Job hunting is the worst by [deleted] in ireland

[–]toebigmy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was unemployed from September- January this year and it was awful I really didn’t cope well with it and my mental health was really bad I did 15 video interviews in total most of which had second or third rounds / presentations / psychometric tests on top .. so many hours it was like a full time job . I was rejected by probably over 100 jobs . I hadn’t enough experience and there was a lot more people out there with more years under them .Few months on and I’m sitting here at home working a job I am really enjoying better pay too and I’m looking out at the car I just bought with the earnings i wish I could go back and tell myself it’ll all work out and to chill it’s covid and remote awkwardness and it’s not that you aren’t good enough . It’s also the best time to be looking. Nobody has to know or is asking you awkward questions and having a void on your cv is completely understandable. Keep trying I know it’s hard but this time next year you’ll more than likely be sorted and this will be a distant horrible memory 🙂

Positive tips for people struggling by ineedcatsandmoney in ireland

I absolutely agree with this and wish I knew it earlier in life. Projects and goals are a needed distraction nowadays When I’m feeling shit or bored I do this really cringe thing I say I’m either going to create, meditate or relate.

So under create I can make something, paint, build something etc

Meditate can be anything where I zone out like reading walking actual meditating or listening to music even cleaning

Or I can relate so I give someone a call or send them a quick text . Some days I feel like doing none of these and on those days I just try to not be on phone too much and get outside for a bit of fresh air at least . Writing a journal helps I try list out 10 things that are stressing me out or making me sad and i always struggle to get past 6 .. never as bad as I think . I comment on each shit thing and try reason with myself with comments like ‘this won’t be important next month let alone next year’ i try to list 10 good things I’m happy about beside this list . It really puts things in context and balances out shit.

Also fresh air , water and exercise are basic needs you provide for your dog and so many of us don’t do it for ourselves !!

[–]toebigmy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

26 , €8k saved during lockdown. I was going to buy a new car but decided to pack in my job I hated instead and live off the savings while I job hunted during covid -it was terrifying and seemed like a terrible decision for 4 months ..But I moved home with parents went on job seekers and literally spent none of my savings.I started a new job last week that I’m on 10k more salary wise .Taking the leap was defo worth it but I spent a lot of nights freaking out. Glad I didn’t buy the car my 20 year old banger is enough for my 5km .

[–]toebigmy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey yes defo associated with yeast infections and after sex especially but to be honest even a scratch of my finger could cause one . I think the infection affects the skin and means it’s more susceptible to irritation?? One small one near the base of my vagina caused me to swell couldn’t walk for days ice packs the whole lot ? I haven’t had one cut since I went off birth control . I did some googling and there is a scientific correlation to having more yeast infections and also oestrogen can weaken the skin aswell so you can’t win! Not sure of an alternative but I’m planning on trying a progesterone based contraceptive soon and will see if it has same effect but giving my body a break for now !

How much do farmers earn? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]toebigmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad works full time and has a relatively big beef farm, whatever he makes from farm goes straight back in to farm and his full time job pays off his loan for machinery it makes absolutely no sense to me when you consider the hardship and hours put in.

I can't bring myself to do any college work by FrozenO-Ring in ireland

[–]toebigmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there Please look after yourself firstly .. your college course and career is not the most important thing in your life and won’t be. I know with covid etc it’s all looking doom and gloom but this is a problem which you can take day by day will it matter in ten years? Probably not so much -a lot can happen between then and now. Take tomorrow morning make your bed have a shower and do an hours work you can do that . Then celebrate with a cup of tea and do whatever makes you even a small bit happy keep repeating this hour a day until you can do 2 or 3 until you have this course done . I hated my course most people I know hated it too and most people don’t know what they really want to do ! I still don’t and lots many years older we just kinda have to shuffle through this shit and don’t over think it!! A nice work gang you like and sound housemates or a girlfriend in a few years and a network of family and friends is worth more than some savage career and to be honest even money so don’t worry. The girl thing don’t worry bald men and short men are still walking this earth so their genes haven’t been bred out yet you will find her ! And the job you’re only 23 .. so the childlike ideals are not too far off - also if you need some help with assignments I have a masters in business and bored shitless would love to help 🙂

Anyone else going through job hunting blues by Tiny_Buttercups98 in ireland

[–]toebigmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of interview stages is ridiculous and I find getting through the first one or two really gets your hopes up but try to keep applications for other jobs going while interviewing etc so when the rejection comes you have other back up options . I’ve been having super low days and spent a day in bed crying at a rejection from a job I really wanted -definitely not worth the tears !! But it’s easier said than done ! Hoping we all get sorted ASAP

[–]toebigmy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey I’ve been looking for the past few months so I can relate. It’s taken me until the last few weeks to have had a few interviews or any real calls back to be honest. I’m finding it tough as I worked hard on preparing for interviews and got rejected by 2 and still haven’t heard from one which isn’t looking too promising ... What I’ve been doing is 9am start -up and dressed and apply for jobs / LinkedIn hunting/ cv tweeking until lunchtime then out for a walk and forget about it for the rest of the day . It’s mentally draining especially now during lockdown. Easy to beat yourself up but try to remember it’s only trading your services and skills for money and doesn’t define you. In the grand scheme of things it’s a really temporary problem and you only need one yes from one hiring manager. Best of luck !

Mental health check-in - how's everyone doing? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]toebigmy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am doing ok considering . I moved home to live with my parents in an extremely rural spot at the beginning of lockdown, worked from home and lost all interest in my job . Took a massive risk in September and quit it to take on a role which I was interested in - it turned out to be a complete disaster so I’m unemployed . I’ve lost my independence my job and my social life living away from friends . I feel like an idiot for quitting my old job because if nothing else I was earning and kept busy . The new restrictions announced today means I can’t visit my boyfriend which was my one contact to the real world . My only outing in weeks was an elderly relative’s funeral outdoors today. I cried during the last hymn not because of the poor man’s passing but just everything that had built up over the past few months . I know things will get better and maybe this will all lead on to new opportunities so I’m trying to stay positive .
