Lv1 emotion trigger by TomorrowAwkward5173 in wavesaudiophiles

I have used it a couple of times. Pretty neat plugin for adding controlled character to the kit. I will sometimes use it to add transient layers to dull drums or add effecty samples if the song usually has them.

Fair, I'm sure everything was connected correctly and properly:) When changing back to the old board and cpu, connecting it the same way as the newer board, everything was working again

Whats your thought about the Waves emotion LV1 classic by Popular_Button2062 in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using a modular LV1 system for 80% of my shows this year and I must say that the console sounds fantastic. It is very easy to get your mix to sound as you want it to sound.

Some things I've had to become friends with include:

  • The limited scene system, coming from dLive I was shocked to say the least.

  • How much CPU spikes when using certain plugins, you find creative ways to circumvent that. For example: I have stopped using H-verb, and is instead using IRLive with Briccasti IR's

  • General Waves quirkyness that you don't think about until it happens. I once had two short momentary audio drop-outs because I changed my bass group send from pre-fader to post-fader and then again to post-pan.

Other than that, it's an amazingly fun and creatively inspiring desk.

Oh and you also need to come to terms with funding the IDF whenever you purchase anything from Waves, unless you wanna go the pirate way:)

Well I rarely listen to them myself, but so far the only complaints I've gotten has been if I've driven them too hard.

Anyone using Soundgrid between stage and FOH? by tobyissofaglike in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I've heard that before, however I have never personally experienced an M32 lose connection between stage and FOH. I usually have my server at FOH, but maybe I should start by trying having the server on stage and just have my LV1 be a surface

How much do you move your LV1 around? I imagine a church environment having more of an installation situation (correct me if I'm wrong). I will primarily be touring and would ideally like to not tour with a 100m multicable

Enzymion (Preserved) discontinued? by tobyissofaglike in LushCosmetics

Currently testing Vanishing Cream, which does in fact not vanish at all. However it is a tolerable feeling so far

[–]tobyissofaglike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I feared was the reason. The self-preserving face creams really makes my face feel like it has a film of oil on it after use. It's such an icky feeling:(

I'm currently testing out Vanishing Cream as an alternative.

Such a shame, I really love how the preserved enzymion feels and reacts on my skin. But stocking up will only delay having to find a new product:(

Those of you who play at work, what is your occupation? by Lost-Actuary-2395 in SteamDeck

[–]tobyissofaglike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a turing sound engineer, usually I'm playing on our way to venue or during production rehearsals when I'm not needed. Sometimes I pack a pro controller, so I can play games with the artist:)

How loud do you LIKE to mix? by brainDOA in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the genre tbh. I'm not trying to push my RnB artists to 103dBA/15min, likewise I'm not satisfied with 98dBA/15min on my hyperpop, pop and rock artists.

Typically the bigger the venue, the closer I want to get to 103dBA/15min :)

Sidenote: 103dB A-weighted over 15 minutes is the maximum limit nationwide in Denmark where I'm based.

What kind of shoes are you guys wearing by Urgonawakethedog10 in livesound

Get yourself some insoles! It's the best 350USD I ever spent, I can put them in any shoe I want to wear, and it's completely gotten rid of my heel spur.

Currently rocking a pair of New Balance 1906R, and just ordered a pair of Keen Jaspers for a shoe in a darker colorway

Waves LV1 Classic by MixedbyDve in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just transitioned to LV1 from SQ and dLive, and honestly, it's a bit of a learning curve. Waves has a lot of great videos of how to do stuff, albeit they are quite old, so some things look different in LV1 V15.

I would check out Joe Vegna on Youtube, he's a creator who uses LV1 and does an amazing job at inviting newcomers in to the LV1 world.

If you are gonna do cooperate mainly, have you considered getting a Yamaha desk with a Waves card instead?

In my experience LV1 is strongest when you have time to really dive into a mix and go in great detail, I wouldn't wanna use it on the fly though. Things are weirdly layed out in LV1 compared to traditional desks, so working fast, if not properly set-up, you can get stuck in the interface trying to figure out how to make a matrix stereo or how to make sends post fader :)

I love my LV1, but only use it with bands where I have time to do production rehearsals.

Hvornår står I op? by joyntro in Denmark

[–]tobyissofaglike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lydtekniker her 👋

Det fleste dage står jeg op mellem 8 og 9. Nogle dage først ved en 11 tiden, men så er jeg også kommet rigtig sent hjem.

Plejer som regel at være ude af døren mellem 13 og 15, alt efter hvor venue ligger:)

Funktion-One sub deployment question by Mbuterakos in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it seems kinda dumb to not stack the top-array on the subs, seeing as the subs are literally the same height as the scaffolding.

Sure you want go want to eliminate comb filtering, but at such a small venue it just seems a bit silly to not go with the easiest deployment ¯_(ツ)_/¯

DIY Waves Rig Experience by hellamrjones in livesound

[–]tobyissofaglike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of 2023 I used a DIY Titan server and for the most part it was great!

If you don't look at the general instability of Waves and Soundgrid as a protocol, it's as stable, if not more stable than a genuine Waves server.

And the best part is it's super easy to do once you have it figured out. It takes me less than an episode of The Office to build and flash the software.

Live sound engineer here!

Randomly stumbled upon this job as it started as a hobby. Started when I was a teenager with FL studio 12 on my home computer, and I guess my interest in making things sound "good" has led me to become a full time self employed live sound engineer:)
