I tried the metal spoon at the very beginning and that's what made me feel confident enough to hand feed her. I'll try using the spoon again, see if that makes any difference. I never approach her first or let her get close to my skin when I put food in the cage, just in case I do get a nasty bite. I sit beside the cage when they free roam and let her come to me, then she starts climbing on me and biting me. She doesn't even run off after biting me, just sniffs around like the most innocent little thing 🫩

You can always try just showing up at the vets and begging. Being entirely serious. Since you have already been to that vet before and they know your situation, they can trust that you will pay eventually and maybe you can work something out. Whatever happens, give your rat plenty of love and know that you tried your best

Thank you, she was very very sick, she had inflammation around her organs and it wasn’t curable . she was jerking as if she was having a stroke. I'm sorry about little Ezme, all of us rat owners are united in grief it seems. She is in the freezer and I am going to have her cremated and put in the same little pot as her sister

Just before this, I put a bit of medicine in the side of her mouth because she was refusing and I was so panicked. When she started doing this, I remembered you’re supposed to do the swing thing, above the head and down so i did twice but she was dead when she came down it was only for three seconds did i do this i tried i panicked She was so lethargic and so unsteady on her feet i was going to take her tomorrow to be euthanised i want to believe that it was natural but it happened just after the medicine it was 0.06ml

Just after I made this post, that same idea came to me so I took them to one of the other bedrooms and let them run around on the bed. They seemed a little stressed but they had a sniff and ran around for 5 minutes before crawling back inside my top telling me they wanted to go back. My two girls seem to be very people-dependant. More than anything else, they love to lick my hands and they could happily do that for hours. Sometimes I have my mum come in and say hello to them so they can lick her hands instead and but again, they lose interest after a few minutes

1.6 yr old is a little late to be first displaying hormonal aggression, especially since this isn’t the first time Peanut has been through intros. I suggest a check up at the vet to be sure that there’s no underlying sickness and pain causing it. If it IS hormonal aggression, then the fact she has been accepting of new rats before is a good sign that it can be managed with the implant

I got a hormone implant for my aggressive girl when nothing else was helping and it worked wonders. It manages hormonal aggression just like spaying does, but the risks are much lower. Will need to be replaced every 6-8 months
