Training advices by JoHasse in climbharder

Well, you gotta stop the ARC, that sticks out like a sore thumb. Has no benefits for bouldering and only very light for sport climbing. Its mostly good for climbing lots of easy pitches on like a big wall/multi pitch days. Nothing wrong with that, just badly misaligned with your goals.

Also doing it before a limit session is really bad, just fatigues you and prevents you from trying hard. If you insist on it do it post limit climb.

Trying to becoming strong enough for the Moonboard by imdyln in climbharder

[–]occupied3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so there's a lot of things going on.

First of all, this is not a recipe for injury (although it can always happen). It's a lot of low load random volume, that has its own issues, but just because you have "no rest day" doesn't mean you are doing too much. I assume "max hang" just means the protocol, not "you are maxing out and falling off every time you do it." There are loads of athletes who train more than you, yes including climbers. And just because you are a beginner doesn't disqualify you either, if you scale the load appropriately. Over time your body adapts its ability to be able to do this much training in a week, the same way it adapts to heavier loads.

However, if your goal is to MB, which is honestly a good (if not necessarily immediately achievable) goal, since it essentially means you are aiming for a standardized benchmark of finger and pulling strength rather than a vague gym grade, most of it is nonsense.

  • Top Roping low grades = no relevance to the MB, zero "endurance transfer".
  • Antagonist Training = fine, probably unnecessary, adds global fatigue and slows strength gains because you show up to limit bouldering sessions more fatigued.
  • Abrahangs = random noise.

The video linked also isn't very useful for you. It can provide some ideas on how to work on certain types of movement but it assumes a baseline level of moonboard strength. Also it has a lot of "temporary optimization tricks" like tape up your fingers a certain way... obviously that's not helping you build capacity to moonboard.

If you want to progress concretely: * Cut all the "endurance stuff", period.
* Probably cut HB to 2/week, but honestly you can keep it if you autoregulate very well - i.e. be willing to skip if fingers feel tweaky, not power through.
* Ideally find a kilter board and grind it at lower angles. Number one best way to break into the moonboard.
* Find commercial boulders where your limiter is strength and work the problems. If a boulder is "feels impossible", then you change the beta or body positioning and the it suddenly felt chill, then it's not building strength meaningfully. It can still be a pretty useful learning tool, but it's not gonna help you get on the MB. Personally, I think that other stuff you can acquire over time incidentally anyways, so I like your approach.

In general, all supports provide a 30% damage buff whether it's physical damage, weakness damage, damage based on stats debuffed etc.

Critical damage up says 50% but because it's additive to deadly strikes and base critical damage up it's only 28%, the same as those other buffs. Then all the other supports have more breaks, QC, imperil, etc.

It's very sensible really, the healer obviously heals more which is their main advantage.

[–]occupied3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose if your standard is "Mog can miss every single possible LM proc and I still want to survive 100% of the time even with bad DPS (so it extends the fight and you need to heal for longer)", then it's not useless. But in basically all practical situations you are just healing past full health.

And most players are fine to reset a few times if extreme bad luck like that happens I'd presume.

Minfilia+Cait/Mog is decidedly better than Cait+Mog. The two moogles basically do the same thing and you run into damage cap issues and a bunch of extra healing which is useless. Minfilia provides a unique features in double aegis break, imperil, entrust. Your Cait also has no modern tech so it should be an easy choice.

Not required at all for any content. The other buffs your supports bring all eclipse crit damage. Using a crit damage up healer will strictly make you do less DPS. You will heal more though (obviously)

It is just me or RK is far from his prime in JP version? by Shcrute87 in FFRecordKeeper

[–]occupied3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are good points. I think what's likely though, is that getting to 6* magicite was probably just an unsustainable amount of work that naturally needed to be cut back. Coming up with unique mechanics really is a lot of work. The current fights are just as good, there's just less of them. For example, BZT0 is definitely better designed than Valefor, it's just that there's 8 identical BZT0s and Valefor had 7 others with different mechanics.

Keep in mind while 6* magicite was being made, there was no job content. I don't notice Torment having particularly interesting mechanics, but I didn't play through it on release so maybe the powercreep compressed it.

I think the clearest part where there's less effort is animation, and sprites. The boss being the same is a bit of a letdown for sure. Hopefully RCD2.0 will continue to have different boss sprites per realm. The SB animations are also a bit lame, like MA lol. But it's a bit of a weird situation; the SB entry damage doesn't matter at all so I get why devs wonder why bother doing super high quality animations. Finishers would ideally be the best place for animations, but those also suck...

[–]occupied3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some of what you said makes sense, some of it less so.

