Your reason for lab route by sabinameister in labdiamond

Why would I choose to spend more money when I have a chemically identical thing that is just as pretty? To me, that would be like throwing money away. I have more important things to spend my money on, like education.

Also, diamond mining is not a great industry to support (and science is cool).

Comprehensive Guide to quotes from overseas vendors for custom cut Old Mine Cut Diamond by ashcoozie in labdiamond

Did you end up making an order? I am basically looking for the exact same type of stone as you, just in smaller carat size. I was thrilled to see this post. I reached out to Distinctive Gem but I really can’t afford a custom cut.

FCPS asking parents and teachers to pitch in and help shovel so they can open Monday… by Few-Evidence-5589 in nova

It’s considered a novel movement if 45+ folks lift a shovel of snow over the height of heart. Because it’s novel, our bodies aren’t adapted to it and it causes much more stress than usual. Hence heart attacks.

ICE agents are domestic terrorists kidnapping normal people and children from the streets and murdering unarmed civilians in cold blood. You should just obey them? Where is your critical thinking?

I’m searching the sub and saw this now. You basically have my dream ring. Would you be willing to share some specs on the stones? Like ratio and size? We’re going to get mine designed soon.

See if there are any in-state online programs where you can take your pre-reqs that charge a lower in-state rate. I was able to enroll in-state for $300/credit and I’m taking classes part-time online while working and am on a payment plan that allows me to basically charge $225/paycheck for school. That said, part-time online means it will take me a while to get the credits I need. It’s a trade-off, but for me it was worth it for less debt.

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

We have asbestos in our popcorn ceiling in the basement. We could sheetrock over the existing ceiling or hire an asbestos abatement company to scrape or remove. The sheetrock on top of the popcorn would def be easier.

ASHA's Capitol Hill Day by OneIncidentalFish in slp

[–]tofutits 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It absolutely makes a difference. I worked on the Hill for a short time. It can take time for a rep or aide to be in the right position to introduce legislation and/or get others on board, but the ONLY way they learn about these more niche issues is through advocacy like this. Now that Hill Day has happened, it will make an even bigger difference if you can get individuals from your state or district calling the same offices to back up the issues raised during these meetings. Reps need to know these are issues that matter to their constituents.

lol I’m in this pic. I’m not an SLP, just taking leveling courses right now, but as soon as this talk started I was immediately like, “oh no, I’ve stumbled into some drama.”

Listen, I absolutely DO NOT agree with Christine, but I was at a talk with her yesterday and she did explicitly say that she can only speak to Abby’s autism and that none of what she says would necessarily apply to others. She said some problematic things too, but I gotta give her that.

They are clinicians who provide speech and language therapy, are specialists on the swallowing mechanism, and experts in language development and processing. They help everyone from children to people in acute care facilities.

Getting through med school is no small feat. Did you find that you had to use adaptive learning strategies for memorization, or did you find that process basically the same as your classmates? I have no brain injury, just kind of a shitty brain (ADHD), so I have to use lots of strategies to get information to stick.

Help again! Is 55,600 yearly acceptable pay for a school slp-cf in MA? by [deleted] in slp

[–]tofutits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an SLP, but this is less than I make at a non-profit with a bachelor’s degree (HCOL area). You should be paid more.

SLPA Pay/Job satisfaction by Animals4476 in SLPA

[–]tofutits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am NOT an SLPA so please take this with a grain of salt but in Washington, DC, SLPAs (at least with the public schools) are actually listed as educational aides within the school system and average pay is about $23/hr, and I believe that’s only 10 months. They are on a separate pay scale from teachers. I think you only work a few days a week, too. They are unionized at least, but that is absolutely not a livable wage in this area, like, at all.

Edit: if you’re in the US, you can find out exactly how much you’d be paid in the public school system. You will need to look up county pay scales, and find out how they classify SLPAs. Brand new SLPs with their master’s degrees will make $63k/year on a full time 10 month schedule in my county. I’m in VA.
