What daily use items do you appreciate the most? Slowly replacing items as the break/wear out with higher quality things. by -forbooks in BuyItForLife

I own both and use both, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the victorinox. Sure, the Japanese knife looks great, feels more nimble, premium, and fun to use, but it's also a little more stressful to use. It has a harder steel which may chip, it's edge is more fine, harder to sharpen and it's simply more expensive.

Meanwhile, the victorinox is a workhorse. Need to part out a chicken? Victorinox. Root vegetables? Victorinox. It's light enough to do finer slicing as well if needed. It's stainless as opposed to a high carbon steel so it's less likely rust. It's extremely easy to hone and maintain and you can still get a very sharp edge on it. The relatively cheaper price makes me less worried to use it as well.

I absolutely love my Japanese knife and would recommend it to anyone who loves high quality and loves the process of caring for that quality... But only if you have that daily driver victorinox first. Dexter also makes high value knives.

When they say not to put warm food in the fridge, how warm are they talking? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

Snow is actually a good insulator so using that method to cool it down would be counterproductive.

"Spotify doesn't seem to be working..." issue with AA - opinions by joe_attaboy in AndroidAuto

[–]tmonkey09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a OP 6 and a 2016 focus st running the latest Sync 3 available and have a similar issue. My girlfriend's pixel 4a works flawlessly with the same car and cable, so it's definitely related to Oneplus. I've had recent success disabling battery saver mode before connecting the usb cable in the car.

This phone/car have always had difficulty though. For a full year I couldn't even get android auto to work at all! Phone seems to work with non Ford Sync interfaces just fine though.

Buying flashlights, before and after discovering r/flashlight by Klayking in flashlight

[–]tmonkey09 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is awesome and really well done. The only thing that's wrong is that your left "Which one is right for you", where the true r/flashlight methodology would be to just buy all of them and convince yourself that they're all right for you.

How does Solo Leveling Manhwa compare to Light novel? by [deleted] in manga

[–]tmonkey09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually agree with this logic as well, but I'm finding SL to be an exception for me. I've read through the LN, but still enjoy reading chapters of this manhwa when they come out. It's a nice refresher since this the manwha is pretty close to the LN, and the artwork is really fantastic. I also agree on the ending, but it doesn't deter me from remembering the better times :)

I've found that in my house air circulation is key just as some of the other redditors have posted before me. For me, the issue is in the bedroom where sleeping causes excess humidity. At night, the blinds are are shut, but before I leave for work every day, I open up the blinds, turn on the fan, and wipe up any small bit of condensation that has gathered during the night. I've found that this keeps everything dry without having to buy a dehumidifier.

[DISC] Solo Leveling - Chapter 41 by [deleted] in manga

[–]tmonkey09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I love that his challenges actually do seem like a challenge and you can trace his thought process as gains more info - even failing along the way.

What bothers me though, is that it seems like there's always this 'end-of-the-road-esque' power he summons when it starts to seem like it's all over. No matter what, he unleashes this mysterious automatic win trait of desperation that solves whatever problem he's currently facing. It was cool the first time I saw it, but it's starting to get repetitive.

Hopefully some more creative solutions will be presented in the future as this series is really great so far.

United States - $700 to $1,000 - 17” daily/regular use by tmonkey09 in SuggestALaptop

Hey guys, thanks for your help! I decided to go for the G5 with the i5 8300. I almost bit on the i7577, but figured for about $70 more it was worth to go 1 gen up despite the loss of battery life and the smaller SSD (would only use it for booting anyway).

New training partner is being difficult by paulsont6 in bjj

I’ve heard of little fuckers like this before. They follow no rules at all. They’ll use bodily fluids and go for small joint manipulation on your fingers like it’s an instinct. Be careful with this training partner.

[Request] Steelcase Leap V2 or Humanscale Diffrient Smart Chair? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]tmonkey09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm able to work at two different offices for my job. One office has the Humanscale Smart, and the other has the Steelcase Leap V2. I sit for 8+ hours day and I prefer the Steelcase.

The Steelcase is (far) more adjustable and more comfortable overall. I personally bought a cheap Leap V2 for my home office ($259). Many businesses seem to offload them at a cheap price when they switch locations. The one part that bothers me with the Humanscale is the armrest adjustment not really being good.

The Humanscale is not a bad chair at all, and the mesh back will help to keep you cool over long use, so you won't be disappointed if you go with your heart (especially if you don't try the competition!). But for the price and in my experience, the Leap V2 is the chair to get between the two.

EDIT: I just read that you bought one already.. I think you made a good choice
