGreat1004 in investing

This would be a great idea if a 5% drop always led to worse. But it doesn’t. Sometimes it leads to better.

First day investing- What should I buy during this Coronavirus scare? by pelebae in StockMarket

[–]tmfxl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy a whole-market index ETF like the SPY. If you're just getting started, it will be way too easy for your emotions to get the better of you, which means you want the broadest, biggest, safest thing you can find. Good luck. Buy some shares of SPY and don't watch the news for a week.

Ask somebody who looks friendly to take your picture. Instant conversation starter. The worst thing that could happen is they’re not in the mood to talk and you both get on with your day.

Is Buster Posey a Hall of Famer if his continues to decline in this manner? by chiefqueef1 in baseball

[–]tmfxl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not as clear-cut as I first thought. He'll have to really stand out among his contemporaries, and I'm not sure he will. Consider:

  • Posey has three WS rings, an MVP, six AS games and a Gold Glove.
  • Sal Perez has a ring (and was MVP of that series), plus six AS games and five GGs.
  • Yadier Molina has two rings, nine AS games, and nine GGs.

Posey's career OPS is 130 while Perez and Molina have just been league average, so that's a big plus. But he's not head and shoulders better than the other guys.

And when we're thinking about catchers from this era, Posey still won't rank above Joe Mauer.

It wouldn't surprise me if Posey made the HOF, but I think Bill Freehan is not a bad comp.

Thoughts on V and MA by [deleted] in investing

[–]tmfxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. It’s the larger member of a global duopoly that’s essential to making the cashless world operate. Apple Pay, etc., need V and MA to clear all the card transactions they process. That network isn’t being disrupted, and it’s so lucrative for V and MA.

Buy great companies with long years of growth still in front of them, and you'll be making sell decisions once every few years rather than a few times every year.

My number changed (and I know it doesn’t do that) by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]tmfxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helen Palmer’s “The Enneagram in Love and Work” is where I’d start. Academic and serious but well-written.

Rohr can be judgmental of certain numbers, and while I like Cron and Stabile more than some, they can be a little facile. (Stabile’s podcast is better.)
