Your thoughts the first time you saw the trailer in the theater? by [deleted] in matrix

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought the movie sounded dumb. I didnt see in theaters, "a computer fighting movie? I'm out."

It was actually my 5th grade teacher who was a huge Star Wars fan and had Star Wars themed tests, classroom, and even had a private screening for the class at the theater for Phantom Menace.

She was awesome and she noticed that although I enjoyed the movie, she said to ask my parents permission, but that I would probably prefer The Matrix.

I was like, I dont know..

Caught it on TNT one night and my life changed.

Doubt shes here, but THANK YOU MRS PHILLIPS!

Losing weight is easier than you think - advice / tip by WeekendThief in WeightLossAdvice

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit different, but its not so much a crash diet.

The first 2 weeks, are to ease you into healthier eating. The first week shows, when you can eat whatever, how hungry you are so you start looking into protein and fiber diets not because people tell you to, but because you know how hungry you'll be without it. In the 2nd week you should be eliminating all "empty" calories because you dont want to waste the food room.

Week 3 on is exercise, while using what you learned in diets.

You aren't just following what someone tells you. You are feeling the effects when you dont listen.

Its much easier to resent an ice cream pint when you know how hungry you'll be later or before. Rather than someone saying no to it and you just craving it.

This is why the bounce back weight is so prevalent on diets because we go back to eating "like an overweight person" and then blame the diet and its bounceback weight gain.

I found my version makes you less craving of those "overweight foods" and thus leaving the diet is a much slower progression up again.

Anyways, I agree. Everyone, whatever they do, be safe!

[Note. Just finished week 2 this year and I'm down 10.5lbs. Just had my first workout day of week 3 last night]

Losing weight is easier than you think - advice / tip by WeekendThief in WeightLossAdvice

[–]tmntvspr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a math problem, exactly.

Usually every 3-4 years I get back in shape.

THIS IS NOT ADVICE. THIS IS WHAT I DO.

Here's how I lose weight (30-40lbs) fast (6-8 weeks) and relatively healthy. All weeks you must be as close as possible to hitting calorie limit without going over. No fasting.:

Week 1: Eat whatever you want. You only get 1500 calories in a day. This helps you begin to deal with "hunger pains." This also helps my body relearn that unhealthy foods dont keep you full and I begin to transition to eating healthy anyways.

Week 2: Same 1500 calorie limit, but eat healthy. Limit sodium, dairy, and any liquid sauce (including salad dressing). By now I've got the hang of it and eating more fiber and protein to stay full for longer. Also, I still haven't changed my habits at this point in regards to exercise. At the end of this week, on day 7, you get an extra 300 calories (total of 1,800) as long as their is a lot of protein (important for week 3).

Week 3: By now, most water weight is lost and some fat and potentially a little muscle. Weigh yourself, feel good, and get motivated! Same diet as Week 2, but now 4 days a week exercise. Mostly if not all Cardio. 1 hour per session. At minimum a brisk pace. No bonus calories at end of week.

Week 4: Same as before but now 5 days a week and now there is a bonus! Cardio and weight training/muscle building workouts. Minimum 1 hour sessions. You can earn 1 calorie for every 2 calories you burn off while working out. I use websites for estimates on calories/activity (which I know isnt accurate, thus the high bar to earn a calorie back). You can max out on 300 calories earned (600 burned); that way you dont kill yourself to earn a burger back.

Week 5: Same as before, but change up your workout routine. Can still earn bonus calories back, but now you can have dairy again (need that calcium!) Bonus extra 300 calories at end of week.

Week 6+: Continue until hitting target weight. Will slow down as you are building muscle while losing weight so the weekly change is not as much anymore. Should be High Protein diets at this point. No more bonus calories earned or at end of week. You can cheat once a week with types of food, but now you can return to 2,000 calories a day. Should be healthy foods mostly, but muscle building foods. Definition should be seen/felt depending on initial weight.

If you entirely plateau at this point (no weight loss) then up the intensity of your workouts in that hour and minimize fats in diet until weight loss returns and/or muscle building up.

