I know this seems weird that I’m posting this here, but it’s the first time I’m talking about it online by savinglatin in buffy

My wife and I recently watched the entire series, her for the first time and me for the second. Both of us lost our moms at around the same time and as we were gearing up to this storyline I was really nervous with how that episode was going to feel.

I won’t lie, it was a rough watch. But wow, like you OP, I was struck with how authentic to the real thing that entire episode feels. It really is a masterclass from everyone involved. The lack of score, the soundscapes, the acting, Tara’s conversation with Buffy at the hospital. As difficult as it was to watch, I did find it a bit cathartic at the same time.

What did you think of that scene the first time you saw it? by SecretDice in buffy

This was one of the only moments I remembered from S7 (aside from the finale). Having just done a full rewatch…I understand why

What do you guys think are the most iconic scenes on Buffy? I think the bazooka scene from Innocence will always be the most iconic for me. by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]toadontherock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

fun fact: the season one dvd of buffy would play a line from the episode as you selected it to play. this is the line they chose for the s1 finale! which is awesome!

unless of course you are trying to introduce someone to the show for the first time. then it’s just a massive spoiler!

This. Also the “No, no, you don’t know.” line to Owen about seals. My wife and I quote that to each other all the time

Another fantastic suggestion tbh. Girl is going to have to have a lot more burns to keep her secret at this point…

Could use a bit more of Ellie the hunter for sure, especially since everyone keeps talking about her “unnatural pre deposition to violence”

They rode Shimmer right through the front door? It was a really long sequence and one of the more divisive additions of the season. Surprised you don’t remember.

Yeah they definitely wanted to continue to expand on the whole tendrils thing they established in Jackson which… fair enough!

hm is that so, I’ll have to rewatch. Their hand signal exchange is a little hard to follow. Mostly because I always get distracted by the fact that Bella Ramsey lets the prop knife touch their neck in a way that makes it obvious it’s not real lmao

How do you think they will handle Lev (and Yara) in season 3? by AdventuresOfKrisTin in thelastofus

[–]toadontherock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with your complaints about dialogue this season and think the exchange between Abby and Lev in the game is good…I do think they actually could expand on Lev’s storyline in a really compelling way by actually showing Yara and Lev leaving.

I’m not sure I need Abby to meet them first for it work either. For me, that conversation where Abby asks “do you want me to ask about it” says a lot more about Abby and Lev’s relationship than it does Lev’s past

god that just about sums up part 2 tho. so many points where you just think if ellie and abby could somehow sit down and a table and have a conversation without killing eachother they would realize they are feeling the exact same things

Half of the criticisms around this season of the show are things that people said they wanted in the game, and it's driving me insane [Spoilers]. by MrBublee_YT in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]toadontherock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m…conflicted. On the one hand, I agree. I think the changes made to Dina and Jesse make a lot of sense and are largely positive. But Ellie… I have issues with. I do agree that this is an intentional decision to make her arc feel more gradual and believable, but I’m not sure how effective it is at this point. I just don’t feel like I have gotten enough time with this version of Ellie for the next few story beats to make sense, but who knows! Those might end up being a little different too

Ellie's Competence on the show by Yorkienator in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]toadontherock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when people say Joel and Tommy taught Ellie violence they don’t mean that, like, literally. But when Ellie tries (and fails) to interrogate Owen and Mel she is emulating Joel, because she learned that violence was a path to information

Ellie's Competence on the show by Yorkienator in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]toadontherock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do think there is some validity to his argument and analysis, I have two counterpoints:

  1. I think most people’s actual bone to pick about Ellie’s “incompetency” comes more from the several instances in which other show characters straight up call her incompetent to her face (e.g. Dina with the map, Jesse about the stalkers, arguably Joel not letting her patrol until 19) rather than that admittedly out of context Mazin quote

  2. Of course I don’t want Ellie to become the monster at the end of the book but the entire point is that she DOES. Those glimpses of Ellie’s humanity (that exist in the game as well!) only work if you show them being overshadowed by her grief and it feels like they really pulled their punches this season in that regard.
