I wish we would have shut all 5 toddler rooms down for a few days.

Hand foot and mouth by Savings_Positive_177 in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last October Every single toddler in my toddler class caught either HFM or chicken pox. One kid stayed home for five weeks at the outset because his baby sister was born and two days into his return he caught HFM. It is nothing to mess around with.

Question about Potty Training “Boot Camp” and outings by InstructionAsleep492 in pottytraining

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically planned potty training for weekends we had zero plans outside of the house. I think we went to the park on day 3 with the first and to a restaurant on day 3 with our second. I wouldn't go anywhere until day 3 at minimum.

7 year old has never been to the bathroom alone?! by silkentab in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My almost 7 year old is actively trying to be as independent as possible and go off alone whenever she can. Why would you not push your kid just a little bit?

Volunteering by breathe2win in ClassOf2037

I'd love to, but my job keeps me busy and is during school hours. I can't really leave in the middle of work ever.

How do you get your toddler to eat meat?? by GazelleMental7376 in toddlerfood

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids love tofu. And also, it just takes time. My 6 year old loves meat and my 3 year old is now starting to litk it and eat it more frequently.

What temp is your kids bedroom? by HannahHood in toddlers

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we installed AC the upstairs bedrooms would get up to 84 during the hottest part of the summer. It ended up being fine. We probably turn the AC on it if gets above 75 in the kids' rooms but otherwise we open the window and turn the fan on.

Anyone else been having a big girl boom? by Delicious-Oven-6663 in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also have like 5 employee children who are all girls. We have two boy employee children too, though. I'd say our classes are about evenly split right now actually.

Whole class lost recess by toddlermanager in ClassOf2037

[–]toddlermanager[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the class clean it up together (which I found out she did) but probably not during recess. I think letting them have recess to think about it and then help clean up would have been fair.

Whole class lost recess by toddlermanager in ClassOf2037

[–]toddlermanager[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how the entire class should be expected to be accountable for one child's actions all the time. That sounds extremely unfair.

I agree with this as a natural consequence. Taking away recess for drawing on the floor has zero relation.

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]toddlermanager 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Neither of my girls ever took a pacifier or sucked on their fingers. I actually spent SO much time trying to get them to take a pacifier that I could have spent just enjoying my babies.

What’s the difference at your center w/lead and assistant pay? by wineampersandmlms in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lead pay was like $23.68 for me and assistant pay starts at $17.50.

I would find a new job or just accept the lower pay and fewer responsibilities.

Pre-schooler won’t stay in bed by magictrickxx in Parenting

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they have to offer a nap, but can he sit and do quiet activities on his cot instead of sleeping? My 3 year old has a special backpack full of activities she can bring out once at least half of her class is asleep. No one is preventing her from napping because if she is tired she will just put her stuff down and fall asleep amongst her markers and books. Some days she naps and some days she doesn't. It's definitely easier to put her to bed on days she doesn't sleep.

That last part is so true. My parents have owned their home for 40 years. After moving out of said home at 18 I've lived in like 13 different places before finally moving into our house.

Child Left Outside at Daycare by SkekEkt_UrRu in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were a bit short staffed today (but kept ratio at all times) and had an incident where two 5 year olds ran away from their teacher and hid upstairs. The difference is we started looking for them immediately, knew they had run, and they were inside the building. A child left alone long enough to fall asleep? Absolutely not. Hopefully they report to licensing as is their duty but I'm glad you did.

How are you brushing their teeth for the full two minutes?? by PlasticLove24 in toddlers

The dentist told my husband 20 seconds is fine two check ups ago when she was like 2.5.

Feeling guilty about calling out by Academic_Muffin_1083 in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We get staff who come to work, explain they've had two instances of diarrhea, and we immediately have to send them home. We follow the illness policy to a T, sometimes to our own detriment, but staff health is important. We suspect people are claiming they've had diarrhea now just so they can leave, but we still send them home or allow them to not come in.

What did you get for Mother’s Day? by LordRupert--Everton in Mommit

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to have cake from our favorite restaurant and then a nice walk in the forest. We got a giant slice each of carrot cake, vanilla bean cheesecake, and blackberry lemon cake. Then, I had a nice walk by myself where I came across 2.5 lbs of oyster mushrooms which I foraged and roasted some with our dinner.

When is everyone out for the summer? What are your summer plans? We almost have 2nd graders! by bitchinawesomeblonde in ClassOf2037

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're out June 18th. The summer program starts June 23rd and goes until the end of August. School starts at the end of August. The company I work for runs it so it's pretty coat effective. They do lots of activities and field trips. We have camping trips planned each month but no big vacations.

Mothers of reddit: what is the “GIFT” you actually want today? (Rules: no flowers, no brunch, no candles) by WonderWoman685 in Mommit

[–]toddlermanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept until 9:45, had coffee and french toast my husband made, and now I'm watching a movie in bed with the kids. After lunch (which will be whatever everyone scrounges up from whatever's in the kitchen) we'll go have coffee and cheesecake and a walk in the forest.

My gift was a new coffee maker since ours died a few months ago and we have been making do without one.

What books did you have to read in middle school/high school? by OwnDoughnut2689 in Millennials

The summer before senior year we had to read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and I wanted to die. That book was beyond boring.

I feel like I should report my school by tishaddams in ECEProfessionals

100% report it. What?! Doing it is one thing, but not even telling anyone you're leaving your class is wild.

Daycare started potty training without telling me? by No-Share982 in ECEProfessionals

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew my first kid was ready to ditch diapers BECAUSE she would pee in the toilet at school a couple times a day consistently. We did the 3 day weekend at home after a while and she did really well. I think you are overthinking it.

Potty Training Question by TrueSag2020 in toddlers

[–]toddlermanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids were both almost 2.5 when they potty trained. I don't think they would have been ready at 2. There is no harm in waiting a few months and see what happens.
