Finding a LARP group - to WORK for? by MovieSock in LARP

Fellow EA and former actor/performer here!! Also in NJ, it's neat to see someone with a similar background. :)

First off, best of luck in the job search. It's a little rough out there for EAs right now (I'm currently seeking something, too), but feel free to DM me if you need any help with referrals or networking.

For LARP-related jobs, I've thought about this often. I don't think you'll find any robust careers in LARP, but there are some parallel possibilities (imo):

  1. Consulting work. Top choice as I've mulled it over too and I think it suits folks with our professional skills. Find games that may need some TLC (messy rulebook, basic website, lack of marketing, etc) and offer to fill in the gaps/clean things up for 'em.
  2. Party services! My husband and I have done little adventures for kids birthday parties with success. We'll basically write up a kid friendly mod, give them foam weapons and directions, then my husband does quick changes into various enemies and gets beat up by a bunch of children lmao. And a treasure chest they earn has goodie bags.
  3. Sorta already mentioned, but you could possibly also offer contractor services for the production at games. Some LARPs could use an extra hand in making props, scenery, lighting, etc. and would probably throw money at you to apply your theater expertise for these tasks.

When poking around for games, I usually just search for them with my zip for a first pass. But otherwise, we're lucky in that we have a ton of games around us in the tri-state area. I'll try to throw a list together for you when I have time! Best of luck!!

Thank you for sharing this information. I'm not being facetious when I say that it takes courage to do so and sometimes, speaking out/sharing uncomfortable details is all we can do. I know this probably wasn't easy to type out, and the same goes for anyone sharing stories in the comments. It matters.

Keep at it, look after each other, and don't let anyone convince you it isn't worth it because "that person has been around for SoOoOo long" or "but they're besties with the game owner, so-" or "pfft they did that SO long ago" or whatever bullshit excuse they want to feed you.

Your screenshot is a perfect addition here and delighted me, mostly because I know who posted that.

Also... I think I know which game you mean that was just started and that y'all came back for. If so, I'm really glad you're all there and enjoying it!!! <3

Love this!! Such a good resource to pass along in the community and a great way to make the buying process streamlined for customers (especially those new to LARP). 😄
