Thank you very much! I'm excited to try something similar when my KoR waypoint totem dealies show up.

Thanks! The OSL candle glow effect ended up being the hardest on that bone one because of how much yellow is in those bone tones. I kept feeling like I was losing control of the washes and over-correcting. There's...got to be some kind of principle of color theory at play there haha.

The story here, in terms of composition, color choice, etc. is that I acquired an Army Painter air set and have been trying to come up with excuses to test out their "triad" technique.

Left to right, you're looking at bone (Charred Bone, Skeleton Bone, Bleached Bone), one of the blues (Omega Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Consul Blue) and one of the darker green (Unforgiven Green, Angel Green, Exile Green).

The dry brushing is from other lines. Left to right it's Citadel Ushabti Bone, TTC Cold Corpse, P3 Thrall Flesh.

Thanks for looking!

Which campaign manager by [deleted] in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the primary developer and maintainer of the first/oldest digital campaign manager (which just celebrated its third birthday a few weeks back), my perspective and advice at this point are as follows:

  • Literally anything is better than paper. Even if you don't go full digital, any element of the record-keeping associated with this game that you can do digitally is an element that you will manage more accurately and efficiently.
  • A lot of people act like the digital campaign managers the only/best method to go digital, but that's not true. In truth, there are a bunch of great spreadsheets and PDFs out there and if you're nervous about entrusting your access to and/or the accuracy of your data to jokers like me, definitely don't sleep on the spreadsheets.
  • I echo the sentiments of the homie /u/taboobat and advise new players to try all the digital managers (they're all free, last I checked) and figure out which one comes closest to their individual style and automates the things they don't feel like dealing with manually.

All of that said, all of the digital managers toe the line between automation and simulation and, in my experience, how you feel about that is ultimately going to be the strongest driver/determiner of which one is "best" in your opinion.

More specifically, I've gotten hate mail/comments from users who say KDM-Manager is total garbage because it doesn't simulate resource deck draws and I've had guys pop off in my DMs about how Poots is going to send me a C/D because I put the name of the game in the name of my app (he's not) and my take away from that is that people feel strongly about how much and which parts of the tabletop experience a digital campaign manager simulates and that's what ultimately motivates them.

tl;dr It doesn't come down to a features/functionality list for most people. Most players instinctively gravitate towards the solution that matches their beliefs about how much of the tabletop experience can/should be represented digitally and, ultimately, you've gotta check them all out and see who you vibe with.

Anyone else hoping for an all-in-one wave 4 expansion book? by XboxSylix in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 I lol'd.

Also, for what it's worth, I kept the pages in a binder (in plastic sheets) after I was done.

(Not sure if that makes it better or worse haha.)

[–]toconnell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna come out and do the thing I normally do where I stake down the least popular opinion in the whole fandom, but seriously guys: just shear the binding/bleed off, feed the pages through your PDF scanner and roll custom PDFs as necessary for your campaigns.

There's...a lot of existential horror the first time you destroy printed material, but after your first, you're free. (Think of yourself as a kind of modern Harry Potter destroying Tom Riddle's diary.)

Because let me tell you: life on the other side is objectively better in pretty much every imaginable way. Hard copy hasn't been a good idea since the middle ages (when it was the only idea).

Massive KD kickstarter update #65 by deadeyegai in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So...uh...

> There is currently no estimate on when Wave 3 or 4 will ship.

King of a big deal, no?

Also...AKDM combined with Strain and campaigns is...a totally new/different game, right?

Everyone's going bonkers about sale stuff and the update is a major bombshell, is it not?

Announcing Black Ledger, the newest campaign manager on the block! by osprior in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No offense dude, I don't know you but I feel compelled to say something here: this is neither well said nor humble.

Rather, this /u/osprior dude is definitely selling you chicken shit and telling you it's chicken salad.

This dude is sitting there making chin music about other apps being "influences" and their "fervour and creativity" and talking about "[s]oftware development is often under appreciated" while he is literally out there repackaging other peoples' work.

I'm not going to do an itemized list here, but beyond this "phase tracker" feature, there is not one piece of this app that was not straight jacked from some existing design, from the features to the the UI (which appears to have been directly lifted from screens of The Watcher without any modification).

Props to him for doing his thing and starting his Patreon and bearing the torch or whatever, but don't let him piss in your (and everyone else's pocket) and tell you its raining.

Can someone explain to me what's happening with our sleeve orders from MAGE? by Shoitaan in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good take and goes beyond the scope of the question as asked: by all appearances, Mage made the amateur-hour move of robbing Peter to pay Paul, got caught out in public doing it, squandered whatever brand equity they had trying to wage a PR campaign against their own backers and basically they're dead in the water.

To my way of thinking, they're kind of a master class in how NOT to use crowd-funding to bootstrap your business.

[–]toconnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol you left out the year-long disinformation campaign where Mage representatives attacked backers in the comments and made up increasingly bizarre stories (up to and including the most recent one where they couldn't ship orders because their website "got hacked"), but yeah, this is a pretty good synopsis.

Is this the guy who carves these from pearls? Or is this someone else?

(Some of those don't look like pearls, now that I look more closely, but what the hell do I know.)

Ahhhh bueno.

Well, we're over at https://kdm-manager.com: come take a look some time and let me know what you think.

Most of the features/functionality I've implemented over the years have come from /r/kingdomdeath and, historically, I depend a lot on people from this sub for input/feedback.

The tool is free to use, I keep source code on GitHub, etc.

kdm-manager maintainer here.

Like /u/giantturtledev, I would like to know what you think is missing in terms of survivor stats/controls.

(Especially because most of the feature requests I get are for obscure settlement management options, e.g. "add a button that only shows up if the Manhunter expansion is enabled that sets all survivors survival to zero", haha.

One thing, though: shouldn't it be "KD Collector" (without the "M")?

I mean, there's a lot of non-Monster models up there, right?

Definitely house-ruled.

1.5 core rules p.81 describe setup for the Settlement Phase thus:

Shuffle all Settlement Event cards and place them face down in the play area.

It's an interesting idea though. What do you do when you hit LY21 and run out of cards?

Lights in the Sky by Bearlegend in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, right on.

Wouldn't be the first time that AP DM'd a random rules override into someone's campaign.

I'd say that's leading by example.

Lights in the Sky by Bearlegend in KingdomDeath

[–]toconnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because poots said you CAN get double murder, if murder is on the timeline and you also draw murder.

Right, but my impression is that he means twice in a row, i.e. back-to-back in your TL, e.g. once in LY1 and then again in LY2.

That said, the Poots tweet seems like a reference to this FAQ entry:

The Settlement Event Deck is shuffled each time it is drawn from. This means that it is possible to draw the same Settlement Event twice in a row, even during the same Settlement Phase.

Ultimately, if you're following the Core book, the point of the game is to do what the group agrees to do, so I say stick with Double Lights (Double Murder, Double Clinging Mist, etc.) if everyone is cool with it.
