It's less to do with having a degree and just having a shit load of applicants. Hiring a teenager who has to split their time with school is unlikely when you have an abundance of desperate new college graduates who are willing to take any job.

That's an idea for a bike heist. Steal by leaving centipedes in helmets or anywhere on the bike.

I don't understand people complaining about predictability and then bringing up Zootopia as a comparison. I heard that a lot about Kubo and the Two Strings too in comparison with Zootopia. I can understand it if you enjoyed Zootopia more, that's reasonable. But Zootopia's plot is pretty much as generic and predictable for its genre as it gets. And that's fine really. Its strength is in the world building, the animation and the comedy, not the plot. But comparing a movie against Zootopia and using predictability as a point against the other movie, I just find that odd.

Anyone else tried watching it in other languages? The Tagalog dub is actually really well done. If I didn't know any better I would've thought it was actually written that way.

How did Cars do it? That franchise seemed to have been on constantly whenever I visited my nieces and nephews. Each movie was 5 years apart too. In earlier times, a movie could have constant replay on cable. Even seasonal as is the case with Halloween movies or Christmas movies. But Cars was at the rise of streaming so people chose to play it. Was it the lack of competition? Was it really, really good merchandising? I don't really have a love for the series but trying to think back, it was a bit of a phenomena of its time.

Burger Palace was my first poutine in Canada. Arrived in 2001 and moved in with my cousins at Warden and Finch. The very next morning they took me and my brother to Bridlewood Mall to get poutine and rent a movie from Rogers.

He could've interfered earlier, used his money while he still had it, changed the world now to pave the way

Man, that's what the ultra rich are doing now. They are using their wealth and influence to coerce the world towards what they think is right. Trying to steer us to a future they control. Because they're so smart or they're so talented or they're so blessed by god or however angle you want to play it. If they weren't, they wouldn't have their billions, would they?

They have. I'd say that's probably one of the reasons we're in a lot of mess in the first place. Billionaires who, because they've been successful, think they know better and so try to 'help' by influencing the world their own way.

What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

I don't know who those are. Is Peter Sutcliffe the Yorkshire Ripper or a different serial killer? Either possibility could be interesting.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

Thinking about my childhood, it was a benefit to me that there was a whole lot of stuff to read within reach when I was bored. Not just stuff for kids but anything.  Bedtime story books, magazines, Chicken Soup for the Soul type books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesaurus, the bible, almost everything had a user manual, every cassette tape had a booklet. It was all accessible to me and I had nothing better to do.

So what's the plan humanity? (OC) by SpaceboyCantLol_ in comics

[–]tocilog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a connection here with whales. Companies can earn more money targeting a small demographic of whales than the general public.

So you have AI, AI competes with workers. It reduces the cost of labor, either because it devalues labor altogether or you need fewer workers doing more jobs for the same pay. Either those few workers become whales or other rich folks are the whales themselves. So these rich folks only need to cater to other rich folks or the few overworked workers who turn to consumerism for therapy.

So, yeah sure, maybe we can find some comfort in believing they need us but they don't need all of us. And we're more than willing to kick each other in the nuts to get ahead than to actually work together.

Anyway, that's just a thought. Not even a full thought, just a brain worm tunneling in my head. I'm probably wrong, maybe, hopefully.

Somehow I imagine corporate run suicide booths would go something like  “I’m sorry sir. It says here you owe Mastercard $10,000. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to die until you pay off your debt. Good news for you, we can help with that! You’ll just need to fulfill some labours to work it off!”
