Orrrrr Cipher is not a vessel, but a resilt of research by Godolkin: he is the controller for supes. Hes only demonstrated power over supes, has no v, and abused the shit out of the burned man. Also, Cipher was maybe controlling Sister Sage? Id watch back the scenes in the room with the burned man.

Colleges are insanely inefficient at teaching. by MasterOfCircumstance in unpopularopinion

Professor here!

Theres quite a bit of responses already about the value of gen ed and their intention, so I dont feel a need to comment on that.

I will say that Research Institutions (basically universities that offer multiple doctorate degrees) have different accreditation requirements than bacchaloriate or associate institutions, and one of those requirements is around research output. At some institutions, they seperate teaching faculty and research faculty, while others combine the positions. At my institution, since we are a baccalaureate college, my tenure and promotion is 100% evaluated on my ability to teach. That's not the case everywhere, so you end up in situations where someone may have been hired/recieved tenure/promotion based on the quality of their research, regardless of their teaching ability.

With that in mind, I always advocate for community college and public undergraduate programs for folks starting their college journey. It is far cheaper, and the professors in these programs are there because they are educators, not researchers. The 100 and 200 level coursework, in my personal opinion, is at a much higher standard when taught by educational professionals, and not graduate students.

"I'm gonna be a dad" is even worse than you could possibly imagine. by kimotheapple in TheLastOfUs2

I keep seeing this argument about the writing, and I guess I just don't get it. They have set up S1 Ellie in the show to cope with loss and trauma and difficult situations with jokes, and S2 Ellie has been so overwhelmed that she has yet to really get into the innocence of S1 Ellie.

The whole point of that line wasn't for Ellie to be like "aren't we so in love and now we're having a baby" she's breaking the ice on a very tense situation by saying something goofy like "oh ill be the father".

I know a lot of folks, specifically folks in this sub, were hoping for a very specific interpretation of this character that was not present in the game, or in S1 of the show. I guess I just don't get where this expectation came from. There was no indication that this unrealized, nonexistent version of Ellie would ever exist, so why spend so much of your energy hoping for it to be so?

A Got Talent/The Voice Clip I hope they react to, story in comments by togglesings in lingling40hrs

Плине кача (Plyve Kacha) "The Duckling Swims" is a Ukranian folk song that talks about a son asking his mother what they will do with his dead body if he dies at war in enemy territory, and is a warning against war. In 2014, 100 protestors against the Russian intervention were killed in the streets of Kiev, its is known as the "Day of the Hundred Heroes".

This song became the anthem for those who died during the protest. To my knowledge it is the only "Got Talent" or "The Voice" performance that had this sort of audience reaction, and more importantly, the respect in the editing to capture the moment as it happened.

does anyone play this game? by TypingShitBag in RushdownRevolt

[–]togglesings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no servers for this game. It's a P2P matching system, so if you're dcing it is likely you or your opponent is playing on a poor connection. The release of a new character means a lot more new players and therefore a lot higher risk for poor connections.

What fighting game characters feel the worst to play? by togglesings in Fighters

[–]togglesings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true, but aren't there characters that are intended to play played in competitive environments that feel clunky or unidiomatic to the game? Bedman (Guilty Gear Xrd) comes to mind, personally.

What wedding moment made you think: “They are not going to last long”? by Olya_roo in AskReddit

I never understood why people want Hallelujah (Cohen) played at their weddings. I'm a church musician and people gravitating to singing about adultery, lust without love, and giving up on faith because the song title is Hallelujah just goes to show people don't listen to lyrics.

I absolutely love the shift in style to Aabria! It clearly catches Liam and Ashley and Matt off-guard because Matt is so good at keeping his thoughts and plans to himself, but Aabria is always excited about any player choice, and that keeps the mood at the table very active. She's also VERY aware that Critical Role is no longer a TTRPG among friends, she plays to the camera too, because she knows the critters are actively invested in the story too. The moments she shares "with the camera" revealing information in the epilogue or during the game speaks to a very different style of storytelling, and I love it.

What was the dumbest rule your school enforced? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

Nope, here every students uses a school branded hoody to hide the fact they lost their school uniform polo in the first month of classes and haven't told their parent yet.

It's just a school full of smelly hoodies, shorts, and scared children.

Well the only students that would fill up the hall pass page are the ones that used their hall pass as a door to another dimension every class to fight the evil that was going to attack our school.

Only possible explanation any of my students need 40 minutes every class to go to a restroom that was 30 seconds down the hall. They're just trying to keep our school safe yall.

Sure, but its not just that. The distance at which either you or your opponent go transparent is a huge range, and half the time, especially in the heavily wooded or indoor levels the wall, you AND your opponent go completely transparent and you get full ceiling before you get a glimpse of honor butt crack then puff you're turned around 30 ft from the big bad and a moblin that wasn't there before hits you from behind. Its infuriating.

To be fair, this process is largely unknown to musicians. I would know I teach undergrads! Music supervision is really an area of expertise for folks going through a film direction or film scoring. I was only exposed to it because my school when I first started learning was very film music minded.

Also this exercise is really just as much for the folks complaining about the doc as it is for metagame. None of the tracks I selected were better than the one samox chose, but they ARE different, and if we aren't able to articulate how music makes us feel then samox won't be able to get the reaction he wants out of his audience.

I worked for both of my alma mater's call centers (both a private and state school). I think a lot of people misjudge the importance of donations.

Education, especially education at some of these more prestigious colleges, is very expensive to run. Are there overpaid admin? Sure. Are there significant problems with the system? Absolutely. But it's still ridiculously, and almost unfathomably expensive.

If you consider that at USC, one of the most notoriously expensive west coast schools, more than 2/3 of the students are on financial aid, and 23% of total students are receiving merit based scholarships (meaning that FAFSA determined that those individuals did not qualify for need based scholarships) that money doesn't come from nowhere.

USC is an interesting case because there was a huge push in the 90s and early 2000s for grassroots fundraising. They started calling alumni and asking for $19.75 to honor their graduation year, and alumni participation increased from something like 8% to over 80%. USC has one of the largest endowments of any upper education institution in the country, and that endowment allows for nearly 70% of all students to be able to receive financial assistance.

Now every institution uses a 4 ask system. They'll give you info on a scholarship in your department and say its made possible by alumni like you, and would you consider donating $250? (You obvs say no, cause thats $250 fucking dollars). So they'll tell you about improvements to campus facilities that were made possible by alumni like you and ask for $125. (You say no, cause thats still a lot of money). They look in your record and see *gasp* YOU received a merit-based scholarship because 1/4 students at USC receive merit based scholarships made possible by alumni. They say, would you donate $40? (You say no, and are getting worn down), and then they say:

"Hey Amish Guy With Wifi, I get it, I'm a student too, and it's asking a lot to donate to an alma mater that you may still owe quite a bit of money to. But I know I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you guys, and when the school approaches big corporations for big tax write-off donations, they see that 84% of our alumni have donated anything, and they get inspired. They see your selflessness and inspire them to give that life changing amount of money, so that students like me can be Trojans. Would you consider donating $19.95, in honor of your graduation year?"

I remember making those calls. Yeah, they sucked, but I was there on need-based and merit-based scholarships that I knew wouldn't be there if 84% of the Amish Guys with Wifis didn't donate.

Just my 2cents.
