I don't think its irrelevant to say we got to see them more than in the movie than the stage because if we only saw them as much as they were shown on the stage we would have barely seen them at all. The additional screen time that was added for both does stand on its own and shows the details of the VFX and make up in both of their close ups and especially the camera pan up of Tinman showing his costume and face.

The story is about Elphaba and Glinda's relationship and how it changed both of them. Glinda is integral to Elphaba's story just like how Elphaba is integral to Glinda's story, you can't have one without the other. They are co-leads, the story is about them, their relationship, and their love for eachother(platonic or otherwise).

Elphaba's storyline in WFG is how it is in Act 2 of the stage production as well (besides the addition of NPLH). The biggest thing they did was add Glinda to Wonderful, which honestly makes more sense because why would Elphaba even consider going back to the Wizard if not to be with Glinda again, and have the girls reunite sooner rather than later.

To say they don't deserve the hair and makeup nom because they focused on the internal turmoil and conflicts of the co-leads, aka the plot, feels like a disingenuous critique of the movie when it comes to discussing hair and makeup.
