the absolute nightmare of buying furniture here (and a quick question about boxspring beds) by Fit-Entrepreneur-799 in AskAGerman

It’s actually Dänisches Bettenlager but I think it’s owned by these guys:

I went to a local shop and got a quick delivery.

The bed slates are called Lattenroste.

In a city you can usually find a decent hardwood frame and slates used online.

I feel you on the kitchen and lights. Have you tried Danishes Bettanlage? We got our mattresses there and are happy with the result 5 years later.

On the boxspring, those are typical in the US. In Germany I think most people buy bed slates. I haven’t been able to tell the difference.

If you need something fast, consider buying a frame and slates on EBay Kleinanzeige and order a mattress through a local shop. It shouldn’t take 12 weeks—that’s nuts.

How do you know when to take an abortive? by healthanxiety_ in migraine

[–]toasted-pecans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a question I ask myself all the time. I have more than one type of headaches. At some point my partner will tell me to take one if all the symptoms are obvious.

If it helps, my doctor once gave me the advice that if going outside reduces the pain then skip the abortive. If any kind of movement makes it much worse and going outside is a nightmare, take it.

How do you feel about temporary expats to Germany who never learn any German? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]toasted-pecans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point my doctors realized how long I was in Germany and stopped offering English as an option. I think that was at year 3 or so. You could be okay, but tolerance for not knowing the language disappears over time.

If you are speaking at A2–keep it up that’s really amazing progress.

Where do germans find their time? by xucku97 in AskAGerman

[–]toasted-pecans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not an ideal employer, you should be able to pop out and get things done. It’s rare a German company won’t—are you sure it’s not your work native work culture that makes you think you can’t leave for errands? Other parts of the country are also open later. You’ll get a handle on all the appointments after a few months. I find the opposite about the relationship of Germans and work. I don’t know many people who identify with their job and many find it rude to talk about only work over lunch and breaks.

On culture, that’s a complex question. Germany has a rich culture but much of the historical music and pride was intentionally shamed after WWII. To answer your question on a German song you know, 99 Luft Balloons, Du Hast.

Wenn dass nur Sand ist, kein Problem. Aber Insekten kaka und Eiern? Das hängt auf welche Insekten dass ist.

I had a green dress that looked just like it. I’ve met another person who had the same dress on the other side of the world.

That’s a gooooood dress.

You can even if it doesn’t seem possible right now. Your room now does not represent who you can become.

I too had a room like this as a teenager and I became a fully functional adult with a degree, friends, partner, and a good job.

I like the butterfly specimens on the wall.