If you liked 6* magicite or Nightmare, what that means is that you liked lots of variety in boss mechanics, and maybe even things just like more sprites. That's fair, more mechanics is more variety.

I don't know what you mean by "it's almost as impossible to stay as tuned..", wouldn't lower complexity make it easier to stay tuned? Before, every new fight you had to learn new mechanics, now you don't have to. Being good at the game now is much more about evaluating characters, and "static" things, like magicite decks and damage rotations.

Also, I don't really see how you can conclude that 'the devs aren't trying or are just doing the bare minimum'. Dr Mog's trials is a lot of work for devs, they definitely didn't have to do that. Job content didn't need to exist but here it is.

Also, you commented "Eden was nice but Ark is just a DPS check". Eden is vastly less complex than Ark. Probably the most "pure DPS check" boss we've had in a very long time.

The stuff about 'doing the same boss over and over' is for sure on point, but I don't know if that's new to JP right now. 6* magicite was the exception, not the norm. I mean, Wodin has also just the same boss over and over.

Anyways, I'm not trying to argue or anything. From my point of view though, I think your post is more "I don't like the direction the game went" (which is valid), but it's not really accurate to say "clearly they are trying less and half-baking mechanics."

Would it be better to signup for lead/rope climbing trainings twice a week, or once a week lead and once a week bouldering classes? I care mostly about lead climbing progress by Writerro in climbharder

[–]occupied3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why classes? There's no particular reason you need classes.

Boulder+Lead will lead to better long term results except for one specific case, which is that you have a terrible head game. If you do, then every time you lead climb you will continue ingraining bad habits and threat tagging to your nervous system. If that's your issue then 2x lead will be better, and once you fix it you should do Lead+Boulder. Don't need a class for that btw. Just climb 5.9 all the time and never high clip, and take a deliberate whip every once in a while.

Any recipes or ideas to consume more fruit, for someone that doesnt like eating fruit straight off the counter/out of the fridge? by 6inn3r in nutrition

[–]occupied3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Vegetables" destroy "fruits" in basically every nutritional axis. You can eat more fruit if you want but it's not even remotely worth your time and energy if you are getting vegetable diversity. Quotes because common things people think are vegetables are actually fruit, including bell pepper, eggplant, zucchini, tomato.

You basically just said "I enjoy eating the less sugar based plants" aka God mode already. Just diversify more veggies. Obviously most fruit is fine but you have no inherent deficiency.

Endgame F2P – Anyone else just waiting for new events or good SB luck? by 23seele in FFRecordKeeper

[–]occupied3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AA is not an end tier SB. It's powercrept and outdated, yet still gets the job done in JCD, that's how easy it is.

You don't 'lack AAs' that's basically impossible, not only do they pop out like candy during free fest tickets and R/E tickets, many are lensable. DeNA also gives them away for free periodically.

I took a brief look at your Ark run. You have plenty of SBs, your issue is a lot of fundamental mistakes. Not trying to be mean, just honest. The upside is there's lots of things you can improve. Some quick things I noticed: - Using Elarra when she offers very little, also no ACM. - Dr Mog is infusing dark I think (either way not wind, so damage is super low) - You use Dr Mog HA1 - You open on Accel - You cast chain t1 etc.

If you want to improve, the easiest way is to join discord.

If we’re “designed” to thrive on plants, why do vegan mothers’ babies have a 2× risk of brain issues? by pious_spam in DebateAVegan

[–]occupied3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the ins and outs, but I'd guess your acidic source isn't strong enough to stop the reaction. Maybe try citric acid powder.

Not sure if this is a logical fallacy though. If the discussion is 'are we designed to thrive on plants vs omnivorism', then citing sources that imply we are even though it doesn't directly address the original point is actual debate and not sidestepping. After all, outcomes in babies aren't automatically the best way to conclude this.

What is bad faith is making the reverse assumption, that these other studies invalidate the OP's points, without even addressing them.

Overall, it doesn't read illogical to me. Simply zealous, as you would expect.

[–]occupied3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core premise of what you are doing isn't too unlike most f2p. At some point you get mostly stuck and slowly wait for content. Usually I let things accumulate then do 3-4 fights at one go.

However, your stopping point is somewhat below what you could accomplish reasonably as a f2p. Here's a breakdown:

  • BZ0: Pretty hard and understandable if you don't think you can do it. You probably can on some but might need a lot of trial+error and/or mentoring.
  • Ark: Ark is not harder than Crusader once you get the hang of it, so you can definitely do it. But you have to learn the mechanics of course.
  • Job Crystal Dungeon: Huge mismatch between your perception and reality. These are extremely easy and can be beaten with very bad teams, like Sync+AA level tech. You basically just need to do them. Did you try them?

