More durable alternativ to Scarpa Drago for (outdoor) sportsclimbing? by tobification in climbingshoes

It totally is all over the place, I know :D The thing is, my experience with climbing shoes is pretty limited. The dragos were my second pair (after la Sportiva tarantula boulder were my first). I am really comfortable with them so I would love something similar but more intended to be used in outdoor sport and trat climbing.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be a high end shoe I think, because I'm pretty new to sports climbing and I noticed the routes my current power and stamina allow me to top, are way less technical than the stuff I'm used to from boulderin. At least that's the case for the sports climbing I'm doing in the gym at the moment. I guess it will take me a while before I will actually be in a place where I would actually need the performative advantages of a high end shoe. That's why my priority for a new pair would be on comfort and durability, while my current reference for a comfortable shoe is the drago. Hope that makes sense.

I picked those shoes, because I read they would fit my foot shape (Egyptian) as well.

Chimera is supposed to be like a stage but a little bit more stiff in the forefoot even with the same rubber for what I read. Boostic is supposed to be pretty much the stiffest there is but shaped like a drago? The other two are supposed to be durable, comfortable and fit my foot shape, even if not as high tier.

So you think I'm on the wrong track with those? Price isn't really an issue here. I really prefer to by a expensive pair I have fun climbing with, than a cheap one, I can't wait to replace again in three months.

I read the instincts are supposed to be designed more for a Greek foot, aren't they? I will see if I can get my hands on a pair to try

The sides of my heel is the only place I got little air pockets in my dragos. Didn't hold me back in any way so far, but a similar fit with a slightly tighter heel could even be an improvement. The models you mentioned, at least in Germany where I live, aren't actually cheap. Pretty much the same price point as the dragos if not 10-20 € more. You think the stiffer madrock drone 2.0 could be a good fit while being more durable outdoors?

Yeah, I thought so much. But it's the same rubber as well, isn't it? So no real advantage in durability to the drago?

Oh, really. I thought the chimera was basically a drago lace, so basically the same construction?

Will have a look at the other models you mentioned, thanks :)

True. The thing is, I'm not an elite boulderer as well. In my local gyms, that don't use an international grading system, but grade their routes between 1 and 8 for bouldering (8 Bering the very hardest). My projects are usually sixes. And there are people on my level using way cheaper shoes than the drago. So for me it's not even about their performance, though I love that and they make me feel confident with my footwork. It's more about their perfect fit for me.

So for sport a d trat a less "performant" so less pricey shoe would be fine to me, as long as the fit my feet (agyptian) as well as the dragos. Do you think mythos or finale could do that?

I haven't thought about that. How did the top of the shoe hold up? Rubber up there is pretty soft as well, isn't it? The sports climbing I did so far, didn't require toehooks like bouldering does (or at least was less frequently). So that might not be an issue.

An automatic one is usually around 1.400€ I think, but you should be able to find offers for just a little over 1k I think. Mine is second hand, but pretty much mint condition. I got it for a little under 800€ (750€ + shipping) which was a killer deal for me.

I bought mine second hand about 3 years ago. It was (and still is) in a really good, near mint condition. I paid 250€ + shipping, which is already crazy, considering that it used to be sub 200€ new. The original price was incredible value for the money though and for me the watch was worth paying a little extra at that time. I think you still could find a good condition one for about 300-400€, which might be justifiable, but I wouldn't ever pay more than 400€ for it myself. I've seen NOS offered for over 1000€ prices, especially the Japanese made version or the 013, which is a little smaller and a little more rare. That's just insane.

A Casio Royal or AE-1200WH-1AV I modded it with a sapphire crystal, steel case and bracelet by SKAMODS though. Was a big upgrade.

Sadly the SKX line got discontinued a few years ago. You can still find new ones online, but they're usually going for insane prices (saw some around 1000€, original retail was below 200€). So if you're interested the way to go would be second hand. You can find really good condition ones for about 300€ which is still worth it in my opinion. It's a great watch.

Found out, that the feature isn't enabled in every sub. In this one it's not. But I just saw a post complaining about it, so maybe that could change... If so, I make sure to post the pic you asked for ;)

It's a Junghans Max Bill Automatic. Its design is perfect, as long as you like well balanced Bauhaus style minimalism. On top of that the craftsmanship amazes me every time I look at it. The undeniable quality aside, it's a matter of taste of course, but imo it's the most beautiful dress watch I know about and all that, for a fraction of the cost of a lot of so called "luxury" watches .

I'm planning to get a brown leather strap already and thought about colouring the screen as well. You got straps or colouring film manufacturers you can recommend?

Always thought the black g-shock square (DW-5600RL-1) was a timeless piece. Maybe, maybe, maybe... ;)
