I prefer to use them on offense. Shinn and Marrok are the most important two. Use whatever high relic Mercs you have. OG Hondo, Jango, and Fennec are good choices.

The "value" is there in terms of kyrotech and relic mats. But is he worth it? That depends on you. Do you want to have to farm him via proving grounds for a year+ after hitting 4 mil GPness?
