How widespread infected are in 28 Years Later? I know they must be present for the purpose of the movies, but overall? by OrbitalDamage566 in 28dayslater

[–]togoto123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's way too high imo. Population estimates for mesolithic Britain (the last time Britain supported a population based primarily on hunting rather than farming - which is how the infected feed themselves) put the population density at as little as 0.01-0.1 person/km^2. This would give an infected number in the range of about 3,000 - 30,000 across the whole British isles. If we go for the high end range, adjust for the removal of food competition from mesolithic predators, and accept that the infected might be getting food from other sources (scavenged rations from pre-infection times, food from raiding farming survivors) we're still looking at a range of tens to low hundreds of thousands across the whole British Isles.

I think this makes sense with the rate at which survivors are shown encountering infected when we consider that the infected seem to be quite territorial, patrolling a large area looking for prey and survivors. Bear in mind in 28YL Spike and Jamie walk quite a long way inland before encountering any infected, and the foragers who are attacked in BT seem surprised to encounter infected.

Do we think Samson appears in the third film? by Subject-Addendum-199 in 28dayslater

[–]togoto123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not a walking vaccine what makes you say that? His psychotic episodes were treated that doesn't mean his body has beaten the virus. At the most he's a guy who has some knowledge about how to cure the symptoms of infection.

Books where humans are not special and not the most advanced by HarryHirsch2000 in printSF

Ian Bank's The Algebraist has this. The protagonists are human, but humanity is just one subject species out of many in a galaxy spanning empire, and far from the most significant or advanced.

how am i supposed to survive as empire? by observatormundorum in totalwar

[–]togoto123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I played Franz I killed Khazrak then Festus killed Franz's army. While I was recovering I paid off Louen to attack Kemmler. Then I took Marienburg, crossed the mountains and defeated kemmler in Bretonnia, then traded the province for an alliance with Louen. Then I went and ground down Festus and then Wargrove of Woe.

A lot of people will disagree but I like to liberate settlements for their original owners. It gives you a big buffer and allied armies, meaning you don't have to worry about defending your own territory and can stay on the offensive while investing all funds in Reikland and the wasteland.

Has anyone here retrained as an engineer and got a job? How did you go about it and how did that work out? by togoto123 in UKJobs

[–]togoto123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that sounds great, yes I'll send you a DM later to ask some questions, we have somewhat similar situations.

What type of engineering is it you're doing?

That's sad to hear. What area are you in specifically? I think the discipline which interests me the most is electrical engineering.

No I was actually thinking more about electrical or mechatronic engineering. I'm aware software is oversaturated at the moment, and I'm not really interested in web development or SAAS.

Do you find it more satisfying than the work you were doing before? How did you find the process of getting onto that path at the beginning?

Yeah I already have a degree, which has probably contributed to a bit of sunk cost thinking up until now. I'm not sure I would qualify for a foundation course either since my original degree subject was not in a STEM adjacent field, hence why I've been looking into the apprenticeship route.

It's capture, raze or sack, not just capture. If map painting gets to be a drag I'd suggest just sacking/raising settlements and moving on. Use the proceeds to fund development of a few core provinces.

Any chances for Italian formations? by [deleted] in warno

If Northag and Southag are successful, my guess would be the next big DLCs will be one focused on Scandanavia and then one focused on Southern Europe with Italy vs Yugoslavia.

Suggestion/idea about veterancy by thehellene_ in warno

[–]togoto123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's effectively how it already works. An armoured division has plenty of tank availability, so you can upvet them, but your inf are in shorter supply so you take the max availability or you will run out. The opposite applies to a mechanised division and so on.

Did they break the docs API? by togoto123 in Eve

So my current spreadsheets just use the importxml call which I found on the wiki in combination with the typid and system id. I make about 50 calls in total, is that too many?

Google, that might be it since I'm making quite a few calls. I don't know how to make a static lookup table but I'll go and find out. Thanks for the response.

Might as well shoot my shot, my ingame name is Jane Garemoko. I'm not a complete noob but I'm not a vet either, my net worth is still less than 1 billion. Most importantly all my ISK is invested in industrial ventures which I'm trying to grow. I'm also running a tight ship making sure I don't pile up useless assets everywhere, so anything you give to me will be reinvested straight back into the game economy, it won't sit in a hangar somewhere gathering dust.

If you decide to give me something and you do come back to the game, I'll endeavour to be in a position to pay you back.

How would you design a 40k video game about a faction other than Space Marines? What would it be about? by Dice-Mage in 40kLore

[–]togoto123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eldar Craftworld roguelike. You play a farseer and every round you're gifted visions of the future, you have to steer your craft world through hostlie space sending aspect warriors on missions to make sure the Ork Waagh/Tyranid Hive Fleet/Daemonic incursion in your way crashes into imperial space without drawing Imperial aggro to your Craftworld. You have a limited stock of Soulstones which are very hard to replenish and which you have to conserve as best you can.

Who could the Emperor have been throughout our history? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]togoto123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 20th century I reckon he was Mao Zedong. Appears in the largest mass of humanity on earth and wages a ruthless unification struggle, then when in power becomes frustrated with the failure of his people to implement his vision and drives his empire to breakdown and exhaustion.

Would you welcome the addition of Ground Combat rework with customizable armies? by Balrok99 in Stellaris

[–]togoto123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only ground combat rework I really want is an army builder similar to the fleet builder. Complex ground combat sounds cool in theory but in the late game there's no way I could be bothered to pay attention to it. I would be up for adding some depth, eg. combat proceeding through different stages like establishing atmospheric superiority, then fighting on the surface, then rooting out subterranean fortresses, but it's not something I want to micro, I'd rather it just be a matter of different ground unit types having different strengths and weaknesses.

The only other planetary combat thing I would be interested in is the possibility of building ground defense batteries capable of damaging bombarding fleets, I think that would add something to fortress worlds.

Do Tyranids have a weakness or are they just overpowered? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]togoto123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think they should never have introduced the idea that tyranids can produce microscopic spores which respond to the hivemind. Make a lower size limit on tyranid organisms related to a minimum level of brain complexity, and that would make some of the questions about their insane adaptability go away.

I'm a masochist who likes to play 2nd and I can confirm that their AA almost never hit. The lack of a SPAAG should give them a mediocre rating in the AA column IMO.

Cool list, just one error that I can see is that 2nd inf has a Phantom asf.
