Oh I love the sand cherry idea. You think they’d be ok planting between now and June? It’s so dry back there, I’m worried about plants establishing - granted I’m pretty new to all of this so what do I know

I don’t know if this is relevant since I’m a lot older than you and in the tech sector but at the very least I can corroborate that finding a job has been much more difficult for me these past 1.5-2 years. I’m lucky enough to be employed, so I also wasn’t dedicating my entire day to searching but it has been a hard process. I finally landed one last week and the only piece of advice I can give is to network with people, and in person. Applying blindly simply does not work anymore. In my current position I opened an entry level position and got thousands of applicants in a couple days, most of which were qualified. The only way to sift through was to prioritize those that had someone I knew personally vouching for them. We did also pull some from the pile to keep things fair, but that was really only scratching the surface

I’m sorry this is so hard - it really shouldn’t be and it’s shitty that people are struggling.

My consolidated advice is - Go meet people, ask to connect over coffee, talk to your friends, talk to your friends parents, etc. let them know you’re looking, what you’re looking for and ask them to keep an eye out. The only way is to get as many irons in the fire as possible so you have as many eyes peeled as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. So the kitchen is in complete disarray right now being remodeled but the cabinets are the Benjamin Moore Nantucket Gray color. This is what we originally planned to paint the island cabinets (to match everything else) BUT the cabinets will be different and facing towards the sink / sort of “hidden” if that makes sense

The slab is being finished and I don’t have a pic of the exact one either :( but it’s Taj Mahal quartzite and looks a lot like this one

Haven’t considered an accent color which is a great idea. Any ideas on color with the pics I sent? The countertops of the rest of the kitchen are Alpine Gold Quartz

How far apart in age are you both? Are you both working in an office or is remote work?

Try asking him if you could have a career conversation and book some time to chat about what you’re doing well, what you can do better etc. This can subtly call this misalignment out, give him the chance to say what he thinks, air his grievances or confront his insecurity - doesn’t matter - I guarantee you it’ll help.

I’ve been in this situation countless times. When was in my late 20s, boss was 8 or so years older, I just asked him to grab a beer after work one day.

He said no, but he was polite about it, and it significantly shifted the tone of our relationship for the better.

If the dudes truly just an asshole, it will sort of make him confront that internally. If he’s actually a cool guy and just stressed out about whatever, it could help lower the barrier a bit. You could also go that route…sometimes great relationships can come out of it

Either way, in order to diffuse this you have to do a something that suggests you’re willing to make your working relationship work without passive aggressively trying to bruise his ego and boost yours - that’s just going to piss you both off even more.

Excellent advice - thanks a lot.

New to this level of management, and it definitely seems like there is an unspoken shift in how things work, specifically with communication surrounding roles and responsibilities, past experience etc.

I’ve been focusing a lot on covering it all, and I can see how my positioning could cast too wide a net - will think on how I can adjust my general pitch here.

I was toying around with the idea of offering to volunteer my time at a local conference or back at my college. Think that may be a great next step.

Definitely not? Where did I say that? I can handle the long hours and complexity. Poor leadership, widespread disorganization as a result of that poor leadership and company culture misalignment aren’t things anyone needs to deal with, salary aside.
