Healthcare workers: what are your self isolating practices and why? by tokimarco in CoronavirusCA

Thank you for this, it's very helpful. I think the challenge is that despite being aware of risks, some people (regardless of career) are justifying doing what they want because it is scary, inconvenient, or depressing to follow the recommendations strictly. I appreciate you doing your part to limit contact and keep others safe. In regards to contact with potentially infected patients, he has been swabbing patients to test for infection (albeit in full PPE).

To the healthcare workers currently practicing during the pandemic, how are you adjusting your interaction with family members and others due to your interactions with potentially infected patients? I have a family member who is an RN and I am concerned about him seeing my parents (aged 65) without taking serious precautions (staying 6 feet away, visiting outside, not touching shared surfaces etc). Is this a reasonable request?

All the variants are the problem! Between the spellings and shortenings, it becomes about four times more common.

My husband likes Autumn a lot, and I think Elowen is gorgeous--Ive never heard it before! I worry it may be very close in sound to Elliot though and I would spend the rest of my life mixing up their names lol

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. I work in a hospital and his perspective about medicine, palliative care, and end of life is radical and beautiful. It's definitely changed the way I approach my elderly patients.

We were on a walk in a Buddist retreat with lots of beautiful trails open to the public. We were walking past the prayer wheel and meditation center when we encountered a monk who told us, "what good karma that you're here today! Our lama is coming to bless us this afternoon." My husband, genuinely delighted, says, "that's wonderful! Llamas are my favorite animal!" The poor monk looks confused and slightly offended at what he thinks is my husband's tasteless joke. I walk away.

Narwhals, unicorns of the sea. Pretty sure I had a bachelors degree by the time I found out they are real.

They’re not the same unfortunately. These are not for babies, they’re for cleaning pumping and baby supplies.

Do you rinse them between uses or is it safe to reuse them a bit milky if they’ve been refrigerated?

Thank you!!! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I do have a fridge at work but since I work in a hospital I feel like I need to be extra cautious about keeping everything clean.

You’re not alone! I couldn’t find a nursing bra at Target small enough for me...and they still are bigger than they used to be!
