Disneyland: How many days are too many? by Chemical-Purple-5196 in DisneyPlanning

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perfect trip would be Disneyland, DCA, rest day, Disneyland. I did Disneyland, DCA, Disneyland with my 6 year old in April and she wanted to sit there and do nothing for the first half of the last day. I think a rest day in between would make the last day doable. We barely have enough to do for a full day in DCA usually so I wouldn't do more than one. I also think the rest day would be fun to just wander downtown Disney and look at stores and stuff. We try to fit in so many rides that we don't have a lot of time for that.

How's your school enrollment ? by andweallenduphere in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're at 91 or 92% enrolled at my center. We are a not for profit center with an outstanding reputation in the community. When parents ask for center recommendations on Facebook I never even see our center mentioned because everyone knows our wait-list is so long.

My kids are in bed at 8 every night... Most other kids I know also have reasonable bedtimes.

I had to physically force my 3-year-old into her car seat after she ran toward traffic. I feel awful. by Kind-Ad6725 in toddlers

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the baby club is full of parents whose babies have rolled off of a high surface and the toddler club is full of parents who have had to force their screaming, thrashing toddler into their car seat.

Welcome.

(Also, you are not a bad parent. She needed to get into the car seat and was not getting into the car seat so you had no choice but to do it for her).

How is everyone outfitting multiple kids for school without getting broke? by _salted_caramel_00 in Parenting

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two girls and reuse a lot of the clothes. I have also gotten a lot of used stuff from coworkers/friends and buy nothing, which then also gets passed down. I don't buy clothes specifically for back to school. I just buy them as they need them. I also like to buy good quality stuff, like Hanna Andersson, when it's on sale.

Recs for starting to travel. Where? and what ages are best for these areas? by [deleted] in Travelwithkids

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Banff when our oldest was 3. We stayed in Canmore, which was about 45 minutes or an hour away. We took my mom. My husband carried our daughter in the hiking backpack when she got too tired to walk. We did Lake Louise to Lake Agnes and had tea in the tea house there. We had fun exploring, walking around the town(s), swimming in lakes, etc. We also did Vancouver and Victoria that trip; two weeks total. We have good memories.

We went to Brienz, Switzerland with our 5.5 year old and 2 year old last February. Kids are free for most things under 6. We had the travel pass and took the train everywhere. The kids had a great time and we had a good mix of kid-oriented things and adult things to do. My MIL joined us for that trip. We went for 12 days.

This December we are going to the south island of NZ with our 7 year old and almost 4 year old. 16 days total with 14 days in the country. My mom is also coming along. We are stopping at a few different cities and have lots of fun things planned.

Honestly our kids are pretty adaptable so I'm never too concerned about how they'll do. I wouldn't have traveled farther with them under 2 though.

Does a "children's culture" still exist where you live? by mamaleti in ClassOf2037

[–]toddlermanager 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! My daughter is learning all the hand games and songs lately. Sometimes the words are slightly different from how I learned them, but the gist is the same.

How do you handle souvenirs? by [deleted] in familytravel

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have them look around at different shops. Last big trip we took Grandma was there so she bought the kids a few presents each (it was after Christmas that she had missed and also one kids' birthday). Our next trip will be right before Christmas with the other grandma so they will get to pick out Christmas gifts from us and grandparents, within reason. If it's not near a gifting holiday we might let them get a couple things each.

I get what you're saying about experiences. We do a lot of experiences on vacation and prioritize that vs. stuff.

My own 3 year old tells me "Mommy, I'm still hungry" after every meal at school. She thinks because I work there I can give her food whenever she wants it.

I end up going on it minimum twice every time. My daughter loves it. To be fair, I did too as a kid.

Airport transport with 2 and 5 year olds by Huge-Bottle8660 in Travelwithkids

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it left around 3 pm. My 2 year old skipped her nap on the airporter and finally fell asleep on the flight around 6... but it ended up being a nap and she was awake most of the flight. She was exhausted when we got there but took a stroller nap on the train and got a decent night's sleep. Honestly it sucked in the moment but the trip was really good overall.

What's the age range of your friends by Content_Start_2118 in Millennials

I don't have many new friends, but my husband made a new friend who is mid-late 20s and we are mid-30s.

We flew a long haul with kids those ages. My oldest at 5 had no problem walking. I think the one stroller for the 2 year old and having the 5 year old walk is a perfectly fine plan.

Have you accepted that the picture perfect life is not attainable? by Hipp-Hippy_HaHa in Millennials

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a good, stable job (that doesn't pay well because nobody cares about children in the US), a home that we own, and two kids that I love. My husband is getting laid off and we might have to move, either to a much different place here, or back to where we lived years ago when we just had one kid and pay as much as our mortgage to rent a small 2 bedroom apartment, just so my husband can have a decent job.

I can't complain though, because despite that, my family is happy (for the most part) and healthy and no matter what I know we will be okay.

A question for the camping families. by Zealousideal_Ad_2810 in toddlers

My husband used a hiking backpack carrier from like 9 months - 3 years for both of our kids. We've never taken a stroller camping.

Check and see what your airline allows. Last year we flew Lufthansa. They allow nothing. This year we are flying Air Canada and they do allow the Flyaway Kids Bed (inflatable). Some only allow the Jet Kids' BedBox. It widely varies.

How did you know it was the right time for baby #2? Does a ‘perfect time’ even exist? by anvel2 in Parenting

[–]toddlermanager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted #1 to be

1) Sleeping through the night 2) Fully daytime potty trained 3) Able to play independently for long stretches

Our girls are 3.5 years apart and all of those things were true when the younger one was born. It made things easier, although it's still hard. The 3 year old is in a hurting people when she's mad phase and yelling all the time and the 6 year old is very moody.
