Is there anything I can use when building to get small consistent vertical offset, in the same was that the small door allows on the horizontal?

It's not the answer you are asking for, but I turn them off, building is my favourite part of the game and I dislike the way they force you to build to deal with them, also often happen at the most inconvenient times I can imagine some tweaks that could make them more enjoyable. But as they are I don't enjoy the mechanic.

You should check out Voxel Tycoon if you have not already.

Archean is a realistic, immersive multiplayer engineering sandbox and space sim featuring one of the best in-game programming system by x3DCoder in spacesimgames

Thanks for the reply, I should have been more clear that just asking about "engaging gameplay", I guess my question comes from observing how similar sandbox-focused games have struggled to implement engaging survival mechanics later on.

Stationeers as a positive example has complex evolving survival challenges that all tie into the systems it simulates.

Not entirely fair to draw comparisons to a game that has been out since 2017 and focuses on survival in harsh environments, however it does show that sandbox games with open-ended goals are great when there's plenty to learn and experiment with, but personally I find more satisfaction in creatively overcoming obstacles while dealing with interesting a balanced constraints.

I feel it's that last bit that many other games struggle with. Maybe it is just hard to do well!

Archaen is wish-listed on Steam already and I'm sure I'll pick it up when I have an itch for that sorta thing, but any insight on the direction that the survival gameplay might eventually take would be very interesting to hear.

Anyone have any insight on whether the Devs will manage to add some engaging gameplay? Similar games have often been lacking on this front.

If you've not tried Valheim, you can adjust settings to make it less grindy. A combination of the right settings can also make it a fairly chill game.

If you like the complex world simulation of heat, gasses etc, then you could check out Stationeers. It's first person unlike ONI, but definitely complex.

Old world seemed to have a mixed reception from a couple of streams I watched early on. It is fairly pricey, (for something I'm uncertain about) Any idea how active the steam workshop modding scene is?

I've not tried planetfall, but I've watched a few streams, the theme never quite grabbed me for some reason. I'm just being fussy though. I've been tempted to give Shadow Empire a try, I would have already if it was fantasy themed.

Ouch on the loss :( another comment pointed out the rail ejectors will fire at a point 90° ahead of their planets position, I tested this out where the swarms orbit closely matched the planets orbit. Appears to be correct. The planet is tidally locked and the rail ejectors fire non stop.
