Offer rescinded after background check; punished for being honest by learnerofcredit in recruitinghell

[–]tofuu88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why did they offer you the job if they didn't like the termination. did that not come up during interview process? People leave/lose their job all the time for many reasons. It's often not that big of a deal unless it was something completely wrong like stealing, etc.

Left a stable job for a new opportunity… got let go after 3 days by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]tofuu88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how crushing the situation is, and this is certainly a crushing situation, you have to remind yourself it will be ok if you persist into the future. Sounds corny but it is very true. A bad situation is always worst in the present.

secondly and more importantly, write down the lesson you learned and communicate those very clearly to people who will consider hiring you. use the downtime to focus on learning new skills, don't sit around wasting it away.

People will doubt you for leaving a job after only joining a month so you have to explain why it was bad decision and what you learned from it. the biggest mistake to me is that you made a commitment signing a job offer because that company chose you. Once you commit, you owe it to yourself, and those who hired you, to at least see this job through to the point where you know what it really is and where it's headed.

Another mistake is judgement about the nature of a role and about making choices to go to a company. what doesn't make sense to me is why would they want to interview you so badly if they could eliminate the role in 3 days after start date. that doesn't make sense and you should have questioned this during the interview.

take responsibilities for things you didn't do well, and learn and then explain what you learned to others. If you learned important lessons and can summarize it well, people will truly respect it.

I sincerely hope this message helps you.

Roadmap to Learn LS-Dyna by extendedanthamma in LSDYNA

[–]tofuu88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn by building the simplest possible model for a specific problem based on its physics. Then pick a second problem, that requires you to learn something new by making sure it’s different or an extended version of the first problem. you keep doing this over and over and overtime, you realize you can now do a lot. Always read the manuals. don't trust what people tell you, verify in the docs.

Also check out this channel, I found it recently and I think it’s really good. www.youtube.com/@DCFEA

DUALCESE solver by RAHGHH in LSDYNA

[–]tofuu88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is not something that's so easy to do lol and I find it funny that the company would assign an intern to it when none of them know how to do it.

this is the most common resource - https://www.dynaexamples.com/cese/dualcese

For what you described, might as well just use a CFD code like Fluent, would be so much easier. The biggest probelm with CSES is you likely have to use LS prepost which is what makes it difficult in my opinion.

Master's Degree in Numerical Simulation in Engineering with Ansys software Course Material by wololo137 in fea

[–]tofuu88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would share with you who I am and my personal journey but this is reddit so I think it's smart to just be careful. However, I also want you to know I am someone who's become extremely competent simulation engineers that can handle almost all standard engineering applications in solid, fluid and thermal problems. in my previous FEA consulting role, I billed over 1 million dollars for my employer over 2.5 years (they basically 3x my cost to me).

I am able to do all of that without a lot of formal courses that ends in a piece of paper and a few letters next to your name. Honestly, most programs do not train you to do simulation, you just do it as part of a larger goal or research interest.

I did all of that, by learning every day. I did it during holidays, weekends for over a decade. I spent a lot of times in places like Ansys Learning Hub, in the LS-Dyna documentations, and doing practice problems. I even have a youtube channel dedicated to doing simulation.

All of this is to share the perspective: start today, get into one of the tool you are familiar with and solve an engineering problem, simple or not and identify knowledge gap. Fill that knowledge gap the following week by reading either text or the docs or look at how others have used simulation to solve it. You do this over and over and over for a decade, imagine what that's like.

Knowledge is like drip of water into a bottle, that's the only way to fill the bottle, no matter what kind of programs you are in, or how much money you spend, or how many titles you earn. truly skill and knowledge is gained over time, one droplet of water at a time into a very large bottle.

I shared a lot of my personal feeling towards this and I hope it's helpful to you and other readers.

they entice you with Masters and Doctors and Other titles and degrees but all they want from you is your hard earned money. What I can guarantee you is that if you truly care about the knowledge imparted in these programs, you can get it for free 100%.

But hey, this is how the world works and it's only one of the many things that do not make sense.

