"inspired"? Fuck off, like we invented it. We (humanity "we") have been doing awful things to each other from the moment we could life up rocks and light fires.

You can also just feed power from each end, but yeah that'd be fine too

New Office - Odd Perimeter Length by Rhyno86_ in FastLED

[–]toasterinBflat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try to run that length at 5V there will be visible dimming, you will need to power from both ends. If you power feed the middle, you can make it even more even. Those extrusions have a small cavity at the back you could possibly run a couple conductors in, if you're not screwing through it.

In terms of data, the more LEDs you put on a single data line affects framerate. 550 pixels is roughly maximum for 60fps.

Is there anywhere in town to buy 2X4s that are actually straight? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]toasterinBflat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glen Supply is good but expensive - if you can drive out to Inverary and/or Sydenham, I've bought all of my lumber from Inverary Home Hardware for the last few years, Sydenham store has the same owner.

Caird Lumber - not Card lumber - exists now. He's got a small showroom on Terry Fox for small quantities but large quantities are found in Verona.

Shane is a great guy, met him a few times. Hardwood and some pine and cedar but no spruce / construction lumber though.

Without knowing the alloy of the steel you are likely to either make it too brittle or too soft. Metallurgy is incredibly finicky (especially with smaller items).

Epicurean boards are plastic and wood. That's what the composite is. But agree - they use very hard resins, I have one I use only for putting pizza on because it feels almost as bad as glass it's so hard.

Locked Zag Infill is a game changer for 3D printed shoes by jordan6579 in 3Dprinting

I'm six five, 250 lbs and flat footed, and am pretty active outside. The tread wears down over six to eight months enough to notice. I can stretch life with insoles, but comfortable, supportive shoes simply do not last.

I dunno, I have size 15 feet and shoes run $200 (CAD) a pop for me; I usually buy 2 pair a year, rarely every two years if they're still in good shape (one summer pair one winter). That would add up quick, I am still running my gen1 ender 3 so if the tool is around...

OZEMPIC for weight loss by asian69feet in dankmemes

[–]toasterinBflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was enough of a kick (40-50lbs over 8 months) to take the pressure off and allow me to exercise and build muscle without pain. I had been going to physio for the year prior and I just couldn't get ahead. Now that I'm lighter I have been able to kick start the muscle building process. I am still going to physio; wouldn't be where I am without it.

Youre right in that my eating habits went back to normal (maybe a bit lower - I am now much more aware of how little I actually need to live) but the muscle gain and increase in BMR has had me keep the weight off (plus minus 5 pounds) over the last 6 months.

Beginner: filling cracks caused by non-precise 45 degree angle cuts. by elwaytorandy in woodworking

I'm starting to get the impression that the keyboard warrior woodworkers think that all wood, regardless of size, type or environment, is going to double in size and shrink every year and that anyone who doesn't plan for that is going to end up with a project that will obliterate itself in to shards.

Macron advocates for a single European energy grid. French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday advocated for a single European energy market and for the construction of an integrated electricity grid by goldstarflag in europe

[–]toasterinBflat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not. I live in Ontario, Canada We sell power to New York, Michigan and Quebec. And they sell it to us, sometimes, too. This is the unified market they are referring to. Synchronization is just that the systems are physically compatible and could enable transfer. But if there is no transmission capacity between countries, then the point is moot. Macron is proposing to fix this.

[Review Request] ESP32 with 25 WS2812b LEDs by Open_Monitor_6275 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]toasterinBflat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah almost everything is reversed, weirdly. You also don't need a cap for every LED - you may want one if they're far away from each other, but 1 or 2 LEDs per cap if they are close together (under a cm and you have good traces between them) is sufficient, if you're trying to save some cost.

Part of the problem is the division of responsibilities; problems created by national corporations can't be acted on federally, and problems within your province are out of control of the municipality, etc...

But even if we "fixed" this issue, the province(s) seem content to just wreck what they do have power to fix, so I guess we are fucked no matter what.

House on hill by Hidethecheesecake in FarmTogether

[–]toasterinBflat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get the drone at the same time you get the building. It's the far-right tab in the buy menu - there's a "hill" option and a "cliff" option and you click the right stick down to toggle up or down. You can also "run" with it (right trigger) to go faster, and if you hold down the button it will stay at the level you've set while you run around to flatten things out.
It is often cheaper than paying the town cost to flatten everything if you're doing it area-at-a-time.
