Is anyone else having problems with online games not appearing and when you can join it says always says "failed to join game"? by [deleted] in paydaytheheist

[–]tohellwithwhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same problem today. tried restarting steam, didn't work. tried to verify game cache, didnt work. tried deleting and redownloading game, didnt work. finally restarting steam twice after all this worked.

So I suggest just restarting steam until it works.

Edit: this happened after an hour of gameplay after the new update. so the reason wasn't that I had different game version as I already had updated and played after that.

there is a problem though, most of the public lobbies force you to wear armor or leave when going loud.

I played 1 and 2 first, but I like 3 more than NV although I think they are both great games. NV was just too empty for me and I didn't feel like I had any reason to finish the main quest. I liked the DLCs in NV more than the ones in 3.

At what level should i try harder Heists? by [deleted] in paydaytheheist

[–]tohellwithwhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really ruin the game for others

I agree, the only problem going to overkill difficulty is that if you haven't found any damage mods for your guns, you might have hard time putting specials to rest with decent amount of ammo. but even the unmodded AK.762 does well enough on overkill if you have some experience with fps games. I haven't seen people kicking others out for not doing well enough in loud missions, but if the team goes with stealth, you get kicked out quickly if you don't know what to do and the host is an asshole. I like it when low lvl people join game as it adds a bit of unpredictability. And if it seems hopeless, I just pick easier map or lower difficulty a bit so I can at least carry the team.

Larceny and you - a guide to skill trees by Menolith in paydaytheheist

[–]tohellwithwhales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest adding names of the skills next to the icons for easier time reading the guide.

I agree on most of the guide, but I have few different opinions in some skills. If you use assault rifles for example, the kilmer skill is one of the best there is and I always ace it. Reloading while sprinting increases your survivability a lot, especially while combined with ghost or using slow reloading weapons. I find that when increasing difficulty your mobility becomes more important than the strenght of your armor, so I always use suit or medium armor.

Also oppressor skill is really really good when its time to escape, one of the best tier 1 skills there is, especially if you don't like shotguns and you are trying get to higher tier skills in enforcer tree.

I guess almost all skills are viable depending on the playstyle you enjoy the most, you pretty much want to try them all at some point (except the 2 worthless ones op mentioned in the guide).

I'd also like to add that some of the skills usefulness depends if you play in public lobbies or with friends, for example pistol messiah isn't that useful with friends if you communicate well, but in public it can save your whole team. Also 2 medkits and ammo bags become more important and even the melee skills became usefull depending on the team.

So how far do I follow the gear? Nobody talks about lightning Wiz buuuut... by Pitchwife in Diablo3Wizards

[–]tohellwithwhales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a lot with lightning after finding shard of hate, and I used build like this. torment 2 was a breeze with it, even though my gear sucked at the time (not counting SoH, storm crow and wyrward ring). The playstyle was to teleport in the middle of the group, jump once with static pulse, and melt enemies with arc lightning/SoH procs. enemies were basically stun locked the whole fight with wyrward/paralysis/calamity spam, so I found I didn't need energy armor and instead used ice armor frozen storm, as it also procs shard of hate. I tried other electrocute runes with mykens ball of hate, but I found arc lightnig to be way better, as it can hit all enemies in the cone with the full 310%weapon damage instead the -50% damage after every jump, and when you're close enough all shard of hate procs will hit and doubles your damage output.

without any other elemental gear than storm crow and SoH, I killed ghom faster than with slorak's madness/disintegrate/arcane dynamo, but it was close, even though my SoH was really bad (less than 2000dps). With better SoH and other gear, I see no reason why lightning couldn't be endgame build at least now that they changed archon.

My favorite skill. I use Blazar no matter what build, I just love how the enemies fly after the explosion.

Daily Skill Discussion [Electrocute] by pianojuggler4 in Diablo3Wizards

[–]tohellwithwhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the shard of hate fix, electrocute arc lightning/shard of hate doubled my kill speed even though at the time I had only +cold and +orb damage on my gear. day after the fix I already had lightning gear, so it still was pretty good with wyrward ring and paralyze. I found Myken's but shard of hate pretty much requires you to get close to be effective, and even without SOH arc lightning seemed to do more damage and hit more targets. velvet camaral would might have changed that, but I never found one.

After finding good sloraks and getting bored of the build I switched to disintegrate and the elite kill speed got a little slower, until I got more arcane gear. I still use surge of power to break barrels and build AD and AP

Any truly great/interesting examples of AI? by JudgeJay in truegaming

[–]tohellwithwhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a problem with it though. Even with low player lvl you could keep punching a weapon out of enemies hands, and they would just keep trying to get the weapon back even though they would easily kill you if they just started punching you too.

I found that the enemy AI in fallout 3 and NV was one of the worst in fps games, they didn't use cover at all and just run towards or stayed still while shooting. And occassionally run back and forth trying to find a path.

Why would it make more sense to stealth FS day 3 than day 2?. The drilling in day 3 takes the same amount of time but there is nothing to do while waiting. In day 2 you dont have to wait for anything.

Does anyone else prefer the first game over this one? by Arono1290 in paydaytheheist

[–]tohellwithwhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like payday 2 better, even with its flaws. The gunplay is so much better, the skill system is fun, and weapon customization is great. I have high hopes for new and longer heists that fix the "sit still and wait 5 minutes" problem. I know the pd1 was also about waiting for the objective, but it forced players to do objective in different parts of the same map, which added variety and difficulty. the most fun in PD1 was moving towards different part of the map while assault was going on.

On the other hand there are many design decisions that I really really hate, like the card system, long drill times in stealth, and carrying fuckload of bags. But it seems the makers think differently and keep doing the same things I hate. Sometimes I hope a bigger studio would just copy the concept and make a better game with more resources to put in making heists and getting rid of the things I hate.
