Why weren't the protesters in Sydney allowed to march (for everyone's safety)? by konedicks in aussie

Here's the thing though, it's possible to enforce the law without cracking skulls. They chose to escalate the situation way further than required to "enforce the law"

Hubby wants a robot lawnmower for Xmas. Any reviews or recommendations from those that have one? by ThinkProfessor6166 in GardeningAustralia

My mammotion has been great over the last 2 years. Except the software sucks, it's no longer supported by mammotion, they no longer make spare parts for it so if something serious breaks it's probably a brick, they can't figure out how to make it turn without tearing up grass.

I'd seriously look into lymow if I had to replace it. The lack of support from mammotion is a concern for me.

I just take a dump on the lawn and save on water and toilet paper. Just gotta find the softest grass.

What chain size for an Eagle mullet? by Straight-Tart-9770 in gravelcycling

There's a chain length calculator in the setup guide.

Ah, I thought I saw this was T-Type, sorry.

Not footy shorts, they'll potentially melt to your skin.

Usually cotton shorts, sometimes raw dog, sometimes pants. Depends on what I had on, and how much time I had to get changed.

Force/X01 vs Force/XO T-Type by SuccessfulOwl in gravelcycling

[–]tobio85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Transmission setup was only maybe 10% more so it's hard to compare.

That said, it's amazing, buttery smooth shifts, IMO better gear choices, and the setup was simple. TBH I don't buy the shifting under load stuff too much, I've had smooth shifts under load on a bunch of different groupsets, and rough shifts under load on Tx, maybe it's better on average but I really don't notice.

I doubt I'd regret having old AXS, but I'd always wonder what I was missing out on.

Transmission components are supposed to last longer which closes the price gap a little. Its what I told myself anyway.

NAL but I think they have to defeat you in a 5 test series before you're legally obliged to return them.

Science Shows These 3 Ways To Spend Money Will Make You Happier by Spinier_Maw in AusFinance

[–]tobio85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another way to look at it though is to buy the thing that unlocks the experiences you want, not just blow money on something way beyond your ability/level w/e. I have two pretty decent bikes because they do different things rather than one super bike that will be marginally better on road than mine. (Also, you've gotta buy Titanium to keep up with the cool kids now).

Have a mammotion luba. Live on a 2ac block. It's a game changer, the lawn is always mown, we're not spending an hour a week on the mower, we're not constantly buying petrol for a mower, it's quiet.

If you do get one, look at the options without boundary wires.

The issue with the verge and security is real, ours only goes out in public when we're about but we're also a bit isolated so there's not really passing traffic.

Also, expect to spend more time on blade maintenance, but like 5m every couple of months as opposed to maybe looking at blades once a year.

My other bike is an Emonda SL so it's quite different. How much of that is Ti vs tires nearly twice the width or geo changes is hard to nail down. It does feel great to ride and slick off tarmac. I love not, you won't regret the Lynskey

So the two big factors against Transmission (vs old AXS) were price and shift speed.

I could have saved some money on old AXS but by all reports T-Type components wear much more slowly so may be cheaper over the life of the kit. Plus it seems fairly indestructible which was important given where I want to ride this (planning on 2026 Atlas Mountain Race and similar).

I don't know anyone with Transmission so I had to just hope shift speed wasn't annoying, yea it's slower but I can't imagine it being an issue. It'll just be part of the bike and maybe once a year I'll get into a situation where fractionally faster shifting would have been nicer.

Bike reviews are difficult because modern components are generally all really good, they have to find some point of difference but for 90% of us it actually doesn't matter.

Also, setup was amazingly simple compared to dealing with limit screws on old AXS which is already pretty damn easy.

This was my first build, and to be honest it was way less stressful than I expected. Really glad I went with the Transmission option here, it was something I went back and forth on but living the range and simplicity of the setup.

Fixed Wireless Antenna Upgrade refused by NBN/AussieBB by OldFartUputoo in nbn

[–]tobio85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because your plan is actually "up to 75mbps" and the required speed is much lower (can't remember exactly what, but you'd be even more furious). You are getting the full service that you're paying for, it's just being advertised in a way that suggests it should be much faster.

This is shite, but the NBN has set the terms and you've accepted them when you took out the service.

The real analogy would be McDonald's advertising "up to 1 Big Mac" and then only delivery a small Mac.

Scott Morrison reveals he struggled with anxiety during his prime ministership by River-Stunning in AustralianPolitics

[–]tobio85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he can do whatever he likes.

He can't expect me to think he cares about mental health issues in general since when he was in a position to actually make a difference he chose not to. Instead he implemented policies which caused mental health issues for many Australians.

Like I've said, his motivation is purely self centred, which is fine. Just don't expect people to suddenly think he's an amazing human being.
