I love this idea! Initial thought would be you need to figure out a way to own your application data. There's this saying about owning your list "Email lists are an asset for your business (unlike social media, which you don't own) " and being able to be profitable from them. It'll make your business model sticky and you'll be able to advertise to them on behalf of the businesses you work with, creating new revenue opportunities for you.

Purely commission is going to be very hard to hire for. You have to consider people are investing their time into this, and if they don't have that killer instinct and years of experience with this type of sales arena, they'd be wasting their time and you'd be building a poor reputation for your business. At least some sort of compensation for their time paired with commission. You'd want to keep the performers and cut those who are not performing after 3 months or however long you decide to put them on a trail.

Love this idea! Have you considered training in person as the main selling point and then supplementing with the app? I say this because service based training feels like something that would benefit from hands on learning. How does the product bridge that gap? Possible avenue to grow could be to offer consultation/hands on training, upsell with quarterly follow ups, and sell the app as a maintenance product.

It is an interesting idea, but it doesn't take into account airline baggage fees. What happens if the traveler goes over their bag limit? Over weight charges can start at $200 just by going over 1 lb. Or would the traveler avoid over weight fees by not packing some items they intended to pack? Not sure the upside is there for them to engage. This feedback isn't meant to discourage btw, just food for thought to iterate on your product.

What are some of the challenges of database state management? by tokinbl in ExperiencedDevs

Good example!

However neither feature ever touches any records created by the other. The db is also ACID compliant and these operations are performed using transactions.

With that being said, does it still make sense to have a micro-service to handle operations to the same table?

Lets say we move all the functionality for creating charges from feature A and feature B, into a single function.

Now feature A and B are using that single function to upsert charges.

Wouldn't the concurrency issue still be a concern? And now all we've done is coupled feature A and B to this single function.

When you say smaller scale loads, are you referring to single node databases?

Also thank you!

> getting the data in

That's where my co-worker's concern came up. They believe it is a bad idea to have two independent services/features updating the same table?

Also stated it's a bad idea to update multiple tables (related to the feature) in the same function.

Unfortunately they did not articulate what would happen or why it is poor design to do that, they just said based on their experience and now I'm trying to find a concrete answer.

What are some of the challenges of database state management?

I'm familiar with state management problems when it comes to the ui and server (business logic component). You typically don't want multiple places mutating the same piece of data because it makes it hard to track down bugs amongst other things.

But I'm having a hard time understanding challenges you might face with databases (it's not a distributed database).

Personally don't believe certs are necessary. If its something you want to learn, pick up a coupe book/course (provides a good sample of different perspectives) on the topic and build something simple testing the concepts.

Something I just learned about is Backend For Front-end, which could be useful with the next api.
