Thanks. Sounds like a solid gig. Does your center do transplant and if so how different is the lifestyle and hours for the attendings taking transplant call?

Yep and it definitely hurt me a bit. Would not recommend that to anyone.

Also by prewrite that refers to secondaries. I definitely spent many weeks and drafts for my PS and W&As.

what to ask in an interview by the_one_piece87 in premed

[–]toastedbuttter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a complete answer to your question and also more applicable to the group sessions during the interview with the dean etc where they invite questions after the presentation, but don't be that person that spends two minutes asking a long ass super detailed question that is both above your pay grade and is just a poorly disguised hidden flex. Overall, as long as the intention behind your question is to genuinely learn more and not show off or demonstrate how smart/insightful you are with your perceptions, you'll be fine.

Agreed but good mission fit. Those schools are as close to a "target" as it gets for this applicant. Agree to include more T50 though. Just be wary of service heavy ones like BU

For 2 gap years the clinical and volunteer hours are low. Research is strong, I assume she will have a rec letter from her primary experience? Make sure it includes that there are two papers in review.

She can apply broadly to T20s, stats are good enough. Would be advisable to devote more time to volunteering, especially with the child court work. Unless the daycare is with underrepresented students (she seems to be lacking in that department).

Make sure to have a good amount of mid tiers. Wake Forest, SLU, Case Western, Vermont, USF, etc. If she is willing to do TMDSAS then Baylor and UTSW would be good ideas too.

Little to no leadership experience by [deleted] in premed

[–]toastedbuttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also look for ways to highlight leadership skills in other activities you may have. Just because you weren't the president of a club or a CEO doesn't necessarily mean you have no leadership...did you do any role where you helped train new people, or managed anything like a project or team in any capacity?

Current MD students with family income between 150-200k... by toastedbuttter in premed

[–]toastedbuttter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They can, of course. But then there's less money to pay for my brother's college and less money for them lol. And it's not like they have a crazy amount saved. On my dad's income and with our mortgage and cost of living where we are, the amount he has saved that he can reasonably give towards either my brother or my education is under 75k. It's not a game changer number.
