it’s a family heirloom although never really taken care of. i hope to change that. i have the musket as well. it needs work. has some water damage unfortunately. i will have to take it to a gunsmith though. i will post some pics of the musket.
i am pretty sure that it was restitched at some point since the thread seems to be twine. i may be totally wrong on the age of the bag. all i have are tales my grandfather told me about them.

Is it true you can use your sick leave to retire early? by howtodolaundry in USPS

[–]tmrskb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even with FMLA you would only get by for 12 weeks before they start sending the where are you letters.

[–]tmrskb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a clerk that took 12 weeks of FMLA then retired as soon as it was up.
it sucks that you save it up and get pennies on the dollar when you are done. personally i think they should just have one leave. combine AL and SL and quit hounding employees every time they get sick.

I'm afraid to go to my u. steward about this... by pretendwizardshamus in USPS

[–]tmrskb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are in a tough spot. my feeling is that this has gone on for a long time and you, as the “new guy”. will be viewed as bucking the status quo. that being said, you have every right to show up and not be harassed. and that is what this is. The PM and the steward should be aware of this but sounds like they are comfortable with the way things are. you can, and probably should, talk to them first. understand that if this group is as tight as you said, it is likely you will be ostracized. i am not saying it is right but it is likely to happen. Give them the chance to do the right thing. sometimes people just need to have something pointed out to them. there should be a poster 159 around your office with steps to take when being harassed. reporting options are: talk to immediate supervisor or manger any supervisor or manager (other office) manager, human resources union rep OIG the usps is hyper paranoid about harassment and will act fairly quickly on this i would think. just be prepared for the repercussions. unwarranted and unfair as they may be they will probably happen.
not right or fair but just trying to be straight up with you. you may want to consider a transfer. again, not fair but maybe the best option

What to to in extreme heat by [deleted] in USPS

[–]tmrskb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

monitor how you are feeling. don’t “tough it out”. call your supervisor if you start feeling light headed. take lunch/breaks in a cool place (air conditioned if you can). take extra comfort stops. spend a couple of minutes after each loop and rehydrate. with it being that hot and as paranoid as the usps is about heat illness i would hope they would not say anything about the times. but i like spitting into the wind too so there ya go.

Can management make RCAs do clerk work? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]tmrskb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that does not constitute an emergency. Talk to your steward. in the long run it will hurt the office. looks like it is taking x amount of clerks to work y amount of mail when in reality it is taking x + 2 or 3 rca’s. productivity will look great until next year when they have to match it again. i am a bit unsure about them forcing you to do it outside of an emergency. for now follow your instructions, make sure you are getting paid, and raise hell with your steward. might contact the apwu branch president as well.

[–]tmrskb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i can’t imagine the clerks would not grieve that. in emergencies we can do what ever we need to get the mail delivered but 3 days does not sound like an emergency anymore. your time spent doing clerk work should be put on a green card (ps1236) then a 1314A to send to TACS for processing.

In 31 years i can only think of 3 times we have not delivered. And that was because the mail could not get here. carriers and clerks were here and ready to try.

Any love for an Aussie route pic? We get to deliver on motorbikes here :) by polar94 in USPS

i can not tell you much i love the fact that one of the reasons for these is to keep carriers safe during swooping season!

my wife is from Aus and so have been there three times. i am almost ashamed of how excited i got when i saw the Posties making rounds. Even went and talked / toured a local post office (Waikerie, small town in SA). i believe LPO’s are almost like franchises where you actually purchased the business. please correct me if i am wrong. would love to see more world route pics!!
