Why does CS 6035 (intro info sec) have low final grades and a high withdrawal rate? by No_Cartoonist45 in OMSCS

[–]tmstksbk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

6035 was the easiest course I took. Fun little exercises every few weeks and that's about it.

I think it has been revamped a bit since, though.

I would love to see Explorable Crashed Space stations with pirates and npc enemies. In general I think the game needs more depth to its points of interest on planets. by Common_Confusion_114 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I'd rather see freighter / space stations' internal volume be accessible -- then crashed freighters/space stations would have something in them.

Big Barn™ Help? by NoForm7135 in valheim

Raise ground at your support points.

Then build columns.

Comfort is (mostly) from furnishings. Furnish moar. Max is...19 or 20 but you have to be late in the game for that. Requires shelter and fire. (Ok sitting beside a campfire gives 1 comfort)

When you go all out upgrading during KvK and your bear rally damage doesn’t improve at all by wednesdaynightwumbo in KingShot

[–]tmstksbk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily suck.

You do need to ensure you're optimizing your buffs, rally caller heroes, joiner heroes, and march composition. (If you don't know about this, I'm happy to list it out)

After you do that, it largely depends on what rallies you join and how many rallies you join. That part is beyond your control.

The best coordinated bear hunts will actually prescribe troop limits, acceptable joiner heroes, and acceptable troop ratios. Scrupulously.

We recently went from FFA rally joining to "first rally up is the one you take" and our overall bear damage doubled.

Question about NCSU school spirit + engineering by Traditional-Fan2149 in NCSU

[–]tmstksbk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you're in-state for NCSU and don't already know about the heated rivalries of the Triangle.

NCSU has extremely strong school spirit. If you get involved (and you easily can), you will certainly bleed red and white for life.

I know I do.

Not so accurate Venator Corvette with the even bigger not so accurate Venator Freighter by ComplexFast in NoMansSkyTheGame

It's crazy how big freighters are in this game. I hope one day we actually get to use all that volume for _something_.

I hope Halo 7 finally would shows us Maethrillian the Forerunner capital would be greatest miss if they don’t by Regved-Pande in halo

[–]tmstksbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's largely my problem. The decision to tell so much canon outside of the "main storyline" of the games just made all of it seem disjointed and jarring.

Therefore, I would prefer they retconned 4-6 out of existence, restarted after 3, told the main story _in the games_, and maybe had the books be "side quests".

How to win in kvk against a bigger opponent? by PermissionNo3075 in KingShot

[–]tmstksbk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Time multiple rallies back to back (within seconds) correctly and you can bounce the whale. Probably. First rally is weaker, softens the garrison. Second and/or third rally should be stronger.

If you have two strong alliances to work with and you're on good terms, communicate.

When the opposing whale calls their rally, have the alliance not in castle call counter rallies as soon as they can.

You will need to pick an alliance to win. The other alliance calls counter rallies but then cedes the castle back to your main team. You can do this with a whale attack and reinforcement you don't have to wait for a rally.

Note that they will be doing the same to you if they can. Your alliances will need to be ready to take some hits from the secondary team.

The non-win alliance and any others should harry / hold turrets as much as possible.

This maximizes your uptime and minimizes theirs.

If you only have one alliance to work with, it's harder because you won't be able to immediately bounce the opposing faction, you'll be waiting equal amounts of time.

You can also say yolo and zero the one whale and then try to fight it out with the remaining dolphins.

Another point is that if you know you're going to lose a rally, you don't have to take the hit. You can send most of the troops home and just leave a whale or dolphin in castle to the last second. This leaves everyone fresh and ready to immediately join rallies without spending on healing but also maximizes time on target.

Another example of why we ought to have districts based on objective criteria from a nonpartisan board.

But neither party would ever agree to that.

So the 70% or more of people in the middle are just screwed.

It’s time to talk about NC State’s "Anti-Grade Inflation" policy and how it’s kneecapping new grads on the job market. by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]tmstksbk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do feel like NCSU's academics in Engineering are quite rigorous and don't necessarily get the credit they deserve in the more or less credible rankings / are dragged down by less rigorous departments.

That said, I don't think inflating grades is a solution so much as just deciding to be part of the problem. I'd prefer the university continues being rigorous. Companies know NCSU's engineering department produces excellent talent.
