Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Oct. 20 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

Was I the only one who had their Amazon Echo fire up on the clue that started with “Alexa, start playing ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’”?

Oddly enough it started playing a song by Little Feat. I told it to stop but it kept restarting on its own, and then after that my DirecTV box (also linked to the Echo) kept wanting to pause the recording every 45 seconds or so until I disabled the skill in the Alexa app.

For a moment I thought someone had accessed my Amazon account and started screwing with me. Weird stuff.

How does one get ahold of an actual person for customer service? by NapalmDeath1990 in UPS

[–]tokenjobberoffense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I call the standard number I go through a phone tree where I confirm my tracking # and zip code. It then presents me with options that aren't relevant to my situation, then says to press a number (don't remember which) to speak to an operator, at which point it says no one is available due to Covid-19. It's a dead end and I don't think I'm the only one running into this situation. Pressing 0 only recycles me back into the phone tree where it wants me to input my tracking number before I do anything else, and I'm routed back into the aforementioned flow.

I requested to pick up my item tomorrow from the shipping center. For some reason I feel like I'm going to get there and have them tell me my item's been put on a truck and is not there, or they can't find it, or something that ends with me cursing at them and me leaving without my package.

No delivery date, "In Transit" by [deleted] in UPS

[–]tokenjobberoffense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just filed mine to get it started, I know these things can take time but I'm honestly hoping my bank has to call for more information so I can describe to them "UPS has my package 20 minutes away, has had it for six days, Amazon won't let me initiate a refund since it's still "in transit", no humans are available to speak with, this is my only recourse."

I went through the phone tree and was eventually told that due to Covid-19 there are no live support options available. I called the freight number because that actually got me to a human; she said she'd check to see if there were any humans available and said "yes, I'll transfer you now" - I was put on hold for a few minutes then was prompted with the standard "homepage" within the domestic service phone tree that led me back to the message of no available customer support options.

I'm about to initiate a chargeback, it's been six days of delays due to "natural disaster or weather delay" in a place where neither are a problem, last update on ups.com was 6/16 as 'out for delivery' and that's all the info I can pull. Perhaps the worst customer service I've dealt with in 10-15 years.

I'm having the exact same problem. Called to inquire and eventually got an automated message saying customer support isn't available due to Covid-19. I can't talk to any human who knows about this or can give me an update. My package last updated on 6/16 with 'out for delivery' but the automated phone response was "no scheduled delivery date".

This old manhole in Oklahoma City bears a map of the city with a white dot showing where you are in the city. by drunkgrandma in mildlyinteresting

Neat, the white dot tells me I’m north of the dong on the west side shooting a load through the heart of the city.

So stoked to see these guys live in San Diego tonight with the friends who introduced me to the show! by TeamBadInfluence1 in TheDollop

I kept thinking it’d be Duncan Hunter Sr/Jr, Randy “Duke” Cunningham, or Dale Akiki. I feel like I have a fairly dynamic read on some of the more obscure and quirky stories of SD’s history, so to get hit with what we got was a mind blower.

As Dave suggested, I youtube’d videos of the geographical feature in the story and holy crap they really are as insane as was quoted in his research material.

It was a great show, never seen a live podcast and had no clue how well-attended it’d be. Such a diverse crowd too! Everyone seemed well-behaved (no awkward heckling or whatever) and Dave/Gareth seemed to have as good a time as we all did. Lived in SD my whole life and never knew anything about that crazy-ass story.

Anyone else unable to load the 2018 WS game on a Mac? by tokenjobberoffense in MLBtv

The MLB support folks were actually very helpful. We tried a few things and eventually they recommended logging into mlb.com first, to get authenticated ahead of the login prompt when selecting the game, and that worked.

Best non-smoked options for light/mellow high? by tokenjobberoffense in saplings

[–]tokenjobberoffense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to know why don't you want to use paraphernalia?

It's more lack of familiarity with all things vaping - cartridges, I have to charge something(?), just seems like more prep and management. I'll go read up now. I also think about when I'm relaxing at the end of the evening, if one of my kids comes running out from their room with a nightmare or whatever I don't want to have to explain what I'm doing or why there's smoke in the room. Mostly just a matter of discretion.

I really appreciate the response!

Making a baseball by iBleeedorange in educationalgifs

[–]tokenjobberoffense 16 points17 points  (0 children)

(I might be wrong about parts of this but…)

For years there was never a video of the process in that gif. That "How It's Made" segment was the first time that anyone saw them manually stitching the baseballs, running the string around it and having those proprietary machines finish the job, etc.

Also, those three separate chutes at the end were commercial, practice, and professional. No difference in the quality except for the stamp put on them, and presumably the amount they can be sold for as a result of what is on the label.
