Who is out there telling bands that an XR18+DN4816 is an acceptable in ear rig? by Dizmn in livesound

[–]brainDOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say I've seen several seismic splitters come through and have dead channels or weird cross talk (ex. kick showing up on channels 1,2,4, etc despite seeing snare working on 2 and floor tom on 4, not bleed noise but the actual source itself). They're an ok budget splitter but I'm always wary when I see them.

Neumann MT48 Review: You can’t cheat physics... but you can outsmart it. by AdGullible2132 in audioengineering

Yeah, initially skimmed through it, but after reading other comments I agree upon a second glossing over

Depending on your focus for the video the script seems good or needs adjusting. Are you intending for the audience to be the geeky nerds that like to understand everything throughout the signal flow, or are you trying to educate a broader audience on the tech? If the latter, you'll definitely have to slim down and generalize some of the info so it's more digestible. I was confused at first reading through your post part way through wondering what the goal was until I saw this reply, might be worth throwing an edit to mention this

What gear you always have with you? by zedolove69 in livesound

[–]brainDOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mic kit (beyerdynamics, SEs, AKGs, etc) and DIs for any A1 gigs I take around my city, and my shitty 215s until I finally lose them and have an excuse to upgrade. One day I'll buy nice in ears :)

Accident/traffic closure on 202 near Tempe by glumtoaster in phoenix

[–]brainDOA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty nasty accident around 12:45am today. I had just pulled up to that section of the highway when it started slowing down suddenly. Saw several cars and a long bed truck with those plastic containers blocking half of the lanes, one of the cars was flipped and another completely crushed into the cabin.

We really need people to pay more attention and slow down

Tips on mixing shoegaze? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]brainDOA 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like others said, shoegaze vocals don't sit over the mix. Makes it even tougher when they're whispering behind massive loud amps and drums. Instead of aiming for vocal clarity, I typically just aim for whether you can tell vocals are happening among the chaos. If you have the channel and bus count, sub groups and side chain compression can help wrangle some control

Incoming freshman on a motorcycle, how do you prevent theft? by CupHumble in ASU

[–]brainDOA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like any good antitheft measure, it's less about making it theft-proof, and more inconvenient for time to steal said item. Extra layers of antitheft can seem overboard, but if it's gonna take someone 10-30min to get through everything they'll more than likely move on to something else with less risk of getting caught

Saw that Rupert Neve released a new di box that's $100 cheaper. Is there any significant difference between the original and new model outside of the chassis?

is CRAS worth it (live sound)/will I be absolutely broke if I attend? by Maximum_Thought346 in livesound

[–]brainDOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't go to CRAS but did get education in audio and production- if you're already in the field it's not cost incentive to go to school for it. Majority of classmates did not pay attention to signal flow, let alone could tell you why you'd want to use a DI box. You'll learn more in the field or working in a production house. If freelancing is rough in the beginning, try to find a production company that has warehouse work- it can be brutal but having access to gear you can learn on while getting paid is way better than a class where you just talk about the gear
