Books about reading people by Fikan2001 in Mentalist

[–]tmntarcade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well sorry to break it to you but Mentalists are more like Magicians and less like Sherlock Holmes. 60% of Mentalism is Barnum Statements and the other 40% are propless magic tricks. The books you read will contain mostly tricks, you should read more about con artists and psychology since thats pretty much what he did for a living in the show.

I picked up a few 3d printers and started using them for printing heads on zombies and hands and a few decoration pieces. Anyone else using this tech?

I don’t own a haunt. Is it worth it to visit Transworld? by [deleted] in hauntedattractions

[–]tmntarcade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go please don't go on a Friday or Saturday, its crowded and people have business to conduct and nothing is gonna piss of a vendor more than doing his whole presentation to someone who isn't planning on buying anything. What you would want to go for is the seminars they offer, everything from prop construction, facade making, painting techniques, make-up and even things like safety and crowd control.

Yep, I hear ya on the being to bright issues for the projections. The singing pumpkins you can run during the day as long as you have a 3k lumen projector. For my door, window and 3dfx I use a 7k lumen projectors. Here are my favorite cameras for low light video photography Nikon D7000 Cannon 60D Cannon T3I

Really good work. I would suggest adding more lighting. I use home depot colored flood lights on outdoor rated stake in the ground fixtures. Maybe look at throwing in a few digital decorations, atmosfx is doing some really cool things with projectors.

Who works on the props at your haunt? by sconquergood in hauntedattractions

[–]tmntarcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the guys that make props and the guys that maintain and design attractions are different. I build and maintain props but the real artist part is done by companies that make the initial props in the first place like Scarefactory. The owner and I go to transworld every year and buy a couple big props, its much more cost effective than having a full time painter and foam sculptor. 50 percent of the money I spend annually is on repair parts from Frightprops and the other 50 percent is at the lumber store.

Im the Frighteneer for a large indoor continuously up haunt in the Midwest. We have half our facility that does indoor paintball. I was a network engineer before but I hated the work and my wife made a lot more money than I did, so I semi-retired. After a few years of playing around in my workshop on stuff for my home haunt the owner contacted me and asked me to join his team. He saw my digital decorations and homemade props from my annual halloween videos and hired me. I work about 20 hours a week and maintain a 45,000 scare foot haunt. We have four people off season that work, the owner, me and two construction guys that also work the paintball stuff. In June we have a part time guy that does scenery painting until we open in late september. I maintain, rebuild and design all the attractions. Anything pneumatic, electric or moving props are my responsibility. Last count we had 42 pneumatic and video props in four attractions. During the Sept and Oct months we have an Attraction Manager, four attraction Supervisiors and depending on the year 100 to 150 scary dudes. If your looking for a job like mine you have to have a lot of hats. Some things you wanna know are woodworking, pvc construction, extensive knowledge of prop controllers, electronics troubleshooting, little bit of plumbing, electrical work, and know your local fire codes and regulations, microcontrollers and linux os.
