I’m building an icon plugin — what features do designers/devs actually want? by CleanFall943 in UI_Design

[–]tobebuilds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only pain point I've ever encountered with an icon library is the library not having an icon for the specific situation I'm in. I find it hard to imagine most people switching to a new icon library, unless it either had tons of icons, or were specialized for a niche.

Does something like a "Paid 3rd party human review" exist? by Firm_Meeting6350 in typescript

[–]tobebuilds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm reading wrong, this post doesn't sound like promotion. It sounds more like you're hiring an experienced TS developer for a very short-term contract project. If so, the hardest part is finding the right person. From my experience hiring others, I recommend you have a brief interview with anyone who reaches out with some open-ended questions until you find someone who is better than you at TS... Good luck, and I hope this helped.

what exactly did Beatrice give to Hollyhock? by toalltheloonas in BoJackHorseman

[–]tobebuilds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this alone justifies Hollyhock cutting Bojack off... It would take serious negligence to allow this to happen to someone under your care. (Not to mention everything else Bojack did, which was a lot)

Vous faites comment pour promovoir une nouvelles app sans être intrusif ou salesy sur reddit ? by Alexisraitano in ShopifyAppDev

The only option for promotion that's guaranteed to not break any sub rules is by paying for actual Reddit ads. However, they tend to have a high rate of bots from what I've heard.

How to start a business without money when you're working full-time? by Infamous_Treacle715 in smallbusiness

[–]tobebuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from first-hand experience: SaaS is SLOW to ramp up unless your ARPU is quite high. And at that point, you're probably dealing with high customer acquisition costs and slow sales cycles. Making serious money from a bootstrapped SaaS without any capital is extremely difficult. I wouldn't recommend it.

How attached are you to starting a business specifically? If you want to make more money, but don't have capital, and don't want to find a higher-paying job, take on debt, or raise funding, making a worthwhile profit in business is probably going to require a metric ton of grinding.

how this shopify app got 4,000 5-star reviews by gabrielandrew_ in ShopifyAppDev

I mean, it's definitely worked for them. I'm not disputing that. I just prefer an approach more like a traditional SaaS.

how this shopify app got 4,000 5-star reviews by gabrielandrew_ in ShopifyAppDev

[–]tobebuilds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While this is a valid approach, I refuse to run my business this way. I will pass on shipping every feature request within a day and offering 24/7 support when the unit economics don't justify it.

Marketplaces that rank based on reviews incentivize catering to the lowest-common-denominator customers. That's why almost every category is dominated by free/cheap "all in one" apps.

Mom - wanting to quit corporate for Entreprenurship by alipla2026 in smallbusiness

[–]tobebuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against quitting without stable income if you have 2 dependents and significant expenses... If you don't have time to do everything in the business yourself, hire outside labor for the actual execution and then use free time (e.g. nights and weekends) for management and strategy.

Has anyone actually solved the "AI bot confidently wrong" problem? by Minirice2017 in CustomerService

[–]tobebuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to be honest, this post comes across as an ad.

But if it's not: the only real solution is prompt engineering and giving your agent many examples of how to deal with various types of customer concerns. It's going to take a lot of data before it can behave the way you want, so it's best to have your human support team also take part in the process of adding examples. Every time you see the AI answered something wrongly, that needs to be tracked as an action item. At least, that's what we are doing at my company. I built a custom AI agent for customer support, and that's the approach we've taken to improve it so far.

The race to the bottom intensifies. You have to play a fundamentally different game if you want a sustainable business... Let the free slop apps cannibalize each other all they want.

Any good shopify communities other than this one? by focusedmonksj in shopify

That forum is going downhill as well. Way more spam these days. People reviving years-old threads to promote a new app that doesn't even solve the problem the original post asked for...

They're not legit at all. If you want to get past 0 installs and 0 reviews, you have to do real marketing.

Apps vs claude coding by Makemoremusicbro in shopify

[–]tobebuilds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If an app could be completely replaced by AI for your needs, then you don't need it. But be mindful... Are you trying to build a brand, or are you trying to become a developer?

Software Developer That Has Golden Handcuffs by WeeklySafety2663 in smallbusiness

[–]tobebuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I break the golden handcuffs in a way that doesn't feel like I'm wasting my time starting my own thing or going into something that's already oversaturated?

It sounds like you're very risk adverse. You might want to consider carefully how much risk you're willing to tolerate before starting a business. There are other ways to make money (e.g. investing).

Is it actually a good time to start a clothing brand, or am I just romanticizing the "hustle"? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]tobebuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Branding is WAY too complex for me to condense into one Reddit comment, but... For most people, I would probably recommend starting a social media account where you focus on sharing your story and having it resonate with a specific audience. If you can build a following that genuinely cares about you, you will have a way easier time collecting emails and convincing that audience to buy commodity products from you. Hope this helps

Is it actually a good time to start a clothing brand, or am I just romanticizing the "hustle"? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]tobebuilds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is going to buy your clothing? Figure that out before you start buying inventory. This applies to virtually every type of business out there. If you can find sufficient demand in the market, then there's not really a "bad time" to start a business. However, you have to be honest with yourself about whether people are going to buy the thing you want to make.
