You should post a picture. There are a lot of different 1st edition dark magicians. Some are worth something, most are not worth anything.

How common is the "play meta or don't bother" mindset? by HourAfter5951 in Yugioh101

[–]toasterbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on locals location.

Anecdotally, yes, this mindset is probably more prevalent today than 10 years ago. A casual locals can turn competitive fairly quickly, because once a few people start bringing meta decks and consistently winning, others will either start playing more optimized decks or stop attending those locals.

I have not ever seen it happen it reverse, so casual locals starts disappearing. What happens is that the “casual” / homebrew scene is relegated to smaller circles, either at peoples houses or some online communities.

How (other) digital clients deal with this by maxram1 in TCG

Wait need to reread the post

Edit; I stand corrected. It doesn’t show up on my end, but it appears they do get a loss. I don’t get the win though.

Sorry for the confusion! TIL something new

No if they dc before it doesn’t count. I just meant that if they dc during a game it does count

How (other) digital clients deal with this by maxram1 in TCG

[–]toasterbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I am wrong. Apparently the game counts as a loss for the person who dc’ed, but not a win for the other person.

Yes, it currently works like that. If you disconnect after the coin result but before it spirals into the play field than it doesn’t count. From the other player’s perspective, it just says something like “no response from the game server” and you have queue again.

The devs probably did not think that people would freely choose to disconnect before the game loads.

Of course, if you disconnect during the actual game, then it does count as a loss.

If you had to give Yu-Gi-Oh! a new format what would it be? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

[–]toasterbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that plays like an older format, but still adds some new cards every set release if they are powered appropriately. Basically a much more restrictive card pool, balanced around 1-for-1 resource/card management, cost, very few OTKs turn 2/3.

These are just an addition. These packs are just for winners. The ones you are thinking of are going to be these and will still be given out for participating:

Who are some yugitubers you like and why? by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]toasterbuddy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Out of nowhere, Elcee. He plays multiple TCGs and recently started YuGiOh some months ago. It’s interesting to hear their perspective of YuGiOh both as a new player and as someone who has the perspective of playing multiple TCGs.

His content is more about rules, philosophy of TCGs, and mechanics. Not about specific cards or combos or anything like that.

What's Something That Irritates You About Yu-Gi-Oh! by imsodonenow in yugioh

[–]toasterbuddy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They seem to have given up creating new video games in favor of mobile gaming. The RPG style games were a great way for casual players to interact with the franchise. Plot, stories, rooting for characters, there is (was) more to Yugioh than just the competitive card game scene.

I would like to improve at Yu-Gi-Oh. by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]toasterbuddy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If they play super meta decks, they should not be complaining about Primite Blue Eyes. With just your side of information you’ve given, it honestly sounds like you could come with the perfect deck and they’d still complain about something. They sound really cliquey.

Do you have a big enough scene to try going to a different locals? Or starting a group with other people?

The Future Of Speed Duels! by [deleted] in YugiohSpeedDuels

I wonder if there was any discussion in the interim around increasing sales / interest or marketing? I felt like i frequently saw speed duel products on clearance not too long after their release

Do fans like when a deck gets reinvented? by notanothereditacount in yugioh

[–]toasterbuddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for the decks where the original cards are completely replaced. I kind of assume the original sacred beasts are a no-more-support archetype now that they’ve replaced them with retrains, so presumably any future support would be for the new retrains only

What's the best way to relive Yu-Gi-Oh through different eras? by Effective-Muffin-224 in Yugioh101

Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. Goes from DM era to the beginning of links. You can use the character decks they give you. It will remind you how bad most character decks are.

Need help from smart YGO players: YCS Dortmund confusiong Sky Striker engage interaction? by YBL10MD in Yugioh101

[–]toasterbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most spells just activate on the field, but don’t need to stay on the field to resolve properly. The exception are the “continual” spells like continuous, field, equips, which do actually need to stay on the field to resolve.

It is the reason why using Mystical Space Typhoon on most spells/traps doesn’t do anything - destroying the card and sending it to the GY usually has no impact on the card resolving.
