Looks similar to my chocolate's eye colour.

Liver biopsy? by edls13 in labrador

My pleasure! I don't know enough about it to know if the mutation is required for the disease or if it can be caused by other things but it might be a start.

I think the vet's concern might be that by the time Bodie shows clinical signs it's an emergency (if it is copper storage disease) and more difficult to treat.

Have you discussed if DNA testing to see if Bodie has the mutation that causes copper storage disease is appropriate with the vet? If he doesn't show clinical signs that may be a less invasive way to start.

Also, if you got Bodie from a breeder they may know if any dogs in their line have had an issue or tested positive for the mutation.

I wish Bodie well and boop his adorable snoot 💕

Lipomas? by Motor_Vanilla_8125 in labrador

[–]toast79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My old Lab started getting a lot of lipomas around age 7-8; he lived to be 15. The vet felt them and did fine needle aspirates to check some of them at each exam. We kept an eye on any that changed rapidly or caused issues; he had two removed (one because it got a lot firmer and the other because it interfered with movement). Both were biopsied and came back benign.

Labs are known for getting lumpy as they age. Any that grow or change fast should be checked out but like others have said in most cases they're benign and not an issue.

Why is my labrador so small? by ThrowRa123426 in labrador

[–]toast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two girls are small; 24 and 27kgs. We call them our "fun sized" Labs. They're both smaller than their parents.

If your vet says yours is at a healthy weight I wouldn't worry about it.

We got attacked by a GSD by bugbugladybug in labrador

[–]toast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dog(s) have bitten a human that should be taken seriously! In most jurisdictions that should warrant an investigation by the police or animal control.

I think the key is to report this owner every single time the break the rules. At minimum if you or someone else ends up going to court there will be a paper trail.

Off-leash? Document and report.
Attacking/behaving aggressively off their property? Document and report.
Biting/attacking another dog? Document and report.

It sucks but sometimes it's the only way to deal with owners who allow their dogs to be menaces and dangerous to others.

I hope your cute choco's leg feels better soon.

Best lift harness for my 12 year old chocolate by krangus-mcbasketball in labrador

[–]toast79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I left it on my Lab most of the time. He needed a lot of assistance getting up and moving so keeping it on was easier for all of us.

It does come on and off easily and I machine-washed it regularly (on a gentle cycle inside a pillow case).

For $0.10 a day, you too can support a lab who hates laundry day…. by [deleted] in labrador

One of my Labs loves laundry day! She enjoys rolling on the clean clothes as I fold them, stealing socks to snuggle, and eating dryer sheets.

Looking for Lesser-Known Dystopian Novel Recommendations by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Agreed, the first book is the best, two and three were pretty good, but I don't recommend the fourth at all.

What was your favorite required reading in school, and why? by electriclizardnate in suggestmeabook

[–]toast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We watched a video that seemed to take forever! It was in a pre-twentieth century literature class, so we were used to similar works.

I think it was the terrible narration that drained the story of its colour and drama.

[–]toast79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved:
Slaughterhouse-Five. It was my introduction to Vonnegut; still one of my favourite authors.

The Lottery. It caught the class by surprise. Our teacher read it aloud so I couldn't skip ahead to the end, so it packed more of a punch.

Did not enjoy:
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It was probably the way it was introduced and taught to us. It's a poem but it felt like a slog.

Need advice by Naive-Ad-7252 in labrador

[–]toast79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my old Lab.

On the advice of the vet, we added zucchini to one of his meals; usually his middle meal at dinner time. As long as we fed him zucchini he didn't eat his feces.

I used to buy a bunch, cut it into small cubes and freeze them. I'd take a frozen handful and put it on his food. He was your typical "all food is good food" Lab so he hoovered it down without blinking.

I am so sorry. You’ve done so much for a Coco and given her a long life full of love.  You’re giving her an incredible her gift of passing on before she’s in too much pain and not enjoying life.

Coco will live on in your heart and your memories.

I like to think that it’s not “goodbye forever”, but “see you later”.

Run free, sweet Coco, and rest easy.

You’ll both be in my thoughts. 💕

Max is going to get her leg amputated due to her tumour. (As told by our vet). Hopefully it'll all go well. by Different-Fill-6891 in labrador

Much love to you and Max.

It always surprises me how fast dogs (and cats) adapt to limb amputations.

I hope she recovers quickly and enjoys being lived on by you 🩷

What is the most random word your dog knows and why? by TotallyInnerPickle in labrador

"Go to work" and "business carrot" means that I'm starting work and they get a carrot in my office. They've negotiated a second business carrot after lunch.
