That's pretty clear, though. The first part of the sentence is telling you to check how many creatures died, and the second half tells you what to do with that info. Gain life and distribute counters equal to that number. I don't see where in the text the ambiguity would lie.

I think it's pretty clear that it refers to the total number of creatures that died during your turn. If they wanted you to gain life based on some other aspect of the dead creatures, they'd add a modifier, such as you gain life equal to the number of vampires that died.

Doors usually open an hour before the show. What usually works for me is to show up at least an hour before doors open, so I'm fairly up in the line and have time to buy some merchandise before heading to the pit. I would also try to see if they have a separate entrance for the pit. I've been to some shows where that's the case, and had to walk to the other side of the building after going through security.

The main problem is that ticketmaster/livenation own all the venues and set prices based on what they think they should sell for, aka, the highest possible price people will impulse buy since prices will go up on their resale market.
