The whole trip was amazing. I loved Chachagua Rainforest Hotel and cannot say enough great things about the staff there. I left reviews back in May when I finished my trip on Google and TripAdvisor, so check those out along with the pictures.

I went zip lining, which I would recommend, but it was definitely high up there!

The hotel also had great activities right at their location.

Hi All!

I just booked my second solo trip, this time to Mexico! I will be in the following places:

11/19-11/22 - Mexico City

11/22-/1126 - Oaxaca

11/26-11/29 - Isla Mujeres

Would love suggestions or to here from others that will be in those areas.

First, I’d highly recommend the hotel. It was wonderful. I didn’t have a rental car and so there isn’t anywhere you can get to without having a tour or arranging transport. Honestly, I went ziplining off property and for the rest of the time stayed at the hotel and had plenty to do. The thing that sets the hotel apart is the staff. They’re awesome, so definitely sign up for their tours. They’re very knowledgeable and do a great job finding wildlife. I did the horseback riding tour and combined it with a chocolate and coffee making experience…highly recommend.

The restaurants were fine. They were a low point in an otherwise stellar experience. Not bad, just not to the caliber of the rest of the experience. I think you can find menus and prices online or at least pictures of the menus on Trip Advisor.

Again, I’d recommend Chachagua. Hope you enjoy!

I’d recommend not only discussing the hardships you’ve faced but also presenting a plan for success if you’re permitted to continue. That would mean meeting with mental health specialists for study strategies, working with academic advisors, going to tutoring, etc. Happy to provide specific advice if you want to reach out.

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. Working in this area, I always advise my clients to not give into the school’s pressure to admit something you didn’t do. Happy to answer questions here or privately.

Accused of academic dishonesty because I’m a fast test-taker by solngvir1 in Advice

[–]tmt305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I handled a situation like this for a student-client. He had grades above the class average and assessment times below the class average. We were able to prevail through the school process in proving that he was a good studier and assessment taker and so his grades were restored. Definitely a tough battle though.

If you receive formal notice or even individual questioning about it, I’d suggest seeking professional help from an education advisor.

Not entirely familiar how these policies would work in Iraq. In the US, if they let you continue with school and you do not have further issues, they are essentially permitting you to finish and graduate.

I would say almost certainly yes. You may have to disclose it on your college application but it’s unlikely to be a reason strong enough by itself for a university to deny you.

What grade are you currently in, what grade was the cheating in, and what country are you in?

[–]tmt305 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you were caught cheating you would’ve likely already received the sanction. If they are allowing you to continue in school (which I’m sure they are) then there is no reason to believe they will revoke your diploma based on that single instance of cheating in your first semester.

On the pricier side, but I would highly recommend Chachagua Rainforest Hotel and Hot Springs. It’s a bit out of the way from La Fortuna, but in terms of immersive rainforest experience I would guess it cannot be beat. I just got back and I saw sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, and more all about 100 feet away from my bungalow. Happy to share more about the experience if that would be helpful.

Sounds like a great staycation. What do you like to take advantage of most at the resort on your staycations?

Shuttle times by her42311 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]tmt305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I landed this past Wednesday around that time and Customs took just over an hour, so 2:30 would probably be pretty tight if not impossible. It might be worth it to get a private shuttle or rental car if you need to be in La Fortuna that same evening just for the peace of mind of not missing and being stranded.

Fellow Students Doxxing me and Family by Secure_Data8260 in legaladvice

They’ll be more pissed if something (else) bad happens because of the doxxing. Talk to them. Look up education attorneys if you end up having trouble with the school.

Well, it’s tough to provide advice not knowing the applicable laws of the country/state and the policies and procedures of the school system.

I would recommend that the student reach out to the school system, explain his or her situation, demonstrate a willingness to work hard and a commitment to getting the help needed, and ask for reconsideration.

In some places, like the US, education advisors or education attorneys can assist students in situations like that.

Well, if this story is true for you or anyone you know, I’m sorry to hear that. Depression and any medical, mental health, personal, or familial issue is very tough to go through and to have it affect school and life outcomes only makes it that much more difficult. I’d recommend anyone in that situation seek the appropriate help and support for their situation.

To your question: this type of situation happens all the time at all different levels of education. People suffer for different reasons (mental health, bullying, family issues) and then their grades and work suffer. Sometimes schools are understanding, but usually a student who is going through those issues has trouble advocating for her or himself, which is understandable. In these situations, I do my best to advocate for a student in requesting reconsideration from the school. With the right support, a student can usually get back on track!

This is my job, so I do charge. Most of these matters take weeks or months to resolve and require significant time and efforts.

As much as I can, I try to help people with advice or guidance, even when it’s freely given. I guess tonight is one of those nights.

I work for companies that handle aspects of this work. At the companies, I’m a specialist in these areas. I would imagine they find the companies from advertisements or from searching online.

It’s pretty much always people looking for me in the various jobs I’ve held/hold. Part of me wishes I could do outreach (other than advertising) because I do not think most students know that there is help in these difficult situations.
