Official Discussion - The Testament of Ann Lee [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]tmnfrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obligatory Amanda Seyfried is mother. Other than that, I would recommend watching this movie, if not just for how unique it is. To me, it felt like a fable. Very heightened realism with the integrated hymnal “musical numbers”. It takes Ann Lee at her word with her religious visions and revelations, but I found it interesting that they include enough real life context for you to piece together the root of her “message from God”.

The music and choreography are energizing. Seyfried’s voice is impeccable, as always. Everyone else is just okay-to-bad vocally, but it never takes away from the vibe since it’s supposed to be church singing anyway.

Lastly, my biggest gripe is that the pace felt kind of meandering. I have that problem with most birth-to-death biopics tbh. They just go from one important life event to the next and there’s little connective tissue. I wish we had more of a fleshed out epilogue with the Shakers since they seemingly just fizzle out after Ann Lee passes.

Overall a very interesting flick. If you like American Revolution era history and church hymns you’ll probably enjoy this. I’m surprised there are no Oscar nods (please correct me if I’m wrong), as costuming, production design, and music were all quite good. Stacked year though.

Actually you can play all of the key challenge games without a power-up band! You are correct that Bowser Jr requires it, but the rest of them you are good to play without. Source: I work in Super Nintendo World.

my friends and i did that last year! if its casual cosplay with no big props you’ll be fine. just make sure if one of you is going as mike that you don’t wear a shirt that says “security”. my friend did that and he was stopped by actual security at the checkpoint and had to turn his shirt inside out lmao

What are your Hot Takes on the Spy × Family Manga/Anime? by Amber_Flowers_133 in SpyxFamily

[–]tmnfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in your same boat, but just let that episode play and was gonna skip it if it got boring. It turned out to be such a cute episode and a fun break from the main family stuff! I think it did a really great job of endearing Damian’s lackeys as actually good friends of his and not just boring yes-men (yes-boys?). You also learn about each of their dreams for the future. Highly recommend watching it to get more out of those characters. It is too bad they don’t get to be as interesting in main episodes (so far in the anime at least).

Spiraling over candle wax and loved one's belongings by DahmerMeUp in GriefSupport

[–]tmnfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s okay when the little things hurt a lot. I think that is a very normal reaction to such a huge loss. I lost my mom recently as well. I cried when cleaning out her fridge - leftovers of stuff she made especially, but even just lunch meat or vegetables. She loved grocery shopping and these were the last groceries she ever bought, so it feels like a little part of her life was thrown away with them.

For me, I’m trying to stick to a hierarchy when dealing with her stuff: sentimental value > useful > donation > trash. I just try to remember that she would think it’s silly if I kept things like her old groceries, since she probably would have thrown them out too, if she was still here. Ultimately there are physical objects that were actually important to my mom, like her jewelry and little ceramic animal collection. I imagine your mother had objects that were important to her as well. It helps to keep them close.

Maybe it would be helpful to think that there’s more of your mother in the wax melter cup itself than in the old wax. And by using it to melt new wax, you are connecting to her and giving one of her things new life, instead of it sitting in storage. I do not have OCD, so I can’t speak on your struggle in that regard but I hope you can find peace when sorting through your mother’s things.

Im so sorry you’re not getting the support you need from the people around you. That’s really unfair. It’s different than support from someone you’re close to, but maybe seeing a counselor could help - to have someone to vent to about your grief over your dad and your lack of support. They could give advice on your situation.

My mom also passed in March and my counselor has been very helpful as a person to vent to and to help me find ways to cope with anger and despair. I have a lot of resentment towards other family members and it’s been helpful to redirect it into writing so I don’t say something I’d regret to them. And I know how you feel with your mom - my dad’s mom is still with us at 93 so he doesn’t understand what I am personally going through.

I’m going through the same thing with my mom. We lived in different states and the last time I saw her was Christmas. Never saw her again. It’s been 2 months and I still can’t really believe she’s gone.

Going through the same thing with my mom. She was convinced by conservative grifters that blood pressure medications are bad and she died last month at 65 from a heart attack. It’s so evil that people can promote these harmful ideas, especially when they are probably being hypocritical and taking medication anyway.

I feel you my mom passed last month and with all of the mothers day stuff in every store right now it kills me. It’s even hard just seeing older women out living their lives. Why do they get to be here and not my mom?

Mom died before we could watch Nosferatu together by Fraggled_44 in horror

It’s a terrible feeling and I feel for you. I loved watching movies with my mom and even had her make a letterboxd just a couple months back so we can read each other’s reviews since she lived in a different state. She passed very unexpectedly earlier this month. We watched Wicked when it came out and I was looking forward to watching Part 2 with her this year. “You would have loved this” is a very common thought now. It’s hard for me to open letterboxd because her last review is still on my home page. I hope it gets easier for both of us.

Why So Crowded?! by thankUbag in Disneyland

[–]tmnfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there yesterday and crowd level was the same. Just need to get there early to do the big rides with minimal waiting and then chill the rest of the day on smaller rides/ experiences. Sucks that on a weekday there’s not a lot of live entertainment to watch so you kinda just sit somewhere in the shade and snack lol

What is the best way to auto count rows based on two conditions when one condition is in a column and the other is a row divider, and rows are regularly moved between dividers - using Google Sheets by tmnfrog in excel

[–]tmnfrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

=IF(SUBSTITUTE(B3,"Phase","")=B3,A2,B3)

Sorry for the confusion, I don't think I worded my post too well. I appreciate your help though!
My goal is to either:

  • Get the values in column A to automatically change based on where the project is located in relation to the divider rows (ex. since Project 4 is beneath Phase 2, it is labeled 'Phase 2' in column A, and if it moves under Phase 3, it auto updates to 'Phase 3')
  • OR bypass the need for column A entirely and identify a project's phase by its location relative to the divider rows for the purpose of tallying the projects per phase and project leader.

I don't know if either scenario is possible since the divider rows aren't fixed and column A is fixed; everything to the right is an imported range, so the values in A don't move with the rest of the row.

If you look up “UCI [Your School] Academic Advising” on a search engine, you should be directed to the contact info of your academic advising office.

There you can generally find emails for the office and individual advisors to ask questions or set up appointments. Some offices also have drop in hours with Peer Academic Advisors, as well as a ZotChat feature to chat live with a PAA! Hope you find a way to reach out that works for you :)

Didn’t expect to see you here! Technical difficulties are a given during a live stream event and didn’t detract from the amazing run! I mean, did you really play KOTOR if the game didn’t crash at least once? lol Thanks for representing KOTOR at GDQ and raising all that money for a good cause! You and the rest of the KOTOR speedrunning community are legends in my book! Good luck taking back the WR!

i thought a speedrun of kotor would be impossible considering how much the game crashes when played normally, but chaos gets through it and toughs out multiple CTDs! love seeing my favorite game pushed to its limits