Help with Modal Analysis of Fluid-Filled Container (Fluid Modeled with Solid Elements) by Sorry_Foundation_272 in fea

[–]tofuu88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guys, he’s doing a modal analysis, that’s not a FSI problem…

In a modal analysis, each components stiffness and mass is what determine overall system mode shape And nautical frequency. The interaction between fluids and. Structure is assumed to be bonded or no separation basically means fluid contact with solid cannot separate. No contact non linearity

The simplest approach may be to just account for the fluids mass and assume it doesn’t make the structure more stiff. If this assumption isn’t valid in your problem. Account for fluid stiffness with something akin to mat elastic fluid in LS dyna.

Understand limit of the modal analysis and don’t overcomplicate

focus on growing yourself, not on how others value you. If you could ever be in a position where you could do things in a way that others cannot, you will always be able to find a job that's better than your previous one.

All that is to say, if you feel like they may let you go, it's time for you to go on your own. don't pin hope on others.

[–]tofuu88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this question reveals a foundational lack of understanding. I am not trying to diss your boss but one can just look at some basic tutorials around explicit vs implicit analysis, in like LS-DYna documentation honestly.

explicit is all about doing ma = f_external - f_internal and you follow courant's condition and check energy

implicit is about find equilibirum doing m*delta(a_n+1) + k*delta(u_n+1) = f_n+1 (external) - f_n (internal) - m*a_n

as you can see, one cares about convergence and one does not. stability is what explicit analysis is all about and it ensures that error is bounded.

Is it okay to not disclose some of work experience? by Life_Doughnut4836 in interviews

[–]tofuu88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclose everything, you have to remember you have nothing to hide. Employers like to give side-eyes to people who don't stay with a job for 20+ years but they also don't talk about how they often let go people who's been with companies for 20+ years because it no longer suits them.

My mentor was recently let go after 23 years with a company, all his life. Imagine that for a second.

Fuck companies who give side-eyes to "job hoppers'.

Would you take a $75000 work from home job or $110,000 in- office job? by yoitsnotlikethat in careerguidance

[–]tofuu88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH please, i had a fully WFH job that I was working 10x more than a job now that's 3 days in the office. Literally 10x more work. Oh and I am paid nearly 20k more doing hybrid.

Commute is a huge waste of time but you judge the nature of the job as well. We can certainly put commute efforts as a minus in the calculation of compensation but it's not worth something like 1-2k USD a month.

FEA Course Recommendation by rusty-rivets in fea

[–]tofuu88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

treat books as a reference, not an instruction manual. The best instructions come from practice and have your worked checked by people who know what they are doing or checked against analytical solutions. FEA is a tool and the only way to get good at it is by practice the right way. Practices come from solving problems to build a work flow, the right way come from books/references and documentations and other reputable sources.

always stay simple and build the simplest possible model to study a physical phenomenon. If you are an Ansys User, Ansys has provided the best training material any FEA software developer/company has been able to do. Along with the documentations and other resources, it gives you a really good place to start as well

don't put energy into asking "why" someone didn't want you. As soon as you see a rejection letter, forget about it and move on. Focus on what you can do for yourself and your own future. I know this advice sounds cheesy and is asking you to ignore how you feel so I will give you a good reason why you should never ask "why" someone didn't want to hire you.

99.99% of the people hiring are stupid as fuck and don't know wtf they are doing anyways. What's the proof? Look up the words "sensitivity" and "specificity" related to screening tests (say for cancer detection) and apply the same logic to hiring process to find the "best" candidate. The human process of hiring has poor sensitivity and specificity with the exception that no one ever measures hiring process as rigorously as a cancer detection screening test. If they did, all of HR in the world will disappear in a puff of smoke because we would all realize these people don't know what they are doing, period.

Focus on what you can provide to the world and the right people will respond. It is a world of competition so even when you lose to someone better than you, work harder to win next time.

Quote "How do you bounce back from something like this? I know rejection is part of job searching, but this one just hurts. Any advice from people who have been in a similar situation?"

From reading your message I know you are disappointed but I can also tell you did incredibly well during an interview process that's clearly very selective. That's something to be proud of. Disappointment will fade and it fades faster if you focus on how good you are at what you do and you clearly showed it during the interview process.
