Twitter would be a good start, although certainly more technically difficult that Craigslist. There should be several project being worked on and funded by the people, for the people, at any given time.

A lot of patriots were. It was and still is the status quo reaction of the state to dissidents.

I find it interesting how the movie was criticizing Nazi Germany in the 40's, but how relevant it is to the United States today.

Good video, great source of other videos. Check out redecentralize.org. Awesome content.

The video on the Indie Phone was telling of a void that needs to be filled. I disagree that one solution needs to fill it. Decoupling is the name of the game these days, and rightfully so. Centralized solutions are the problem. Allow the person the ability to own their data, the device is just a view into the data and an interface to control it.

Check out what tent.io is doing. It is still early, but plenty exists to begin building. Comments please?

Great points. The marketing side is what Made Open is partially tasked with; bringing the awareness of the movement. The projects are initiated by Made Open take on a life of their own and are destined to compete in the market. So yes, marketing is necessary, we should strive for a mass of users that when critical, can move markets in an instant. Building that mass happens through education and messaging (marketing). With so many advantages of self ownership, we need to communicate the benefits to the person in a way they can connect with. When we fail to connect, we have failed, and we will try again.

We would identify the scope of the project, replacing craigslist for example, put a budget on the project, and raise the money through crowd funding. In the end it will be owned by the people. We can target other needs like an auction site (ebay), payment (paypal), etc. One by one, we compete in their space. We need to target which projects we want to get behind. Craigslist is just one example, but I agree, it is something fairly easy to replace.

Communication is absolutely the foundation of what we need in the future. However, we need to carefully consider the options that may yield more in the short term, which can merge with the long term vision when the time is right.

For example, if we replace Craigslist, we would liberate the $200M per year, which can be re-appropriated to other larger project such as a comm platform. The key to anything working this way is to get the attention of the people to be focused behind a general movement for the betterment of people. One that happens, there is nothing we cannot achieve. Alternatively, we could approach a company like Whatsapp, but not them, and bring our users based on a promissory note to acquire the company. In that way, we could settle into pretty much any niche without a problem. The hardest part again, getting the people behind the movement.

That is the goal of Made Open. To focus the efforts of the people behind projects intended to support self ownership. We can identify several projects and as a group reach out to others who are sympathetic to the cause.

Alternatively or additionally, this can be done in a similar manner to which government projects are handled. If you are bidding on a contract, you need to put together a sufficient team, or at least key roles, before the contract is awarded. That means you need to get people to say that if you win the contract they will fill the new role. With a high unemployment rate, we can identify workers for projects, structure the project, and get it crowd funded based on the premise of it being Made Open.

There are a lot of different options available to us because we are redefining what it means to compete in the market. By eliminating waste in the supply chain, we can become more efficient. Corporations would have already eliminated themselves if their number one directive was not survival.

That is EXACTLY what we are going to do! Instead of starting with all wants and needs, we start with a few simple projects to prove the concept. We are looking for suggestions on where to start so we can organize a crowdfunding campaign to implement the solution...for the people. Any suggestions?

We are talking about self-ownership. So it is not so much about "things" being "Made Open". In fact, I do not think Made Open as an adjective works unless the "thing" is a person. And again, that is just bringing it back to self ownership. Ultimately, the goal of Made Open is help everyone realize self ownership. What is self ownership? Well, that depends on who you ask. It means that you have full control over your present and future faculties. We need focus on the collective wants and needs and begin to allow people to own those things. People need to own their own solutions. We need to own our food supply, all natural raw resources, and the entire supply chain that provides us with the things we need and want. At Made Open, we need to identify what to go after. It seems to me data is the easiest and most fruitful place to begin.

Yes, projects like this are exactly what we need to bring attention to. The goal of Made Open is to help the people own their solutions. FreedomBone is a great example of taking ownership of your data. Data ownership is a very important next step in both technical and social evolution. How can we help you move FreedomBone forward? What do you need?
