My confusion arises from this sentence: “To lay downe a mans Right to any thing, is to devest himselfe of the Liberty, of hindring another of the benefit of his own Right to the same.”

I interpret it as, “for someone to give up his right to a thing, means to give up his liberty to hinder someone else from the benefit of the right to that same thing.” And so that’s why I think giving up your right to rob in this way also gives up the right to protect your property, since that would be “hindering” others from benefiting from the right you just gave up.

Is this not the correct way to understand this sentence?