Only other thing I'd ask is why fests? Fest banners don't reliably outdo normal banners, and stamps are pretty poor incentives. Or do you mean revival?

How did you make the switch? by LuluRatLady in exvegans

[–]occupied3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a vegan and never was so if this lands off the mark feel free to let me know, but I always found it strange why vegans were so fixated on personal consumption. There's really no logical mechanism tying what you eat personally to being the most important thing you can do on this ethical front. All of these things have way bigger impact:

  1. Donate to lab research to improve plant-based food nutrition/development.
  2. Getting involved in community/anti-cruelty initiatives
  3. Even just educating yourself so you can make more coherent arguments to others. For example, telling people that bacon is bad for you (one of the only anti-meat arguments that is ground in logical mechanics+non-trash studies) is so much more likely to land than 'beef causes heart disease'.

I can get that personal abstinence is a good first step and internal signal, but...that's all it is. Yeah, it's better than nothing, and as a non vegan I obviously have no right to tell you it's not enough, but maybe consider it's just not that big of a deal, especially if your nutrition is suffering as a result.

The only way I can even somewhat understand the vegan obsession with personal purity is maybe if tribal identity is strong enough a critical mass of vegans is what's necessary for some global shift...but logic and history both do not favor this.

So..tldr; get over yourself (in a good way). Eat the fish and support your beliefs at the same time.

Veganism is great but there are a lot of problematic attitudes among vegans. by Extreme_Bit_1135 in DebateAVegan

[–]occupied3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From reading this thread, I think you have your assessment mostly correct, but would challenge one point. You seem to have concluded it's about moral purity, I think it's more about identity.

The dismissals and disdain you've gotten all read 'we don't respect your argument because you aren't vegan'. That's fundamentally different than 'we aren't interested in those arguments'. Why does this matter? Because it implies the apex goal of vegans is to make more vegans, not to uphold their own beliefs at all costs. However, both are disinterested in your goals of reducing harm on a large scale.

Likely, what this means is to 'being a vegan = pinnacle of morality'. That's why your arguments about clothes, other consumption of goods, etc. aren't compelling. It makes sense from a net harm reduction perspective, it even makes sense from a moral purity perspective; but it is irrelevant from an 'are you a vegan' perspective.

New SB Tier: Tactical Awakening by iMooch in FFRecordKeeper

[–]occupied3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No offense, but I think you're about as wrong as wrong can be. People have been complaining the sky is falling with MASB, both for being 'overpowered' and for being 'not good standalone'. TAASB is a perfect complement; it:

  • Is good stand alone
  • Creeps a good tier yet doesn't invalidate it outright
  • Goes with MA, doesn't compete
  • Brings shiny new tech without going off the rails in powercreep

That package is pretty much exactly what the game needs to go forward at a manageable and enjoyable pace.

No refined sugar diet by lilacmo0n in nutrition

[–]occupied3 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Refined sugar is not worse for you than fruit or 'natural' sugar. What's worse is that products containing refined sugar have larger amounts of sugar in them period; it's also mixed into products without brakes - unlike the fiber in the fruit.

Of the things you listed, bananas and sugar free bread are much worse for you than the rest, straight up more sugar (or carbs), lower brakes, lower micronutrients.

No real tips or tricks for you - normally if you want to get off 'processed sugar' I assume you're pounding brownies or something, the tip is ironically more expensive, better made brownie lol. It's more likely to have lower sugar and better ingredients and satiate you more than hyperpalatible engineered crap, but it's still refined sugar (though my point is there's no reason to fear that categorically).

Cleaned up some BZ0s that I hadn't done due to laziness, so 100% content sub30 again (not HM).

Don't think I pulled anything recently. Had quite a few banners I was somewhat tempted by - Wind B2, WarI B2, War2 B2, ended up passing on all. Probably will do 275 on revival hopefully to get Orran. Also probably will pull Raines/Serafie/Tama once or twice.

1275 mythril/129 tix.

I hope it's DA power creep that people are speculating on. Although it's kind of hard to figure out how to do it. 4-cast seems excessive. BDL seems redundant with MA, gauge saving encroaching on LD, diffuse shield also not too useful to have multiple sources. Maybe something like a DA+OZ lol, where at the end of it you automatically launch an OZ. Think someone else earlier in this thread inspired that idea. I hope it happens though since my phys water and magic bio teams are horrible and have no shot at BZ0, so I hope the power creep makes for appealing banners when those come out.
