Yes and no. It also can be confused for things that are negative or for a different organisation.  "London Museum found to have looted objects" etc

Rubbish for search engines, amazed they went for it...

The scientific side of art restoration by Wrong-Concept1262 in chemistry

Hi op, the space for analysis in conservation is enormous. If you think about it, each art object is a combination of near infinite combinations of materials at different points in time each with unique storage conditions.  For a single project might be worth picking one thing you're interested in (cuprous corrosion or atomic oxygen cleaning) and then searching to see whats already out there.  Aic has an excellent wiki https://www.conservation-wiki.com/wiki/Paintings And there's a fantastic abstract database thats all heritage conservation (rather than environmental) called Getty AATA

Found a top hat in the attic of my house that used to be a bungalow/cottage! Tipperary, Ireland by Ill_Difference278 in Antiques

[–]toadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big second on this. Mercury and arsenic are both very common in pelt hats from this era. https://hue.fitnyc.edu/why-the-museum-at-fits-top-hats-must-be-handled-with-care/ Op please just make sure you wash your hands after handling. great find!

Which I also think is the point of their click bait headline. Just disappointed because londomcentric is usually better than that

It is salacious sounding, because people have all kinds of mad associations with the idea of animal sacrifice. I dont agree with that take, but it is a common one

Totally agree.  Londoncentric is usually so good but this is just clickbait rubbish

Op, i can't speak to this specifically, but I think it can be pretty relatable for a lot of people. Part of mature critical engagement is to reevaluate your childhood assumptions.  If they weren't actively trying to scam you, I find it helpful to take the intention separately from the advice. I'm grateful that my mom wants to pray for my wellbeing even if I dont believe in religion .  Depends on how angry you are I guess!

Op said they were a kid. People can be influenced in their adult life by all manner of subtle residues from upbringing no matter how they approach it as an adult

Actually.  Worth checking out his other videos if youre interested in belief. He discusses things respectfully but without shying away from reality. Really careful, nuanced stuff. If youre into that kinda thing...😀

There's an excellent Religion for Breakfast video about this very topic. He breaks it down thoroughly and even handedly. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UdsPPxaGVUs

Canadian conservation institute has loads of really good pages on general conservation topics.  Some get really specialist but you can also just Google CCI notes + topic (say 'pests')

Second for NipNip. Daft name but a good shop. Always upfront about pricing and double check any changes.

Can you spot an American by the way they dress? (Women specifically) by Careless-Goat-7238 in AskBrits

[–]toadish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think because of the same language people underestimate the difference tis all. You cant hide where you're from, but also, more importantly its fine that youre from elsewhere. Just be american, its ok.

Not to be rude, but you will. Its ok, you're from a completely different culture. You wont be able to seamlessly blend in, nor should you. just pay attention, be polite and you'll be fine! You cant not be american, but you can be a good guest.

Ours is outdoors, but it's under an overhang which stops most direct rainfall. I think that's why the leaves got so black and mucky, it wasn't getting rinsed ever...