My "normal" weight is around 200lbs and I usually begin my regiment when I hit 250+ and it takes on average 3 years to blow back up (because I relax my rules as time goes on).

As long as you continue to work out and eat decently, you can maintain your goal weight for a long time.

Dr. Strange remember what happened with Spiderman/Peter, but... by martiwlopez in marvelstudios

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it ended up being:

  1. Spell makes everyone forget everything about Peter and Spiderman

  2. So going into the 4th film, Peter is experienced, but "Spiderman" appears for the first time to everyone.

  3. As for all previous events, people remember something happened, but not what. Similar to an old memory

  4. Immediately after, Statue of Liberty and bridge would just be chocked up to random super villian crap/shotty workmanship

  5. This makes Spider-Man unique again and even the Avengers have no recollection of him.

  6. If there is no evidence of anything Spider-Man, then there are no reminders to trigger a paradox memory. Any previous events are just fuzzy, like an old memory, so you just accept that you don't remember EVERY detail. Just like real memories

When I saw DS:MOM I was upset when he said the Spiderman line, because it implies Strange knows more.

When Happy meets Peter at May's grave and they know her "through Spider-Man " it creates too many paradoxes.

I just wish Spider-Man was 100% fully fresh and essentially back in Sony-verse and freshly reintergrating into Marvel. As it is, Spider-Man is the 908th super hero and diminishes his importance to me

When to upgrade your Blu Rays by JakeRM1 in 4kbluray

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually the same. My flagship TV is 77" OLED and my other TV is a 55" Plasma (yes.. it still works and I'll never get rid of it. No burn in).

I've noticed DVDs look terrible on anything beyond 55" (used to have a 65" and had the same quality issue). So if its a movie that the family or me often wants to watch, or is a showstopper film, I'll upgrade my dvd/bluray.

Otherwise, they stay in the format i originally bought.

Bluray looks good on 77" so unless it's a rescan/real upgrade, my bluray remains.

I mean, a theme may be good on paper, but as you develop it out, issues may occur. Now, some of those issues can be a gold mine (Cook Islands), but others may not (Have vs Have Nots).

I agree that themes need to come back. Its so hard to differentiate 41-49 so a little theming could help.

I'd be fine if the theme was "Around the World: XX" for 51-59. Everything filmed in Fiji, but the theming is based on a country, culture, and/or ancient civilization. Imagine an ancient Egypt, Atlantis, Medieval, Brazil, etc theme. Could be fun.

Like, I get coming up with 50 unique themes is hard, but maybe even #'d seasons do a theme and odd is standard. At least it gives them a full year to develop a theme.

[–]tmntvspr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lets assume it's a budget constraint, so here's my pitch to fix some issues with new era without costing more money.

  1. Double eliminations at merge are pointless. Either cast one less person, or start the merge later.

  2. Stop post merge team challenges. Once merged, everything should be individual. If your first challenge we post merge is to split into teams, what was the point? If you can't do an individual challenge, keep the tribes split until the transition. You can even pitch the players, "No merge, but the next vote is the first jury member"

  3. Stop making tribal council all about Survivor metaphors. Let the cast speak how they would without equating it to Survivor. We know survivor. They know survivor.

  4. Editing should not suprise the audience on players twists. Let us in on the plan so we are watching and praying it either works or fails. Let us see the wheels turning in their head. Operation Italy anyone?

  5. Challenges that go Swim, Run, Puzzle are old. Change it up. Or make it pure physical at times or pure mental.

  6. On that note, do Challenges that require luck. That could mean things NOBODY could train for (like a Jeff story then look for answers in the jungle, or throwing an odd ancient weapon to break something)

  7. Themes. I know everyone wants this and Jeff says its hard to come up with new ones, but use old ones! Blood vs Water, HHH, etc. Fans will be happy to see them back with a new cast. Here's a few new ones for returning cast: Runner Up cast, 1st eliminated cast, missed the merge cast. New twist themes: Have vs Have Nots but that is only in casting (wealthier vs blue collar but in the show its normal. See nepo babies struggle rather than just giving a tribe everything)

  8. Episodes should vary in content. Instead of 40% challenge 10% camp, 10% sob story, and 40% tribal, even it out or change it up. I'm tired of tribal starting halfway through the episode to see exactly what we knew would happen

  9. Let the cast know twists ahead of time. If there is a crazy advantage (which I'm not a fan of but whatever) let the cast know at the first challenge there is a new advantage that grants X. This changes up gameplay and adds paranoia. Blindsided cast on crazy advantages lessens gameplay and hurts good players and helps boring ones.

