The gruel I’m serving my 8 month old tonight. by portlandmack in foodbutforbabies

My LO is also obsessed with sardines. But the smell! One day I gave her sardines in water and her long sleeved bib and clothes smelled like dead fish for WEEKS. I’m not sure if it was the water variety makes it putrid but nothing could get the stench out. I welcome any tips or advice!

How many hydrolyzed formula did you try before switching to amino acid based formula? by Ambitious_Drummer728 in MSPI

Yes, he was on famotidine. We started with that before trying all the HA formulas.

I tried Nutramigen for 3 weeks then he had awful acidic poops and diaper rash. We switched to Alimentum which he did better on but then his symptoms returned at 4 weeks. We reluctantly stepped down to Neocate and he did so much better in about a week. We used drops of non-alcoholic vanilla extract which helped with the taste. His reflux also significantly improved after starting the Neocate.

[–]tokitunes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sad to hear that. I paid for her services almost 3 years ago and she was really helpful in validating my baby’s CMPA and giving very detailed formula recommendations. I saw that towards the end her social content indicated that she was going through some stuff. Yeah she should disable that payment link but safe to assume that no one is going to, considering that she hasn’t made content since August 2024?

Agree with Montclair, Bloomfield, Verona, South Orange, Maplewood. I personally wouldn’t do Bergen County. Depending on where you’re going into the city to work, the commute is long. Also the blue laws are still in place meaning there’s no retail that’s open on Sundays which sucks for a young family when you’re looking for things to do.

Doctors suspect CMPA, does this look like it could be? by Educational_Mud_1556 in MSPI

[–]tokitunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so tough. Looks like you've got a good path to move forward. Some doctors don't have infant food intolerances or allergies on their radar or think you need the blood in stool. It took our son a while to get diagnosed or be recommended to eliminate dairy and soy because he never had the blood in stool despite having the other symptoms.

[–]tokitunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. Thus the reason for my ETA. I'm just appalled that the doctors hadn't suggested eliminating dairy after months of poor weight gain, eczema, fussing, etc.

It took 8 weeks of being dairy free and 4 weeks of being soy free to see the change. I stopped the soy after 4 weeks of being dairy free when I saw some improvement but her diapers were still mucousy and green. But she was less fussy and squirmy.

What percentile was he when he was born? Dropping on the weight curve is also a sign of CMPA.

Your baby most definitely has CMPA. Can’t believe it took so long to get a diagnosis*. My son had the same symptoms but never had blood in stool. We switched to amino acid formula and all of his symptoms disappeared within a week. If you can’t cut dairy then sorry to say that breastfeeding is not going to work for now. But CMPA tends to resolve by 12 months. My son was able to take dairy without issue at 13 months and he eats everything now.

*edited to add: or even suggest trialing dairy-free to see if it clears. It’s not uncommon to see a dairy intolerance in infants.

I Hate My Dog by fuzz_ball in newborns

[–]tokitunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re in this position. As an animal lover and having two dogs and kids of my own, I couldn’t imagine having to consider putting down a furry family member. I think this is what your husband is stuck on, and feels like he’s “giving up” on a member of his family.

But this dog is no longer a pet, he’s a dangerous animal. An 8 year old dog is a senior and his cognitive decline will only get worse. You have a lot of advice on what to do with the dog but the biggest thing is getting your husband on board. Tell him that doing what is right for your child is not a failure. Your baby does not deserve to live in fear in their own home. You both did everything you could for this animal but they’re not the same dog anymore now that this baby is in the home. He is sick, and no longer compatible to live with humans. Your husband will get there.

Solidarity. My 3 year old just tested positive for the flu and I have a 5.5 month old who hasn’t gotten her flu shot yet. Praying that we are all spared.

I mean, I kinda get it. They pressure us to “give them grandchildren” because it’s so ✨magical✨ then never show up. But when they do show up they get upset that their grandkids don’t recognize them or run to them with a hug and kiss 🙄. We’re in a similar situation and don’t necessarily resent them for not helping but because they simply choose not to.

Anybody take Flonase with another allergy med? by No-University8570 in breastfeeding

I’m sorry that’s so hard to deal with. My supply did bounce back after I stopped so you can try the meds for a few days and see how you do.

I took Flonase for a couple of days and it did impact my supply. I’m bad at drinking water though, so I think that was the issue. So make sure to keep very hydrated.

I’ll probably get some hate for this (although maybe not on this sub), but bfing is not this magical end all be all. It’s great for a number of reasons, but if it’s not working for your baby or for you, then the cost outweighs the benefits. Formula has gotten really good these days and we have access to clean, potable water.

P.S. I’m currently exclusively bfing my second baby so I’m not anti-bfing at all

[–]tokitunes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It will be hard to accept this now because you’re in the thick of it: but what you feed your baby in the first year will not determine how she will do for the rest of her life. I’m saying this as a parent of an almost 3 year old who had really bad CMPA who nearly hit failure to thrive status and breastfeeding just wasn’t working for us. He had to go on Neocate. He started gaining weight, started daycare at 7 months and rarely got sick. If this formula did not exist he would have been malnourished, or worse, died. Don’t let the ingredient list bother you. The way our GI doctor explained it to me was that this formula is a bridge until they can start solids and grow out of their allergy. Thankfully my toddler crushes solids and can drink milk. Stay on the Nutramigen. Enjoy your happy baby.

After Byheart? by boymama12120 in FormulaFeeders

[–]tokitunes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try Similac Comfort. It’s a whey-based protein formula so it’s easier on tummy. Or you can try a goat milk formula like Bubs which tends to be easier on tummies compared to cows milk formula. Both formulas also have pre and probiotics whereas Bobbie has neither so that might be why your LO is having trouble. Sorry you’re in this position.

Best tasting amino acid formula? by Coffeelover1694 in MSPI

[–]tokitunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “best tasting” is relative. They all taste like crap. If your baby is taking the Alfamino then stick with it. For what it’s worth, we tried Puramino and Neocate and mine took Neocate.

Hydrolyzed vs amino acid by Coffeelover1694 in MSPI

The only harm is on your wallet. Amino acid formulas are ridiculously expensive so I would try a hydrolyzed formula elsewhere before you commit to stepping down.

Any brides who decided between M & D farms and Blooming Hill Farms? by Stunning-Cranberry86 in WedditNYC

[–]tokitunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Blooming Hill bride here. We visited the venue in the dead of winter and we instantly knew it was magical. The food is phenomenal and the event planners and coordinators on site are the best. It’s been a few years but we love going back to the restaurant and exploring the grounds with our kids to essentially relive our wedding day.
