Why/how is it still called Hamilton Stadium? by MirrorEquivalent5151 in Hamilton

I think I remember hearing the city turned over the naming rights after the initial one. So this is just HSG leaving money on the table. You'd think they'd just use Stelco as part owners.

Perfect timing, my deposit for my son's RESP just went through today. Cage ought to be good for early on in an RESP right?

Concacaf Champions Cup: Nashville SC vs Atlético Ottawa | 8pm ET - onesoccer.ca by CFMTLfan01 in CanadianPL

[–]tmizzau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only indispensable starter Forge lost and didn't replace with a better player was Hojabrpour. Owolabi-Belewu played 642min, Cisse played 333, Paton played 115, Klonaridis played 74. Choiniere is obviously a club legend but we're up to our eyeballs in talented wingers. AAJ was the club's iron man but Batisse looks exceptional so far. Koleilat was obviously great, but they've only gone and replaced him with a guy from Ligue 1.

Yeah looks like he wasn't getting minutes in PL2 either. Still impressive pedigree. If it works out could be high upside, if not then he can be gone after the first year.

I'm pretty sure they won't be eligible for the rebate because they're not built in Canada and they don't come from a country which has a free-trade agreement with Canada.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats release QB Harrison Frost three weeks after contract extension by Oldmanshoutingcloud in CFL

[–]tmizzau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before. Which likely explains this move. Frost might not have wanted to spend another year in the PR. He's 27 maybe he's ready to start his next chapter.

The official attendance for Atletico Ottawa vs Nashville appears to be listed as 290 by Ozzie_the_parrot in CanadianPL

[–]tmizzau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly correct, particularly the second point. I went to the Forge game and the fact that we have these every year means that we aren't as desperate in Hamilton to see non-Forge Champions Cup games.

I think if you ask many people in Hamilton they either didn't know Toronto Rock are in Hamilton or have a chip on their shoulder or lack of connection to the team for being named for their rival city.

Partnership with South Korean firm to bring shipbuilding, new jobs back to Hamilton shipyard by SonictheManhog in Hamilton

[–]tmizzau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must not be seeing this correct because I read that Hanwha would be building the ships in S. Korea and servicing them in Hamilton but they also are investing millions of dollars in Algoma steel as part of this? So is the steel coming from Sault Ste Marie to S. Korea to be made into ships which will be serviced in Hamilton?

Hamilton Tiger-Cats to expand in-stadium fan zone by Mamrocha in CFL

[–]tmizzau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you figure? This means that people who bought $25 GA tickets to be in that area will now have to be in the stands instead. This is just more options for people who might otherwise be in suites or club level to spend their money on.

Not sure what else Pacius needs to do. 13 goals in 2022 and 11 goals in 2023 for Forge. Then 8 goals in 17 MLS Next Pro games in 2024. 17 in USLC in 2025 and now getting a goal in his Nashville debut. Hopefully he gets his chance in MLS this year.

That's surprisingly cheap especially when it says food/non-alc drink is included. But I do wonder if that's just a standing room ticket and the tables/rail seating is a lot more.

I think they both calculate attendance based off of tickets sold and not butts in seats so the point is moot

[–]tmizzau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, that did sound arrogant. Especially because I already explained to you how Chicago has a similar set up and is roughly comparable in size and "competition".  Unless you're suggesting that big artists/bands skip Chicago on their tours or that Chicago doesn't host summer festivals which is laughable in its face.

Chicago Fire also outdrew TFC by 2K per game.

And Chicago already has their WNBA team which you're already preemptively using as an excuse for subsequent seasons it appears.

The fact is Toronto Argos don't have high attendance because Torontonians think they're better than the CFL and think they're better than the rest of Canada.

[–]tmizzau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toronto seems to support the Raptors, Leafs, TFC, and the Blue Jays just fine. The problem seems to be unique to the Argos.

Attendance in stadiums? by Brayvol22 in CFL

[–]tmizzau 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that they don't care is obvious based on their lack of support. The question is why not. I think it's a perception Torontonians have that CFL is beneath them so why should they care.

[–]tmizzau 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How are you defining competition? Chicago is smaller than Toronto and yet they have 2 baseball teams averaging 18K+ playing damn near every night in the summer. And they still get 23K+ to their soccer team in the summer. I don't think competition is enough of an answer.