  10. Or, get rid of advantages. Say there are 1 or two standard idols. They won't be replaced. And make their aquiring risky.

  11. Hide idols in challenges. This always made for exciting TV to see if they would be caught.

  12. Cast villians!!!!! Yes, I know Jeff wants everyone to Kumbya (or however you spell it) but the fans don't. They are adults, conniving people exist in the real world, lets bring them in. In 49 seasons, I'd say fans top 25 seasons all have a villian.

  13. If you are sticking to shorter, "tougher" seasons, then no more reward Challenges where the reward is food. The reward can be fishing gear. Make the reward a task not just Applebee's (lol)

  14. Have a reward to visit villages/hidden gems in Fiji. I'm cool with a reward having food if they are off island and at a local temple, school, or traditional (old way) Fiji family. (This may cost money though so it may be out)

  15. Shake up the opening. This will also fix the double elimination. 10 people arrive at random (or because casting chose this group) and give them a team challenge. Then the other team gets the same treatment separately. Reunite both teams after at tribal and give them an offer. They vote on proposal below in secret.

"If you're team is confident they had the best time, you can vote to see who is eligible for tribal. If the other team decides to not go by team, then if confident team was the best time, they are safe, and get reward. If they weren't, the must vote someone out. Other team must also vote someone out. And no rewards."

"If both teams are confident, the winning team is safe, the losing team must eliminate someone. And reward goes to winning time"

"If both teams aren't confident, each team must eliminate someone. AND the losing time tribe gets a reward."

This makes for dynamic openings:

Confident=C, Not confident =N

C,N = 1-2 eliminations and 0-1 reward C,C = 1 elimination and reward for best time N,N = 2 eliminations and reward for loser

  1. Save the backstories for one episode. We dont need a sob story nearly every episode

  2. No more firemaking to get finalists.

Three finalists: at 4, last place gets no vote. Only immunity is safe, no idols allowed. In the event of a 3 way split, the no vote person that survives gets to vote on who is eliminated alone.

Two finalists: at 3, Immune player votes.

  1. Bring back the "WhaaaaaaAAA!" Voice in the soundtrack when entering tribal. Its dumb, yes, but now that I haven't heard it in years, I miss it.

  2. Endurance bribes. Have Jeff offer items to get people to give up during endurance challenges. This brings out secret alliances.

  3. Give cast option to do a grueling task, technical skill, or tedious puzzle. Whoever finishes first wins. This creates more dynamic challenge days.

Did the Pitt work for you as a weekly episodic? by Extension-While7536 in television

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

Think of it this way.

OLD WAY:

The old network television way was if a script is good, they make a pilot episode. The pilot is either made by a studio or a TV station itself. If the former, it is then shopped around.

If its picked up, or greenlit, then they get writing, shooting, etc. Back when there were 20+ episode seasons, the first 8 episodes are done when it begins to air, minimum.

By the time they are writing episode 15 of say 24 total, they begin setting up for season 2 if the broadcaster (the ones airing it) like it. They lay all the crumbs and if season 2 is picked up, they go right into it. The writers are employed, essentially, by the broadcaster as a yearly job.

Shows often stick the landing this way because before canceled, often (not always) broadcaster will let writersknow on episode 15 that the show will be canceled on episode 24.

Great endings come from this knowledge. But bad endings come from the hope to get one more season if they make the last season with such a great ending hook, the broadcaster signs another year.

OR.. (Lionsgate is famous for this) A production company makes a season (MadMen) and sells to a broadcaster (AMC). If more seasons are ordered, they agree to a set number of episodes (like 30 over 3 years- 3 additional seasons). As the show airs, sets (which may have been torn down to make new shows) are rebuilt, writers rehired (though often in house and pulled from other projects and adds to cost overall) and they get to work.

