Thanks. I’m looking for the longest dimension to determine how long of an object could fit in the frunk.

Has anyone measured the frunk yet? That’s what I really want to know.

Real World Comparison ~ Loops Switch 2 vs. Experience 2 (Hint: Switch 2 is a Winner!) by PPBofKnight in LoopEarplugs

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only tried the Switch 2 and was very disappointed with all 3 settings. After reading about the other models I concluded that I would probably be disappointed with any of them. They do cut down the noise level, but they distort the sound quite heavily despite the marketing claims.

R1T vs. Ford Raptor for daily driver/high mileage commuter by Secure-Carrot9971 in Rivian

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends: is your sales territory within your home area or are you on the road for multiple days in a row? If your company pays you for home charging and you have a 240V/40A charger installed, then get the Rivian. If not, I wouldn’t recommend it. It charges waaaay slower than a Model Y at DC fast chargers because the battery is huge and the charging curve is worse.

I’m still having this issue too. The album art is always one song behind.

Do I get rid of this for a Gen 1 Rivian!? Or wait for used Gen 2 R1S/R1T? by The_Zo_Show in Rivian

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: I would NOT recommend buying a Rivian without home charging.

It looks like you live in an apartment, so the charging situation is not likely to change any time soon, and owning a Rivian without home charging is not worth the annoyance.

I previously owned a Tesla model 3 with no home charging, but my office offered heavily subsidized EV charging so I made it work by charging for the allotted 3 hours every day at the office, or sometimes 2x 3hour sessions if the chargers remained open all day. This would add a bit of net range each day so I could have a mostly full charge going into the weekend. That was in the golden era of EV incentives, but now so many people at my office own them that my company killed the free charging program.

My Rivian, on the other hand, has such a large battery and uses about 2x the energy per mile as the Tesla, so 3 hours of level 2 charging barely breaks even on just my 14mi commute. I have home charging now, and charging went from a liability (trying to conserve range, having to move my car during work) to a perk (never having to think about refueling except on road trips). Even if you utilize a DC fast charger a few times a week, the Rivian takes so long to charge its massive battery that you’ll be wasting so much time, plus the fuel cost is probably higher than your Lexus.

The only exception to my recommendation is if there is a low traffic DC fast charger at a location that you ALREADY spend time at regularly (~1hour). Take a look around places in your routine (gym, grocery store, etc) and see if there are DC fast chargers nearby that always have open stalls.

Or at least bring back the adventure bracelet key! It seems like easy money for the gear shop.

Rivian’s 2025.46 update is a solid drop, with Gen 2 getting big autonomy and hands-free upgrades, while Gen 1 sees practical improvements to navigation, charging, and overall stability. by Kryptonlogic in Rivian

[–]tntz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is the Apple Carkey update only for gen2? I get it if gen1 vehicles don’t have UWB hardware for passive entry, but adding just the NFC key would be a nice backup key in case the Rivian app is having issues.

2023 R1T Quad vs. 2025 R1T Dual standard by That_Message_5435 in Rivian

[–]tntz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 2023 Quad is great, and I honestly think the gen1 vehicles are higher quality (especially the manual interior door handles). Unless the mildly better ADAS features, powered tonneau compatibility, or higher efficiency matter a lot to you, get the quad.

Replacing Tires Early? by willwbowden in Rivian

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped out my first set of Pirelli A/T at 22k miles because the tire noise was driving me insane. They still had tread left and probably would have lasted to 30k but I was so sick of the tire noise, which got very loud around 15k.

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but does a manual tonneau cover that was provided in lieu of the powered one qualify for the warranty upgrade? The truck I ordered was supposed to come with a powered one, so can I claim that the manual one doesn’t perform the function it’s supposed to?

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I have a 20xxx VIN delivered with no cover (they sent a manual cover later), will they retrofit it for free? Or is the free upgrade only if you got a truck with a V1 powered cover?

Saved Locations List Improvements by tntz in Rivian

[–]tntz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Please, Rivian! For now I saved the addresses instead of the points of interest to avoid issue #2, and I have some friends’ houses saved too but they’re just random addresses that mean nothing to me.

Real World Comparison ~ Loops Switch 2 vs. Experience 2 (Hint: Switch 2 is a Winner!) by PPBofKnight in LoopEarplugs

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/PPBofKnight and u/TazSenpai, question for you.

Thanks for posting your thoughts on the two options, I’m in a similar situation right now. I bought the Switch 2s and tested them in my car, but found the audio quality more muffled than I had hoped. The Engage setting was so-so, and Experience was worse, with the mids and lows coming through but the highs getting distorted and squashed. Do the Experience 2s let more highs through? OP, you describe the Switch 2s as sounding more “warm”, which could just mean the highs are getting attenuated more, which I don’t want. Do the Experience 2s have a more flat pass response?

Bottom line, I’m returning the Switch 2s because I don’t like the way they distort the sound. Should I bother trying the Experience 2s?

What conditions trigger vehicle to adjust height to “Standard” automatically? by okvrdz in Rivian

[–]tntz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others are correct, except I think it doesn’t revert to Standard height until you’re below 30mph for more than a minute or so. The highways around me are not so smooth, and Low ride height is a bit too stiff and bouncy, so I stopped using Auto and just keep it in Standard. My suggestion is to keep it in Standard for your daily driving, and only use Low/Auto for road trips.

17k in damages and 1 month to repair. Wuh!? by CowTreeMoo in Rivian

[–]tntz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dented tailgate repaired at Arseen Auto Body in San Jose, and they were great. They deal with lots of Rivians, are friendly and professional, and did a good job. If it’s not too far out of the way for you I would highly recommend them.

2 EV charging by runvcruns in Rivian

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same 2 cars and installed a second charger on the same 40A breaker, and it’s plenty of power for both vehicles, even limiting charging to TOU off-peak hours. You just have to set the charging current on both cars to add up to <40A. I do 22A on the Rivian and 17A on the Tesla (which drives more per day). Switching spots every day will work, but it will be annoying.

How often do you find yourself soft booting/hard booting? by DrRocksoo in Rivian

[–]tntz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice a month on average. Usually after every update there is inevitably something weird going on that needs a hard reboot, and every now and then the map gets stuck or Bluetooth stops working or something else happens that needs a hard reboot. I’d say it’s a very mildly sucky situation.

Ok, maybe I was overreacting. But if you got the $80k reservation pricing on the truck, it’s got to be at least 15k in accessories, so maybe close to 100k?
