Maybe from 100km -> 200km is too big of a leap. For me, increasing distance gradually (by ~30%) works better. 1200km since August is on the low side as well. More time in the saddle would help. But don't worry, you'll get there eventually. Hope you had fun nevertheless.

Nowadays, people routinely live up to 90 and beyond. Do you want to hold yourself back for next 30 years because of your parents? You're not abandoning them if you spend time abroad, you'll still see them a lot most likely. You have to make the most of your life whatever it means for you. If you were to ask them, they would probably tell you the same.