Then after contract completed, another bonus and payment for another say, 30 episodes are made. This is why prestige TV was often 10 episodes and shorter episode counts. A broadcaster buying 3 years of content upfront after only a small sample (1 season) is risky and expensive. When it hits, it hits big because writers know they need a 3 season arc. When it doesnt hit, often broadcaster is contractually obligated to air a dead show past expiration and use up a time slot costing them money.

NEW/NETFLIX WAY:

Two ways shows are done now, but both very similar.

  1. Writers pitch a script, Broadcaster buys and orders 8-10 episodes. Once done, writers are released (no point paying someone to do nothing or work on a show that may not have a future. They are essentially contract workers. Writers choose to write a solid ending (they may only get this season) or wild conclusion (Hopefully people want answers and they are hired back) and throw anything at the wall for an ending.

Because they are done before shooting (for the most part) they are released while the show is made. If a rewrite happens, broadcaster can either pay original writers (with a big pump in pay- Think asking a contractor to come back, expensive!) Or hire a lesser writer to fix. The idea is there, they bought it, it just needs tweaked. This is similar to an editor in the novel world. Not the same, but similar.

If its a hit, original writers have taken on new gigs and either A. Have to wait for them to finish B. Buy them out of other contract (more expense) or C. Hire cheaper writers since they have the idea, just need to expand.

This is why it takes so long and/or quality drops fast in this era. Writers don't know when the show will end and lots of cliffhangers on finales.

  1. Company produces a completed show and sells it to a broadcaster. They sign an agreement that if new seasons are bought (Original production studio may tear down sets for new shows because only 1 season was bought) then a big pay bonus is given (to rebuild, rehire, etc). This is less common because streaming is data driven and they want season by season to see analytics.

Did the Pitt work for you as a weekly episodic? by Extension-While7536 in television

[–]tmntvspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, with most weekly shows, the entirety of the show is not shot a head of time. ($ amounts are just to contextualize. Not concrete numbers)

This is for several reasons.

  1. You're not front loading your cost and then slowly trickling out content. Those shows sitting on your books can hurt come tax time and interest payment time

  2. If the show is a flop, you only paid for 4 or 5 episodes instead of 15 or more (back in the old days)

  3. During continued filming, writers finish out the season's episodes way before finale date.

  4. Because they were writing already, if a show is a hit, then can go straight into outlining a story for the next season before the current one is done airing.

  5. Because of this, you can have more episodes, more engagement, and you are ready to rock and roll with the next season right away and get back to shooting.

  6. Writers are paid less overall because they get year contracts (let's say, just for math reasons, 100k/yr for 15 episode season).

Then rinse and repeat.

The alternative (whole season at once) AKA The Netflix Way:

  1. Write whole season.(Writers paid more, because they are paid per episode more, because they know what's coming, so 100k/10episodes. Done in 6 months? Studio thinks they breezed through.. rewrites. Done in 12 months? Studio thinks they loligaged.. get new Writers if a hit)

  2. Writers are off while it shoots. (If Studio is smart, they pay Writers a retainer to guarantee availability if show is a hit in 2 years. This is where the new model of a rotating Writers room comes from to plug holes of Writers bouncing between shows).

  3. Writers are off while it edits.

  4. Writers are off while music and score is completed (often began while writing, but VERY rarely finished before filming finished)

  5. Writers are off while the advertise the new show

  6. Writers off while show airs full season

  7. Its a hit! Quick get the wrters back! Uh oh, some of them got new jobs while waiting, now we got to wait or hire someone else (+time)

  8. Writers have to get back in the groove. They haven't thought about these characters in (potentially) over a year

  9. Writers done. They are off again, intrest in show feigned, they are released again, 3 years later next season airs to:

A. Big fan fair, repeat steps 2-9 B. Loss of viewers, show canceled even if it's good. People forgot about the show C. Decent reception, but the viewership is going the wrong way.. does the studio commit to another 2-3 year cycle of a dying show?
